Rare Malemew Posted October 23, 2022 #1 Share Posted October 23, 2022 Hey, hope you are all well. we are due on the getaway 7th November. Family are asking for gifts duty free cigarettes and liquor. does anyone know the cost of cigarettes on board vs on land in the states? also, if possible, does anyone recall how much 1 litre of gin may be in the duty free? thanks

Lightnin42 Posted October 24, 2022 #3 Share Posted October 24, 2022 On the Breakaway in August, cigarettes were 50$ per carton or buy 2 get one free. Alcohol? Didn’t see much of a deal there. Seemed to be close to prices on land.

I'm pretty sure cigarettes used to be like 2/$50 and you could get a bottle of Sapphire Gin for $18 (about 1/2 of land price)... also, on our last cruise, the liquor selection had dwindled to almost nothing... LaCal Posted October 24, 2022 #5 Share Posted October 24, 2022 $50 per carton and Buy 3 get the 4th free Great deal since a carton is almost $100 where I live
Rare mking8288 Posted October 24, 2022 #6 Share Posted October 24, 2022 Joy was running a special of Buy 3 get the 4th free last month on our Canada/NE run, for about $145 in total, which we purchased using part of our non-refundable OBC as gifts (not that we endorse or encourage the smokers to continue ...) Here in NY, each carton with sales is about $125 from what we heard.
Yesimapirate Posted October 24, 2022 #7 Share Posted October 24, 2022 Can't tell you about cigarettes but in the Mediterranean last week, alcohol was about 50% more than the duty free shops at Heathrow Airport. Guy on the ship told me it's because I don't understand how to convert pounds to dollars 😶
Rare JGmf Posted October 24, 2022 #8 Share Posted October 24, 2022 I drive to/from the my nearest cruise pier (NYC), so I'm routinely looking to see if it's worth the packing and lugging-it-around hassle to buy alcohol on the ship vs just buying it at home. The conclusion: most of the time you save about $6-$10 on a bottle, at least on the stuff I buy (Baileys, vodka, some liqueurs). I'll do it if I have casino or other credit to use. Rare Lupush Posted October 24, 2022 #9 Share Posted October 24, 2022 On board Encore earlier this month, booze prices were considerably higher than on land in Florida. No deals to be had there.

I picked up a bottle of Veuve Clicquot because I had some OBC to burn on the last day. I would have gotten a second but they only had the one. The price was a bit higher than I could have gotten it for in PA.
pbenjamin Posted October 31, 2022 #12 Share Posted October 31, 2022 From what I saw, the only reason to buy alcohol at the duty free shop is if you have nonrefundable OBC. I bought a bottle of Veuve Clicquot, a bottle of Zacapa 23 and a Macallan Lumina. The first two were priced on par with Total Wine here in Phoenix. The scotch is a duty free only item, so no comparison.
