Dermotsgirl Posted March 14, 2021 #676 Share Posted March 14, 2021 I’ve had quite a good run on this virtual cruise. Cartagena is the first port that we have not visited in real life. Although we were booked to go in January 2022, but I’ve already moved the cruise. Cartagena looks like an interesting place, and much nicer than I imagined

The last call on our trip was a maritime museum and we were thinking that might be a bit dull but oh the air conditioning, just what we needed.

Maritime museums are our go to places in ports to shelter from the weather!
zap99 Posted March 14, 2021 #680 Share Posted March 14, 2021 We haven't been to Cartagena, so will probably just have a wander, or through the Panama canal. If its sunny we will sit on the top deck ,look at the sights and browse all your wonderful photos.
Aulanis Posted March 14, 2021 #681 Share Posted March 14, 2021 (edited) I was expecting more pics afrer the rush this am already thinned mine out to a reasonable number again down from around 150. We have been here 3 maybe 4 times cant find all the pics. First time I know we missed the "zoo" garden as the ships trip an in depth guided tour of the old town and a glimpse of the new which as one can see is a skyscraper city, left from the dock and returned to the dock without mention of the garden. Another time we went to the old town on our own and "discovered" the Gardens at the port. Next time we just did the gardens- it was great we were the only ship in that day and most went to the old town. Last time we went on a trip out to the mangroves which was interesting and relaxing and had a glimps of the old town - the gardens were heaving when we got back so just dashed through. I aways thought of Columbia as being a poor country so the sail in takes me by surprise. Edited March 14, 2021 by Aulanis

Izzywiz Posted March 15, 2021 #683 Share Posted March 15, 2021 Our last trip through the Panama Canal was in October 2019....it seems a lifetime ago. We had sailed through the night from Cartagena in a ferocious tropical thunder storm and arrived in to Colon, Panama, just as it began to clear. it was amazing to see the number of ships that were waiting to do the transit of the canal. The ship spent a day in Colon so we had the opportunity to see a little of the town....untouristy and a bit run-down....before going on an excursion to an Eco area of the canal. The pictures are a mixture from a similar trip in 2016 and the 2019 cruise.
Izzywiz Posted March 15, 2021 #684 Share Posted March 15, 2021 The Eco tour involved a 90 minute coach ride through the countryside to a canal side resort and then a boat trip along the canal which visited several small islands to see the wildlife.....very enjoyable...

Ardennais Posted March 15, 2021 #688 Share Posted March 15, 2021 I’ll be leaving this ‘trip’ after today but will continue to enjoy the great photos. Just a few of the Panama Canal from January 2020. We took a trip on this boat. And were rewarded with this!

bee-ess Posted March 15, 2021 #691 Share Posted March 15, 2021 I'll be staying on board for the next few days, I have some Panama Canal photos from 2002 but they are not digital and have only been into the Canal as far as the Lake and back out so may not be not getting off for a few days but looking forward to all the photos. We also are in Uncharted Territory. If we turn right and go up to Alaska we may be able to contribute. If not will just have to sit round the pool looking at all the folks pictures. Grumpycruiser60plus Posted March 15, 2021 #693 Share Posted March 15, 2021 Hello again, Have really been enjoying the the pics from last couple of places, ( have been recharging batts again) sadly i dont have have any pic from Grenada/ Curacao/ Columbia, although have been to these places back in Dec/ Jan 75- 76, I seem to recall i was probably on escort duty on tours ashore as i was working aboard HAL SS Statendam then. So to Panama canal our partial transit Jan 2018 Oceana, we arrived early morning to find us behind HAL Zuiderdam, going under the new bridge still being constructed, & also Arcadia transiting beside us on her way thru on her world cruise that year. Also following us was Norwegian Star & I think a rare sight, a LA Class US Nuclear Submarine..... like others have mentioned depending on which way the ship turns will depend on my further picture sharing.
Aulanis Posted March 15, 2021 #694 Share Posted March 15, 2021 Bye Ardennais - Hope you have a safe journey home. Again I have sifted through 200+ pics and in view of the excellent record already here I have abandoned the old lock passage and post only the new locks though the old locks can be seen now and again in the background. Besides which I need to get out and do a few jobs. The canal split These last few are of Fuerte Amador which many ships now use for Panama City.

Dermotsgirl Posted March 15, 2021 #696 Share Posted March 15, 2021 We did our transit from Pacific to Atlantic, as we had flown out to Acapulco and sailed back to Barbados on Oceana. These pictures were taken 11 years and 3 days ago, as this was my 50th birthday cruise
