Some of the brits on our upcoming sailing managed to get a lovely deal of £43 pp each day on their drink packages. What a fantastic deal. For us right now, that would be around $1260 for the two of us. But without that cool discount, we'd be forking out something like $1861 for two drink packages. We're on a 12 night sailing but since we are Diamond, we get 4 free drinks each per day.

It was a great deal and I managed to get it for two sailings. It’s fine up to £60 now and that’s only for European itineraries.

You'll probably start to see a lot more wine drinkers, as they can carry two bottles on (and rum runners being snuck on board).  People will start to get creative again.  Saw one where they emptied a red bottle of wine, poured dark alcholol in it, and then re-corked and got a wine cap shrink off amazon.  Looked like an un opened bottle of wine....

100% agree.

Mine went on "margarita day" sale too. $54.99/day. If it was a 7 day cruise, I miiiiiight buy it, just because it's so much cheaper than I've ever seen it, even though I know I wouldn't get my money's worth even at that price.

But my cruise is a 12-day. Ain't no way I'm spending $778 per person on drinks. We got tired of sugary drinks by day 4 with the refreshment package so I just don't see us getting anywhere close to a good value on this, even at $54.99.

My wife and I are not heavy drinkers.  Not even close.  When you consider all the drinks included (fresh squeezed juices, specialty coffees, soda, bottled water, alcohol, shakes from Johnny Rockets, etc) it is very easy to "break even".  Not that I'm justifying the high price but it makes it easier to swallow (pun intended).  Plus the added benefit of not having to worry about tracking how much you spent, if you should have another drink or not, feeling obligated to drink something that doesn't taste great because you just spent $14 on it, etc.  It works for us.  Just my .02.

By the way we paid $75.99 pp/pd plus tip for our upcoming 8 night Southern in June on Mariner.

I would agree on a transatlantic with lots of sea days..... a port-intensive cruise, not so much.  Unless of course you're a stay-on-ship person, in which case every day is a sea day 😉

$54.99 is the number I'll buy it as a gift for the spouse (he wants to pay under $50, but I don't see that happening).  Just for the reason you said - after 2-3 days, even if he drinks the full "come out a tiny bit ahead" 4 drinks the 1st few, he won't want as many later, so this way, he doesn't feel pressure to overdrink beyond what he actually would drink...

I actually broke down and bought it. I can't believe I did that, I know for sure we won't get our moneys worth and I knew as soon as I pushed "purchase" that it was a stupid buy 😂.

After reading so many threads about how high everyone else's prices were, even with the special "margarita-day" discount, the corporate psychology started to work on me, and I was thinking, "What if I change my mind, what if I become a drinker in the next 6 months, what if I regret not buying i?t"  So I bought it to stop the voices. 😂

I'm 99.9% sure I'll cancel it but I'll wait until closer to the cruise, or until the refreshment package goes down in price. It doesn't hurt anything to buy it for now since it's returnable.

Also - side note, the "one day sale" price is still available in my cruise planner today 🙄.

prices of every vice will go up forever. people need their booze. also have you seen the price of cancer sticks lately? in a casino i saw them 20 per pack. i could have brought some in and undercut the competition!

plus the fact is if you drink that much that the package makes sense, then it's still cheaper to buy than pay per drink!  so you are still getting a deal. half glass full thinking! you are on vacation. just splurge

I'm not your average drinker of any beverages but the UBP may still make sense for me if the price goes down.  I say that because I don't drink juice or soda, or specialty coffees, or sugary drinks.  I drink A LOT of water, and need more than ship water so I do buy a water package for the room but also use that in my calculation of "break even" for the UBP.  My other vice on board is vodka waters (vodka and water) so in theory that should just cost what a shot is.  So if the vodka waters are $10.99 and bottles of water $3.25 to plan on one bottle of water with every drink as a rough estimate (not for the drink but in addition to the drink - I dehydrate easily), with 18% gratuity, that's $16.80 so at the current $75.99 a day, break even is just over 5 drinks a day (5.34).  That isn't hard to do between lounging at the pool or on the islands, and evenings, so it's tempting, but I just can't bring myself to do it yet.  Husband is similar except his drinks are vodka/soda or juice so his break even would be lower.  Right now though the refreshment package is $26.99 so that may better and just plan on paying for shots.  We shall see where we end up!
