ANY CURRENT VISITS TO SAN JUAN?

That's because San Juan implemented a Covid testing requirement for cruise ship visits due to the Omicron.  It's inevitable San Juan's testing requirement will disappear but there isn't a solid date announced yet.  There's a variety of reasons why cruises avoid ports requiring on board testing yet to oversimply it, its far easier for the cruise lines to change the port to one that doesn't require on board testing than it is to setup on board testing.

We docked in San Juan on February 15, 2022. There was a large Carnival ship, a Holland America ship, and a couple of others in port on that date.

As we understand it, you can take a cruise from San Juan but there are no day visits or port stops at this time

We just stopped in San Juan last month while aboard Anthem of the Seas.
Not much has changed from

previous stops. We could walk around ourselves or book excursions.

Thanks for sharing, I take it you didn't have an on board covid test?  Perhaps PR dropped the testing requirement.

They did. As of February 2. No test required if one is vaccinated.

Can you find that in writing?  I see an article that says this was pending - but not confirmed yet?  Any tips on where this information confirming that this requirement has changed (no testing if providing proof of vaccination)?

As mentioned right now the Millennium does not appear on San Juan port schedule (yet our itinerary has not officially changed) but can be found on that date docking in St. Thomas!!

Of course. Puerto Rico's own tourism site has it. https://www.discoverpuertorico.com/info/travel-guidelines

Thanks!

Cruise Operations

Port of Calls (Transit Call/Cruise Port Visit):

  • For ships to be permitted entry to Puerto Rico, all guests 12 years of age or older must be fully vaccinated with an FDA or WHO vaccine. Unvaccinated passengers cannot disembark in Puerto Rico except for children under 12 years of age.
  • Please check with cruise operators for their most up-to-date COVID protocols and regulations, as many operators require proof of vaccination prior to boarding and have specific testing requirements.

But is there any reason San Juan, Puerto Rico is NOT mentioned at all on the Celebrity website in regard to visitors/test - vaccination requirements?  I find this very confusing???

All vaccinated guests may go ashore on their own in ports where it's permitted.

Please be aware that as destination conditions change, you may be required to go ashore on a shore excursion provided by Celebrity Cruises. This will help to keep you safe and healthy for the rest of your vacation.

Unvaccinated guests and families with unvaccinated children may only go ashore on a shore excursion provided by Celebrity Cruises.

Shore excursion guidance is listed below. We will continue to monitor and update as any changes to local requirements occur.

Excursions provided by Celebrity Cruises are required in:

  • Bridgetown, Barbados
  • Castries, St. Lucia
  • Falmouth, Jamaica
  • Kingstown, St. Vincent
  • Roseau, Dominica

In St Lucia, Barbados, and Dominica, fully vaccinated guests may also choose to visit the enclosed port area to enjoy the shops and in that area can also purchase an approved independent tour provided by the local government. Please note that these tours are unaffiliated with Celebrity.

Vaccinated guests can explore the destination on their own in the ports below. However, we highly recommend you choose shore excursions with Celebrity Cruises that follow the same health protocols we have on board:

  • Basseterre, St. Kitts & Nevis
  • Belize City, Belize
  • Bimini, Bahamas
  • Cartagena, Colombia
  • Colon, Panama
  • Costa Maya, Mexico
  • Cozumel, Mexico
  • Key West, USA
  • Kralendijk, Bonaire
  • Nassau, Bahamas
  • Oranjestad, Aruba
  • Philipsburg, St. Maarten*
  • Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
  • Roatan, Honduras
  • St. Croix, USVI
  • St. George’s, Grenada
  • St. John’s, Antigua
  • St. Thomas, USVI
  • Tortola, BVI
  • Willemstad, Curacao

While in Aruba and Grenada, the use of masks is required while indoors, except for while eating and drinking.

*The St. Maarten government requires all unvaccinated guests age 10 and older, be tested 2 days prior to disembarking and visiting St. Maarten. Test will be provided onboard.

The local health authorities in St. Thomas and St. Croix have recommended that all guests, including fully vaccinated persons, wear a face mask while ashore and particularly while indoors.

Thanks for the info - so wondering why our itinerary has not been officially changed,  and why this is not listed on their webpage?  No one on the cruise has so far been notified - wondering if it's a day at sea or some other port?  Who can I contact to find out?  (as if...LOL)

If you go to Cruise Mapper Look under ships and find Celebrity Apex  or the ship you are sailing on and the departure date. It will show you where your ship is actually cruising to. All ships cruising in US and leaving from ports other than San Juan are not stopping there. San Juan Covid restrictions require negative tests  within 2 days  to stop there. Once you board the ship they will tell everyone. Nassau is taking the place of San Juan in most cases.

Thanks for the info - according to Cruisemapper - and as mentioned before - looks like we are not stopping in San Juan as indicated, but will be porting in St. Thomas on that date - just wish Celebrity would make it 'official' and change the itinerary if that is in fact what is happening!

The cruise  company is operating with changes almost every week with Covid and the Islands we are going to or trying  to visit. They  feels it will be less problems if they wait and tell us on the ship.

Curious if you read the info reference at Travel Guidelines | Discover Puerto Rico in an earlier post. It would appear the negative test requirement did actually go away as discussed. And other posters are saying they did in fact stop there.

Cruisemapper differs for the cruise I'm on next week and says we don't stop there after all. But I don't really know why. Actually, we were going to stay on the ship anyway, but looked forward to the ship being less full during that day.

Good Afternoon.  I looked it up online a couple of days ago - Constellation, not Millennium.

At first I didn't find the Connie...

Then I found this site, which lists port stops:

https://cruisedig.com/ports/san-juan-puerto-rico

Hope this helps.

Thanks - I now see Millennium docking in San Juan on the 24th (and not in St. Thomas) and the Constellation in St. Thomas on the 24th (not sure of their actual itinerary so don't know if this is a change or not?)  - who knows what will happen LOL - don't really care at this point as I love both ports...  it shall be a good surprise! 🙂

If memory serves me correctly - we'll be docking in San Juan on the 21st...

And then head back North 🙂

According to that website https://cruisedig.com/ports/san-juan-puerto-rico

the Constellation will dock in San Juan on March 21 and the Millenium on March 24. Seems we have different people on different ships on this thread.

Yes - we were talking to each other regarding our different sailings 🙂
