We will be on Insignia for our first cruise with Oceania for 48 days in Jan/Feb 2023.  You mentioned fitness classes.  Do you recall what types of classes they offered?  Anything like zumba or any type of aerobics?  Do they charge a fee for the classes?  Thanks for any information that you can provide!

I only participated in the “morning stretch” class.  I know they followed that with some kind of yoga.  There was no charge for those.

I am not sure if they offered zumba or pilates…maybe someone else can answer?

Late September, 2018 on an NCL Alaska cruise from Seattle we stood at the aft bar raising a celebratory first drink listening to loud cheers from the Seahawk Stadium. Hopeful that football could be available, especially college games, we wandered the ship and found a sports bar. Two east coast NFL teams playing on the screen on Sunday afternoon, (why not the Seahawks?!) not another football game the next 10 days. Loved the sports bar on the ship, wish that cruise ships could show more than European soccer…

Carnival, Celebrity may have belly flop contests, horse racing by the pool, loud music all day long by the pool, Newly wed games. I avoid them like the plague, but it  may be wonderful for those who think they are too  young for Trivia and name that tune.

Whereever did you get the idea you could put Celebrity in the same class as Carnival???  no "belly flop contests, horse racing by the pool" but yes the music can be loud and they do have a newly-wed game later in the evening, which is really a lot of fun for everyone except the newly-weds...LOL.

Because after 50 cruises with Celebrity, I have witnessed all of them.  Of course what one may think is low class and very crude,  someone else will say "it is a lot of fun".

To each his own. But you asked, I answered.

Well...you are entitled to your OPINION, however, my question was rhetoric....but you may be right with some of this....I've witnessed a horse race by the pool about 25 YEARS AGO.  So your 50 cruises may take in some of this.  Currently, and I'd say within the last 10-20 years, Celebrity has become somewhat less 'cruiser participant' regarding pool games except for the crew/cruiser pool volley-ball.  I'm up there with your number of cruises as well, over almost all their ships, spending most of my day on the pool deck so have observed changes.  BTW, we did buy a horse that long ago and it won....it WAS fun.  And your rude comment re 'low class and crude' insults a great many X cruisers who enjoy or participated in the NW and other games.

Yes I am sure it insults them just as witnessing it on the ship insulted me.

Things have changed since they introduced the class system, those in Suites and those in "steerage". I remember being on the ship when they were building a wall in the dining room to separate the two. When the food for suites and those for the rest became inedible for us, that was the end of Celebrity for us. If I want to pay Suite prices I might as well sail O and not have the class division thrown in my face.

Oh and talk about rude, dont get me started on what we experienced with parents bringing  kids on Celeb over the years. Sure dont miss that.

You surely don't have a happy outlook in some respects....It's great you found the cruise line which complements your dining and entertainment requirements. :classic_wink:

If you were disappointed by lack of games you like on NCL you would REALLY be disappointed with sports on Oceania's TVs. With possible exception of Super Bowl or World Cup finals... really special events, Oceania does not offer sports on TV that I have ever seen. Also, ESPN channels are not offered on Oceania, as they are on larger mass market cruise lines.

We have given up on any cruise line embracing sports. Except one make up cancelled-covid-cruise this fall and/or a HAL or NCL west coast spectacular itinerary that eliminates air travel, we are 100% Oceania fans.

Oceania did an excellent job carrying the Winter Olympics a few years back. That’s only once every four years though.

Wow, are you sure it was Oceania?  I was on the Riviera during the Winter Olympics and nothing was available. It was frustrating. I distinctly remember I was watching CNBC one morning in the Concierge lounge and they switched to a report from the Olympics..the screen went blank and the words "not authorized" or something like that appeared on the screen.

Yep, on the Nautica for the 2018 Winter Olympics. Perhaps the deal was the cruise was Hong Kong - Bangkok and the Olympics were held in S.Korea. We were getting the games live.

I was aboard the Insignia during the Superbowl in 2019.  They had a great 'tailgate party' in the Insignia Lounge, with hot dogs, popcorn, potato chips, and other goodies.

One thing that was very disappointing in the coverage, was that they did not show any of the highly vaunted commercials.  Instead, they kept repeating the same network 'promo' announcements over and over during those breaks...

Just for fun I compared my Oceania travel history with Winter Olympic dates. I am mistaken. My 2018 Oceania cruise did not coincide with the Winter Olympics. My 2014 cruise on Riviera dates did coincide with the Winter Olympics, so that is obviously the year I remember Oceania not showing them on the ship.

Oceania had a similar Super Bowl party on the Marina in February 2022.  It was fun!  They showed the game on the TVs in the staterooms.

For example?

Line dancing, team competition other than trivia, karaoke,  name that tune, there are many options.  However, Oceania doesn’t seem to try any of them.  We have been on 11 Oceania cruises.  We enjoy the people, the food and the itineraries.  The lack of entertainment on sea days or the days when ports have been canceled just seems lazy.

We have found line dancing and other type of dancing offered during the day, karaoke late night in Horizons - guess it depends upon the CD and if it is a port intensive cruise.

While I'd rather have a root canal than do any of these, while on Riviera 12/21 the piano player Tony and the singer/MC held a "name that tune" competition at the bar by the casino. He'd play a few notes and the tables of people wrote down their guesses. IIRC it was "competitive" and part of their O points entertainment series. Wife and I watched a few minutes of it as we were walking thru the area. Sometimes you have to pay close attention to the daily currents to see exactly what is being done where and when.

We never stay aboard ship in ports of call. However, for those that do, I remember the laughter and delight being expressed by some about an obstacle putt putt course the entertainment crew set up in Horizons. People putting under, around, and through a varied assortment of obstructions for O points. It did sound like a blast. I think a few enjoyed watching more than participating!! 😂

I believe a lot of activities, besides darn and gossip, occur that many aren’t aware of. By general observation, I doubt more than 50% , if that, even read the daily Currents to know what’s going on.

I agree

One cruise  we met a lady on disembarkation day

she mentioned she went to Tea  the day before  & how lovely it was  then said  too bad they did not have it more often 🙄
