Staff Evaluations on Survey

I would think it would be because you might not have internet access - the survey typically arrives in my inbox the afternoon I get off the ship.

When we didn't have the C&A internet minutes/hours I asked GS about that on one of our B2B cruises and they gave me one hour of internet minutes to take the PCS while on the second leg. Did the PCS on TAD.

Nice!  I'll have to remember that!

Keep in mind a lot of ships are short staffed right now, which has been posted in countless reviews on this site. If you want to help keep ships short staffed, just answer yes to this question.

So if the correct answer is yes then you should lie.

Eddie, answer it honestly.

I will readily admit, we ignored the survey when we first started cruising.

Over the years, we learned how important the survey was to crew members.

We confirmed some of the information after doing surveys on b2b or b3b...crew members we recognized by name actually came up to us and thanked us on the subsequent sailings.

Yes, crew members that we recognized by name on the survey said they:

* Received extra hours (not day) off,

* Received free meals at specialty restaurants,

* Waiters being assigned to better tables,

* Bartenders getting assigned to better bars,

* Getting promotions.

We now take the time to recognize all outstanding crew members...even those often overlooked...working tirelessly and quietly...everyday. For example...

* That crew member who wipes and cleans every slot machine in the casino,

* The crew members who wipes the stair rails, the one who keeps the restrooms clean,

* The gardeners that keep the thousands of plants at Central Park beautiful,

* The crew member we watched perfectly clean the windows inside the Solarium.

Happy sailing.

How do the crew members that thanked you know it was you that mentioned them?

Good question - I have heard they get extra time off, plus some other benefits.  Perhaps someone knows more information.

I wouldn’t advocate lying, but you should know if you answer yes you are screwing over crew members (which may be appropriate).

A crew member does something they know they should not and noting that on an evaluation is considered "screwing them over".... interesting perspective. I guess we better just mark everything a 10 and let RCI know that everything is perfect so no crew gets held accountable and nothing improves.

if you read my entire comment I said it might be appropriate. If I get bad service, which has only happened once in 44 cruises, I simply didn’t fill out the survey. I know how serious management views these surveys and personally I don’t want to contribute to someone getting fired.

I always answer the questions honestly. I find it hard to believe that RCI will demote, or cut the salary, or otherwise "screw over" an employee because of how I answer a question. Maybe if 10, or 100 (pick a number) passengers report bad service from a particular employee, then that employee should be addressed. But if one person leaves a negative comment, it shouldn't have any effect. People have bad days. Some people are just plain miserable and will leave negative comments no matter what. I have never left a bad comment for any of the crew, but I have mentioned a few by name that have gone above and beyond.

I fill out all surveys honestly for cruises or any industry.  If an individual employee is truly providing bad service where I would score them below 70%,  I will have already informed management.  I don't do this to "get back at" that person or to seek any concession, but mainly because I paid for a level of service I did not receive and I beleive management wants to know that.  I've managed several small businesses and divisions of large publicly-traded companies.  In all cases, I wanted to know if any of my employees were not providing excellent service to my customers.  Those employees were counseled and trained to do better.  If they didn't, then they needed to seek jobs better suited to their skills and personalities.
