Hope everyone is enjoying the cruise. We are on the May 14th northbound trip. Could someone let us known if the tv screens (Deluxe balcony cabin but generally expect most cabins are similar ) have external HDMI connectors? I prefer to look at my pix/ videos on a bigger screen than my phone before I delete all the bad ones. Thanks and enjoy!

Not able to get to back of TV to see

We are on this cruise.  I am impressed with the crew, they are all happy to be back and doing a great job.  The only complaint I have is the internet.  The speed is pathetic and it's very frustrating.  I can't even open a pdf on an email.  I cannot send any pictures on gmail but what works great is What's App.  So if you are going on this ship, make sure you've got it because everything else is slow!  Princess needs to fix this.  I paid for internet that I can't get.  Not happy at all!  So much for checking work emails or answering them!!!!!  A few go through, others just sit in my outbox.  VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!

Yes.  It’s on the left hand side by the magic Medallion box.  You’ll need dainty fingers.  Once your HDMI cable is plugged in, tune to the Bridge Cam or other live channel.  Reach under the dead-center front of the TV, hit the button you’ll feel.  A menu will pop up.  Select HDMI. Voila.

Are all 3 dining rooms open? Are both Crown and Sabatini's open? I don't remember seeing if anyone has posted how many are on your cruise so wondering if everything is open.

Cruising into  Glacier  Bay today.  Weather is sunshine.   We are viewing from stateroom.  We can hear the rangers  from the top deck, unfortunately we can not hear from room.  Yes TV is on and turned to bridge cam.  Multiple  complaints to correct persons have not fixed the problem.   Yesterday in Hubbard Glacier  we had music on while  naturalist was trying to talk.

That's the way the technology is right now. The old system used geosynchronous (GEO) satellites that orbit at the same speed the earth rotates - they seem to be at the same point in the sky all the time. The problem is that they are very far away, something like 22,500 miles up, and that distance makes latency a problem as well as signal strength. Works best at lower latitudes but is serviceable up north. GEO satellites also use spot-beams where their performance is better in areas where the population density is higher. The new system adds mid-earth-orbit (MEO) satellites that orbit closer to the earth and from our point-of-view, move across the sky. The idea with MEO is that there are enough of them that when one leaves your view, another arrives so you have coverage. Unfortunately the MEO satellites have a low inclination (they don't orbit the higher latitudes) so they really don't cover the northern and southern parts of the globe very well. Hopefully Elon Musk's Starlink system (tens of thousands of low-earth-orbit satellites with full global coverage) will eventually solve all these issues.

Two nights ago (leaving Skagway) after the 930 showtime you could smell whatever it was someone was smoking in the casino from the open area outside the theaters.

I took a peek over the railing and couldn’t see what or where they were smoking. But around the casino yes you can definitely smell the smokers.

the medallion app is pretty terrible more so for Samsung Android Users (S22/Note20/S9) than other android users and especially IOS users. Most of the stuff (journey view) is broken but at least I can reliably find my “shipmates” without it crashing.

regarding Sitka, it’s a nice little town we got out before ovation was docked but coming back (2ish) the line went around the cultural building, out to that road in front of the building and down towards the bridge)

Eventually they conscripted the shuttle buses for the private tours and school buses to get everyone back.

If you have issues with Journey View, try logging off and back on. Click on your photo top left, then select log off. You can also get into the old system (pre medallion) Ocean Concierge  by navigating to royal.princess.com  It works great.

I sure am enjoying this live from!!!  We're cruising on the Grand in just over two weeks, and following this thread is doing wonders for my excitement level!  Like most, we're a bit nervous about covid negatively impacting our cruise, but you are making it seem almost like the good old days 🙂

I was also a little concerned about how to carry  around my medallion since I often have outfits without pockets, but then I found this wonderful little multi-use phone wallet, and I think my problems are solved!  It has a cross body strap, or can be interchanged with a wristlet strap, has a little zippered pouch which I think will be perfect for the medallion, and of course, it holds my phone too 🙂  It was available in a variety of colours, but I really liked this rose gold one to match my pink iphone!  Hubby ALWAYS has pockets, so I'll make him carry my lipstick lol!

Positive things I am grateful for onboard today: incredible weather, being so fortunate to have warm sunshine in Glacier Bay, wonderful hot water supply and great water pressure for my shower this morning, great new friends we have made on the week we have been cruising, still having 5 days more to cruise and most of all, grateful to celebrate being married 41 years today to the best man I have ever known.

What day was the scrambled egg Chef’s special?  That’s the only day I want to eat in the dining room!  😋

Sabatini’s is CLOSED for dinner?  We have reservations during our May 25th cruise on Grand Princess so hope there won’t be any issues.

Sabatini's is only closed for dinner on this cruise.   Technically issues.  Seams like a lot of technical issues on this cruise.  We are just calling it the shakedown cruise.   The cruise will have most of the issues  fix by next cruise.  At least I hope so.

Happy Anniversary and thank you for posting so much about this cruise. We board the Royal on May 21 after a 5-day land tour. We'll be celebrating our 42nd anniversary! So thankful to be back to cruising!
