Covid quarantine on the Apex

I was very surprised when they said I would be on Deck 3 instead of a balcony.   It added to my shock and sadness.  Based on others reports, I thought I would be on Deck 6.  I asked about a cabin with the possibility of fresh air.  They said that if I had a balcony, the air flow from it would compromise the health of others!!  Unbelievable.  I cried when they took me down the service elevators, knowing that the next 10 days would be difficult.  When my hubby tested positive with 6 days left in the cruise, we hoped we could be together on the Celebrity Suite that he was asked to vacate, but no dice.  No one, obviously, would be occupying the suite and we were on track to disembark as scheduled.

This is what gives me pause. We’re in a PS on the Millie next month, which is pretty isolated given it’s aft location. Should something bad happen I don’t want to move from a PS to an OV cabin!

To be taken from a Celebrity Suite to an OV on Deck 3 is unacceptable.  I can not imagine having no fresh air for 8 days and counting.  I feel bad for you and dh.  It is very gracious for you to say Celebrity is doing all they can........

I would have a problem with this also and find it unacceptable with the current covid symptoms for fully vaccinated persons. I think I would also say "thanks but no thanks" to moving from a balcony to an OV. If they for some reason insisted on dropping me off at the next port...so be it better than being cooped up with no fresh air.

The quarantine concierge checked on me by phone every day, but I never saw medical after being placed in quarantine.

So much for the lame excuse of keeping pax near Medical to keep it convenient for them to perform regular wellness checks.  Wonder when they decided to forego those?

Physically, my husband and I are both doing well.  I self reported because I had a bit of a cough, a headache and malaise.  Later, I developed a low grade fever and was very fatigued .  The quarantine concierge checked on me by phone every day, but I never saw medical after being placed in quarantine.  If I would have needed meds, I could have called and they would have been delivered. M I had my own thermometer and Tylenol which I brought from home.  I did get some cough drops.

Take your Tylenol and take a nap in your cabin,  got it.

This is the greatest risk on your cruise from COVID.  Not likely that you will get very sick if you are infected.  But you will be isolated.

Being moved to an isolation deck is a choice. You can have covid and still behave responsibly without presenting to medical.

But that is problem people do not behave responsible

on the Apex TA , people tested themselves, and were positive, but still walked around the ship unmasked

People aren't even bothering to cover their coughs.  No, people won't behave responsibly. And that's why there is so much Covid aboard.

This is one of the most disturbing things I've read in any of the isolation threads.   If a guest is placed in isolation because of a medical issue, then medical staff should be checking on them daily.  At the very least, with covid, there should be daily temperature and pulse-ox checks.

@quicklabs -- you mentioned you have your own thermometer.  Does medical even know that?  (Even if they do, it's still no excuse for medical not checking up on guests.)

I hope you and your DH are feeling better!

We were going forth and back on finalizing a booking for a November 2022 Transatlantic.

This post now helped to make up our minds.  Whereas we cruised this Spring in the Mediterranean, accepting the risk of catching Covid and assuming that we then could isolate in our sunset veranda, this post and others have made it clear that the chances are much bigger that we would be moved and stuck in an OV cabin.  And we are not going to risk this on a 14 day TA.

By-the-way we did not get it on board last time but tested positive 3 days after embarking.  But with the new variants have the same chance of getting it again.

Indeed, early on they weren't doing this at all, and after some pretty hot words back to corporate about "standard of care", they got with the program.  Until this report, we had thought that the practice was still ongoing and standard aboard all ships.

Further, it was once said that one of the reasons for 'grouping' quarantined pax in poor accommodations was to facilitate access by Medical to a group in a more convenient (closer and more consolidated) area.  If they've truly discontinued regular wellness checks, I guess THAT explanation isn't holding any water these days.

Clearly a lot of people are doing this on cruise ships.  Not presenting themselves to Medical.  That is obvious.

You are both correct. And it makes presenting to medical seem like such a fool's errand when so many others never will. You can't control what others do, you can only control your own actions. Simply put, I know that I can isolate responsibly without being forced to.

We were on the Iceland Ireland Cruise on the Apex with a sailing date of June 7,2022.  I tested positive on the 8th day of the cruise and we (my wife elected to go with me) were whisked away to Deck 3 from our Sky Suite. We were at sea on that day. After looking around and spending about 15 minutes in that small room with a window but no balcony and cleaning supplies on a table (which were there because no one from the crew was going to clean the room besides us) we decided we did not want to spend the next 5 days in quarantine until the shipped docked in Amsterdam.  We got off the ship in the next port which was Belfast. We stayed there a few days and went home.

We just cancelled a transatlantic cruise on the Apex which sails Oct 29,2022 from Rome to Ft. Lauderdale. This cruise includes 6 straight days at sea and we cannot imagine being quarantined during the crossing with no way to get off the ship.

I am canceling the cruises we had booked for winter.   We have a Royal Suite booked for the Equinox that I was so looking forward to, but I can't take the chance of this happening again.

This is heartbreaking - I am so sorry you are dealing with this, especially will a very mild illness

I am sure they decided to forego this when they realized they are of no benefit. The part they forgot to implement is allowing pax to stay in their cabins.  Thank God we cancelled our Aug 1 2022 Apex cruise.

Thank you for your kind understanding and expressions of sympathy.  They never even asked about my husband whose medical history could have resulted in a very bad outcome.   Once you are in isolation, you are a persona non grata.

I will say that I feel like a perfect idiot for self identifying.

Don't beat yourself up.  Look at it as you are doing a service to others, not only will most bring tests and medications, but I assume a good portion will not self-report based on your experience and the experience of others.  IMO, it serves Celebrity right for their ridiculous 'policies' and lack of consistency.

I am a retired Air Force officer.   The concepts of integrity and service to others above self  were drummed into me every day of my 24 year long career.  Well, in the civilian world, that just made me and my husband two very  big saps.

You're not a sap. hopefully most people in the world are honest.

You had no way of knowing in advance that Celebrity would treat you so badly..

I'm not on Twitter or Facebook but I hear that posting on there gets results because Celebrity monitors them and cares about their image. If someone reading this thread could post about  quicklabs terrible treatment maybe she could get some relief (as in getting moved back to her now empty suite)

Maybe on mature reflection you should have made a real fuss about having to leave your suite…..it must have been horrendous for you being escorted down to deck 3 and left in isolation particularly when you were not that ill. Cruel come to mind. Celebrity needs to rethink its policy and lack of consistency……

We disembark tomorrow.  I am putting this in the rear view window.  I am thankful we are well, and I will chalk this up to lesson learned.  I will say that during this ordeal, my husband and I were the recipients of a great kindness from one crew member in particular, who took it upon herself to care for us as if we were her own family members.

What have they told you about disembarking? One in our party has been in isolation others all negative but they havent given much info about whats next? A few positive passengers have said they would just board the plane and go home but how?? Id assume C is reporting who is positive to authorities so they can complete their isolation. We are scrambling to figure this ourselves for those affected.
