It can’t always be sunny

Recommended Posts

I know the weather can change, but it is calling for a high percentage of rain for our upcoming short cruise on the Freedom of the Seas. I was planning on spending the majority of my days during the  week pool and beach side.  I have never been on the Freedom (or Coco Cay).

Other than the casino, how do people like to spend a rainy day on the Freedom?

Don't trust the forecast for the Bahamas and don't expect it to rain the entire time you're at Cococay or on the ship any other day.

My main activity is eating... weather doesn't affect that much, lol. Check the app/compass for daily activates like trivia, random classes/demonstrations, afternoon shows, etc.

My wife and I usually spend a couple hours in the Solarium each day when on the ship but we're not beach/pool people except on Cococay. There's plenty to do.

Stormy days are the best time to walk the Promenade Deck, to see and feel the sea!

But maybe that's just us.

I have to agree with the above posters who say that a rain forecast more likely will mean a few minutes or so, maybe some gray skies.

Thanks. I am used to passing showers and the captain steering around the weather on longer cruises. Currently they are calling for a quarter inch of rain each day, but it is still a week away, so I am hoping it will change. I was just wondering if there are any specific gems I should check out or do on the Freedom. I have cruised many times, but bringing a first time cruiser and want to be prepared to show her fun and sun on the sea, but without sun we will need even more FUN!!

We will have fun no matter what!! She just really needs a real world break and a brain break and I am a planner:)

Here in South Florida and Bahamas area its a bit too early to be expecting current forecasts to be accurate.

It's too early to forecast the afternoon earlier that morning in Florida or the Bahamas. 🤣

If I relied on the forcast in Florida/Caribbean for rain, I would carry a raincoat, umbrella everyday.

I live in Florida and trust me, where we are it rains more often than not and I never take a raincoat. Why because just like the Caribbean you can look at the sky tell when it’s going to rain, wait for the downpour then go back to enjoying yourselves!

unless it’s a tropical storm/ hurricane will pass by quite quickly.

caribbean is pretty much the same, humidity builds up, downpour comes then bright skies again.

We sat under a beach umbrella in the rain on Coco Cay in September when on Odyssey and it was lovely. Memorable, pretty, and actually quite fun. Kids and some adults weren't bothered by the rain and still swam on South Beach and built sand castles. The rain shower was done in under 30 minutes, maybe even 20. Friends of ours were on a jet ski excursion, saw the dark cloud and didn't get rained on at all. We were just in the right place at the right time.

A rainy day on Coco Cay is better than any day at home!

A quarter inch of rain is a short downpour that is over within minutes.

The forecast sounds more like a typical daily forecast for Florida and the Caribbean: Chance of rain, bright sun, overcast sky, no wind, slight breeze, gusty wind, downpour, hail - just wait ten minutes.

I've lived or visited many places around the world, and without exception every place I've lived or visited says that if you don't like the weather now, wait XX minutes.  However, I grew up in South Florida, Dania, FL., and after retiring from the Army I went back, for several years.  One thing for sure, is that when you live in a tropical type climate, you can actually and usually see a large curtain or wall of water coming which gives you a lot of time to get ready for the downpour that is coming.  And like has been said, it's over in just a few minutes, the sun is out and the humidity is almost unbearable for about an hour or two.

Rinse and repeat!
