Thank you fallen, standing and still rolling and the families who had your 6, the brothers who had your back and to all those who mourn, stand fast.

My Dad, one of the greatest generation:  This was taken at the Hula Bowl 1947

I came across this field of flags, in Indiana, a few years ago on one of my car tours. I turned around, went back to stop and reflect.

Thank-you to all that served.

Your Dad was an old swabbie, much respect. Was he stationed at Barbers point?

I just spotted it out of the corner of my eye in Auburn as I drove through in the early morning.  My understanding is that it was a temporary display.

I’m Canadian and it hit hard. Doesn’t matter where you live.  Each flag represented a person who passed and each flag had a name of a lost life. Both my grandfathers served in WW2 and one in WW1 as well.  One for Germany and one for Canada. I was fortunate enough to meet the one a few times in Germany, and the other passed before I was born. Both men who lived through too much, to which I will never really know about.

As I walked through I picked up one tag that had fallen to the ground.  I tucked it under the edge their memorial marker in respect. It was the most touching/important/symbolic thing I came across in a weeks worth of back road travel, from Charlottesville North Carolina to Norwalk Ohio.

Yep, a squid and proud of it.  He enlisted at 17 so he could serve in the war, lied about his age and they sent him to Pearl, where he and Mom were married at Ford Island, the sub base.  Machinist Mate and a Submariner.  His boat was the USS Besugo.  That game was the first Hula Bowl ever.

Bet you cried like a baby, we shed a few tears yesterday and the weekend, didn't do anything but cook burgers and watch all the hoopla on TV along with all the great WWII movies, my fave...The Best Years of our Lives.  Both of us are crybabies, no matter when, we weep when they play the anthem and when they bring out the bagpipes, Scottish ancestry😪

My Paternal Grandfather was in The Great War, went to Russia, an infantryman.  Hubs Dad also Army in Viet Nam.  Todds brother Chris -Special Forces; 4 tours Afghanistan and earned the Silver Star.  All of both our families are heavily military, all branches except Marines and the Coast Guard.  DD wanted that branch but afraid she couldn't pass their tests, they are one of the hardest to get into, so she went Air Force like her Dad, she has already surpassed him. LOL  Now Staff Sgt servicing F-22s.  She also was stationed in Hawaii, married a native and they are actually PCSing as we speak back to the mainland in Phoenix Air base.  My Grandson is in Korea right now, he loads the big C5s.

Have you ever made it to Normandy?

Very moving. Wouldn't mind going back.

Yes.  Tauck river cruises moved our itinerary around so we toured Normandy and the American Cemetery on Memorial Day. Extremely moving. ❤️🇺🇸❤️
