Amazon river question for past cruisers

I read on FB that during the 10 days cruising the Amazon river that HAL does not do laundry!   Is this true?   Thanks!

That’s interesting and thanks for the heads up.  I await the experts but I imagine it is because their water conversion system is for salt water, not fresh water.

That is true. I believe that in Manaus you can do it, because it's on another river, the Rio Negro.

It's because there's so much silt in the Amazon they cannot make water.  Fresh water is fine but not dirty water.

That's correct, but not it's not for 10 days, if I remember correctly 5 or 6 days

And that is why we won’t even consider a balcony on our next Amazon cruise.

Water conversation was requested on our Amazon cruise and the Captain said later we saved about 30%.

Bugs and moths: up on the top deck is a great place to see them.  We had a bat on the lower prom (Veendam) and a cricket or two.

🤮.  I’ve heard this before.  I’d like to do this cruise someday but I’d struggle with the bug situation.

Did the Panama in both directions on Princess had a balcony  but do not remember bugs etc  and I am very careful of bugs as they love me   perhaps it is at a particular time of year

Loved our Amazon cruise, yes there are bugs laying on the deck in the morning, but they never bothered us during the day. We did two excursions, one to a rubber plantation & an Indian village, never had any bugs.

In fact, the water makers would have an easier time making potable water from fresh than from salt.  No, the reason is that the ship is not allowed to make water when within 12 miles of shore, as there is greater risk of contamination or infectious disease close to shore, where municipal or industrial outfalls are.

This is the Amazon not Panama.  Two totally different things.

Doesn’t just happen in the Amazon.  On Royal Princess in 1999, Buenos Aires to Manaus, first stop was Montevideo and I came on deck to find surfaces covered with dragon flies.  EM
