Leaving ship to explore on your own

FYI to my fellow Viking Iceland cruise passengers. Be aware that unless you are part of an organized Viking Cruise excursion, you will not be allowed to leave the ship to shop or explore ports of call on your own.

I cannot speak for others but this was made very clear when we booked onto the Welcome Back Iceland cruise. It has been heavily discussed on numerous Boards previously.

Thank you for your reply. This is our 4th Viking cruise . We were unaware that going off the ship while in port was not allowable. Apparently others have been forewarned.

It’s included in the Covid Policies and Procedures you agreed-to in booking the cruise.  Relevant quote below.

 

SHORE EXCURSIONS. During the initial return to sailing, guests will only be allowed to participate in excursions or activities executed and escorted by Viking-approved tour operators who maintain Viking’s level of COVID-19 controls to help limit potential exposure. Throughout the duration of the shore excursion, guests will be asked to remain with their cruise companions. There may be additional restrictions during shore excursions depending on local conditions. Noncompliance by guest or members of guest’s traveling party with COVID-19 Policies and Procedures shall be grounds for refusal to re-board after going ashore.

Good response!  It's a tough crowd.  As for everyone knowing, our friends that are traveling with us on a separate reservation were clueless.  She bought Rick Steves book and had planned her independent 

travels.  This bubble policy really becomes an issue if many cannot book the ship's excursions--which

may be a reality based on the way things are proceeding with Viking.
