Will Princess let me use "shore excursion credit" for something else

Over the years I've received promotional credits from my TA however I realized that on my upcoming cruise some of the credits are listed as "shore excursion credit"... There aren't really an excursions I want to go on. Will Princess allow this to be regular shipboard credit, or will I lose it if I don't go on an excursion?

Yes....you can use it as regular OBC.

You can use it just like any other OBC.

No need to go on an excursion if you don't want to.

I "read somewhere" - maybe here on CC, that the language 'credit can not be used in casino' might actually start being enforced.  will 'excursion credit' follow - NO EXCURSION, NO EXCURSION CRUISE CREDIT FOR YOU 🤑😈

We couldn’t find any excursions we wanted to go on either so we did some retail therapy. I used my excursion credits in the Brighton jewelry section of the Princess shop. I was pleased to see a wide selection of bracelets, necklaces and earrings there and the prices were the same as if I had bought them back home. My DH bought himself a very nice Tommy Bahama shirt. 😊

No onboard credit is 'supposed' to be used in the casino.  We know differently, so does the cruise line, but they haven't figured out how to segregate ship charges from casino charges...YET. 

 

I'm sure if they ever hire someone to distinguish between the charges and change the code, we won't be able to play the casino trick anymore.

I used shore excursion credit in the casino in December 2022. But they also told me that updates to their machines are coming and will prevent me from using OBC there in the future. 

 

At that point I might upgrade my standard booking to plus once I board. Until then status quo

I don’t use the casino, but I would like to use the excursion credit for specialty dining and maybe shopping, so it sounds like that won’t be an issue

not to come across like the total casino rookie that i am... but...   may i ask how you go about  using the obc in the casino??   does it show as available funds and you just transfer it to the machine?

This topic should be verboten here.  You can setup a casino account at tables or slots and you can charge your cabin account for funds to gamble with.  Enough said.

Maybe if people stopped talking about using their OBC in the casino Princess wouldn't do anything about it. The constant posting here is not helpful.

My experience is that Princess, no matter what the OBC is called, only differentiates between refundable  and non-refundable.  The totals for each category is shown.  Shipboard charges, no matter what are subtracted from the total OBC, first from the non-refundable, then from the  refundable.  That way, any actual cash you added to your account, and any refundable Military OBC left over are protected and can be refunded without a lot of bookkeeping.
