12,000 crew members still on cruise ships in US waters

All ships have to have a minimum number of crew on board at all times.  Basic maintenance and upkeep, even it is completely shut down.  To have a ship without anyone on board would be crazy.

Underway, and potential to arrive really aren't in US waters as of now. 22 ships in US waters vs 53 potential, eventually, possibly. Plus the CDC and CG don't even agree on the numper of Americans.  Not even close to each others numbers. 209 vs 53.🤔

But thanks for the article

Our best estimate of the number of seafarers on cruise ships still awaiting repatriation is approximately 5,000, based on a survey of our major cruise line members," Bari Golin-Blaugrund, senior director of strategic communications for CLIA, told USA TODAY Thursday.

It's sad so many crew are still stuck due to all the various country regulations, closings, etc.

On Saturday, August 8, we received an e-mail message from Celebrity's Captain's Club, quoting "X's" CEO as follows:

"I am proud to share that this month sees 100% of non-essential Celebrity crew members being repatriated and we are the first major cruise line to have all ships designated green by the CDC. The only crew remaining on board will be working to take care of our beautiful ships. In addition, we have designated Celebrity Edge as our 'Mother Ship.'  ... Edge comes into Miami every two weeks to pick up fresh foods, relief crew members, and other essentials and delivers them to the four Celebrity ships in the Bahamas area."

We do not know if the same status (as the above) is true of Royal Caribbean International ships -- or if, instead, her crews are not quite yet 100% repatriated.

This matches my figures and the USA Today numbers.  They mention 57 ships, with a minimum manning of about 150 per ship, means that 8500 crew are required, and therefore not "stranded".

Thanks for the wise words. Some just believe anything the media puts out.
