Mariner status earning

I was reading the ways to earn Mariner points and saw the following:

 

     ONBOARD SPENDING BONUS:
     1 bonus credit will be granted for every $300 spent in onboard purchases.

 

Do shore excursions that were paid for before the cruise count towards this?  Or is it ONLY purchases made after the cruise sets sail?

No, your pre-booked excursions count on your spending points.

Yes - anything pre-booked counts. Including items inlcuded in fare, such as HIA.

Your pre purchased shore excursions will count towards earning Mariner points.

And they tend to round up the points within reason, i.e. 258 point becomes 300 points.

well, this is all great news - those Alaska excursions are expensive!

@ewildcat7 Do note that you can only earn one bonus day for every actual day of your cruise. 

 

By staying in a suite bought at rack rate (not an upsell or free upgrade) also doubles the daily days.

But.....a solo paying double fare for their room does not get double points (except suites)......it still ticks me off on that policy!!

Couples get points for each but neither gets double.   I think it is fair but in your case I could see perhaps they could treat the single supplement as onboard spending.  So if you buy a $500 cruise and had to pay $1000,  the additional $500 would be treated just as if you had spent $500 onboard .  That might be a good reward

I have been complaining to HAL about that for many years.  There are quite a few other lines that do award double loyalty points for us solos -- one of them being Princess (a CCL line)!  The only response that I have ever received was a vague sort of "we're thinking about it" reply.

That would at least be something to help!
