We are going to be on the Pride next week- which areas should I avoid. Last year on the Valor the Cigar Bar was horrible as was the sports bar....there are about 20 of us- we are all non-smokers and have two people that are "allergic" to it as well....

I wish Carnival still had the Paradise as a smoke free boat, that in and of itself made the cruise fantastic!

Never been on the Pride, but I'd think the cigar bars and the sports bars on most of the ships would be obvious places to avoid. Also might not want to go to the casino with your allergic friends. Maybe go check it out ahead of them to see how bad it is. Really, though there are fewer and fewer indoor public areas of the ships that allow smoking. You shouldn't have too big of a problem finding somewhere to go where you are comfortable.

hi again. I think you will be pleased with the Pride. We were on the Spirit this past July and the lay out is the same. I did not have any problems at all. Carnival had the designated smoking areas and everyone was very respectful.

The Pride does have the cigar bar and if you choose to "line up" for dinner, you will be standing in the cigar bar. But we solved that problem by waiting on the stairs and did not have a problem.

Again, have a great time and tell the karaoke host he/she has an officially addicted karaoke person on the way in March!!!

You can bet the Cigar Lounge and Sports Lounge will always be full of smokers - so just avoid them.

I think Carnival does a good job of having many non-smoking areas. They've changed some former smoking areas to non-smoking, I've noticed on my last couple of cruises.

I guess you know that one side of the Lido Deck is smoking, and the other non, right? I would think it would be fairly easy to avoid the smokers.

I just *GOTTA* ask...

*WHY* Foxtrot Tango Lima Oscar Golf, would a non-smoker even remotely consider venturing inside someplace known as the "cigar bar"?

We were on the Glory in 2004. Maybe we didn't know our way around the ship well enough but we went through the Cigar Bar to get back and forth from our cabin to our dining room. For some reason, there were times that certain doors were closed off also which meant that we would have to find another way back and forth. Our cabin was forward and our dining room was the Golden Dining Room in the aft of the ship. The Cigar Bar was also where they showed the movies though we didn't go to any of them.

Also, in 2005, we wanted to attend the afternoon tea which we had missed during our Glory cruise. We were surprised to find that it was in the Cigar Bar. We didn't stay long.

This whole question makes me think the the OP is setting up the cruise experience for failure. If I was allergic to smoke, I would have to think twice about going on cruises and about visiting Vegas.

Ships have smoke... including the cabin next to you. It's a crap shoot.

I don't smoke... and don't like smoke... but I would never complain about smoke if I attend a smoking facility. It's akin to being against pornogrphy and thumbing thru the pages of a dirty magazine... all the while complaining how disgusting the photos are.

Having been on the Pride and was a recently new non-smoker. I found it very easy to deal. Do not go to dinner 15 minutes before the doors open. Wait so that you either arrive when the doors are opening or 5 minutes there after.

The Lido deck has one side for smokers and the other for non. This can easily be seen by the ashtrays.

Casino of course has smokers. They have easily constructed the ship so that if you need to go through the casino to get anywhere you can easily take the elevator or stairs and go above/around the casino.

I didn't know how I would fair as I had been a smoker for 25 years and had only been a non-smoker for 10 months. I was fine and can honestly say I didn't run into anyone being rude about their smoke.

To the person who had a misserable time with the balcony. Did you kindly (not rudely) tell (or leave a note in the mailbox next to their door) the people next door? Believe it or not they propably thought because their balcony is private they didn't think that the smoke was interferring with anyone.

someone asked...

yes i know why would you go somewhere with smoke if it bothers you so much...carnival doesn't offer the smoke free paradise anymore? ....and as far as the cigar bar I LOVE LOVE LOVE jazz and blues music and it is always a shame i have to miss out on that....i know you can't have your cake and eat it too..but i just hate the fact that if i want to listen to good music i have to take a shower afterwards and hang my clothes on the balcony to air out! hahahaha!

thanks for all your input i will share the details with my "allergic" travelers

The Paradise ceased being smoke-free when the moved it over to California for the Baja run (replacing the Ecstacy). It wasn't doing real well for Carnival. While there is definitely a market for those who want a smoke-free cruise, it isn't large enough to devote a ship to it.

You might want to consider Royal Caribbean in the future. Mrs. Yogimax and I are both sensitive to cigarette smoke and have found that RCL does a slightly better job than CCL. On our last cruise on the Celebration, the casino reeked of smoke. And yes, when I pointed that out on this board, I was told "If you don't like it, don't go." Well, that argument doesn't fly. Non-smokers pay the same for their crusies as smokers and yet we are told to avoid certain areas of the ship that would bring us enjoyment. Hmm. Take comfort in the fact that the historical trend is on our side and ultimately cruise ships will go the same way as airlines - it's just a matter of time.

I don't believe I have ever seen an ashtray or cigarette up on the funnel deck. The ventilation is great up there, and lots of passengers enjoy the view.

Did someone just work in a plug for the funnel (topless) deck????;) :D

LMAO!!!! too funny!!

Gotta disagree with you on that one, Yogi. I don't see that ever happening.

Reason? Flights are for relatively short periods of time, whereas on a ship, you're there for several days. Smokers would just quit cruising.

I would have to agree..

No way will they ever go smoke free. Most of these ships are from other countries that aren't as anti-smoking as the U.S. Although, the majority of people on these are Americans, I can't see them doing it.

Don't get me wrong, I love a cigar from time to time, but I do understand the people who are subjected to it whether they like it or not. I am not supporting those who want a non-smoke cigar bar.. I mean really.......... But they should have smoking floors like hotels so that if you are allergic or don't like smoking you are not subjected to it from the person in a balcony next to you..

You couldn't be more correct, Cotton. Unfortunately, the person that you were replying to refuses to acknowledge that, although a noble attempt, the Paradise ultimately was grand failure. Smokers stop cruising...cruise lines go belly up. If non-smokers can't keep one ship full, how are they going to keep 20 full? Won’t happen.
