Celebrity Millenium September 30 San Diego to Jan Juan PR

So this is 15 nights through the Panama Canal historic locks. This was on my wife’s bucket list for a long time. This is our 2nd cruise. The crew has been great and very helpful. What I am surprised about is only about 40% filled. We are certainly enjoying ourselves immensely.

Of course we are just at the beginning of our cruise. Next stop is Puerto Vallarta as there is a possible tropical storm they are watching.

I’ll be following for sure! We were off the Millennium on the 24th and had a wonderful time. It may not be very full because they added another week in Alaska to her schedule about 4 months ago and this threw off the schedules of the subsequent cruises. I know ours was less than half full. I would think a lot of people prefer the ease of ending a Panama Canal cruise in Florida too (rather than PR).

So announcement tonight was that stop in Puerto Vallarta is cancelled and replaced with a sea day. When I looked at NOAA this afternoon that is what I expected.

Have fun. We did the prior canal transit in April. Was a big bucket list item for us and acted quickly when we saw FV cabins available. The addition/swapping of Solstice and Millennium created a lot of inventory,  great prices, and probably a lot of limited capacity sailings. We are taking advantage by doing Solstice B2B in a couple weeks. Sorry to hear it about PV. 

 

Is Marren still one of the sommeliers?

Millie's a great ship. We were on her in August for a long overdue Alaskan cruise (which was only 75% full).  Relax, enjoy and have a great cruise!

I suspect there would be more people sailing on the cruise if it ended up in Fort Lauderdale or Miami.   Getting home from San Juan is more expensive and time consuming than just flying home from Florida

Is Marren still one of the sommeliers? 

Marren came back from leave on the ship when we were in Juneau last Alaskan cruise.  She is one of the best.

Marren is amazing!!  We were on the Millenium in March and she took such good care of us!  I'm hoping she will still be on for our cruise next March!!

Awesome! I guess that means I’ll get to see her in February when I’m back on Millennium. Adrian from the casino and pool bars, who is excellent will be back in a couple weeks too. Have they put Marren back in Cellar Masters? She ran that place like a fine oiled machine. She learned last night of the canal cruise she was being rotated into the dining room as a sommelier instead. Is Jenny still her sidekick in Cellar Masters?

Yes she will be as of right now she leaves the middle of April.  She is amazing & very helpful.

795 pax, which is 36% pax capacity…Amazingly not busy, however there are still waits for Blu at dinner…Photos we’re taken at around 1030am yesterday which was the first sea day

Blu seems to have a crowding problem on M class ships. We have had to wait up to 30 minutes for a table if we do not get seated by 6:30. Never happened to us on S Class while in dining in Blu. We did have to wait a few nights to be seated in Blu on our only Edge class cruise in AQ class, but never as long.

The other thing is the internet speed has been the best I’ve ever experienced at sea…Except for a slight dip before dinner, the download speed hovers about 2Mbps…Generally you have issues if it’s at least .7-1.0Mbps depending what you’re doing but even then it could be very slow.  While Musk’s starlink should be online by Q1 2023, who knows if X is able to meet that deadline

Marren is in Cellar Masters. She seems very knowledgeable. She has been able to find me Freemark Abbey Napa cab in their stocks. I will say hi.

Yes I totally agree. We just canceled a February cruise from San Juan. We are flying from Vancouver and just could not find good flights

Awesome. She's incredible. I spent a few cruises with Marren, although it took me a little time to find her when I was distracted by the Sunset Bar and then the Martini Bar initially. Then my parents joined for the canal and Cellar Masters was by then firmly our spot every night, in the chairs nearer to the MDR. Tell her hi from Brian and Denise & Turner. I'll be back solo February 3 on the FLL to San Juan leg. So glad she's back in Cellar Masters. Thanks 🙂

Thanks very much for posting about this cruise.  I had noticed the itinerary (and the prices) and it had really caught my attention.  The timing wasn't quite right for me, but I was really tempted! Mexico, Panama Canal transit, Cartagena, and the ABC islands are pretty good ports, plus a refurbished Millennium!

 

Has the internet continued to be OK? I am curious because I need it when I am not officially on vacation and would like to spend more time on ships if I can (I work remotely).

 

How is the food? The drinks?

I think they’re pulling your leg, because ours ended September 24th and had about 1000. That would have been one of the “last 2 sailings”.

Glad to hear it! We had the basic included with Aquaclass and it was awful. Really only good for reading emails (only in basic form-no images)  and very basic surfing. We were in Alaska, so that may have been the difference.
