Thrak Posted February 21, 2023 #2 Share Posted February 21, 2023 It will definitely either be sunny and warm or foggy and cold or rainy. We've been lucky as we have visited Alaska 4 times and had beautiful weather in May, June, September, and August.
memoak Posted February 22, 2023 #3 Share Posted February 22, 2023 It can be anything from t shirt weather to bundle up and still be cold. You can’t really plan on anything
eclue Posted February 22, 2023 #4 Share Posted February 22, 2023 WE are going in June for the 9th time - I check the weather the week before we leave and then determine what to pack and even then, one never knows!

Layers, layers, layers that are easy to peel off and easy to put on. Definitely a wind and rain shell - preferably one with a hood. As mentioned - it can be tank tops and shorts in the sun or hoodies and jackets in the cool and rainy. Or both within 15 minutes of each other.
mtnesterz Posted February 22, 2023 #6 Share Posted February 22, 2023 Welcome to CC. In addition to climate, you might also have many other questions about Alaska. A good place to look is the Ports of Call, Alaska section. You will find this on the main forum page, because the weather will be the same on any other ship as it is on a Princess ship. For climate, per each city, you can Google that. Being so far apart, Anchorage will be much different than Ketchikan, though I can almost assure you of rain in Ketchikan, where they measure rainfall in feet, not inches. Agree with above mentioned layers otherwise.
donaldsc Posted February 22, 2023 #7 Share Posted February 22, 2023 There are lots of good WEB sites that you can use to get the weather at many locations in AK. There are fewer good climate sites however. I suggest that you go on one of them a few days before you leave so you can adjust your packing appropriately. roadster08 Posted February 22, 2023 #8 Share Posted February 22, 2023 My first trip to Alaska in June also. Layering is important, and the type materials as well. Cotton is not a good idea because it feels cold when wet from rain or perspiration. Waterproof outer layer and moisture wicking inside layers will keep you most comfortable. Sporting good stores carry this type of clothing.
capriccio Posted February 22, 2023 #9 Share Posted February 22, 2023 Don' forget footwear. I always use a waterproof spray on our walking shoes.

Expect layers and anything and everything. Rain wear, coat, windbreaker. Shorts and pants, long sleeve & short. Of course check weather sites before going. Also depends on what shore excursions you plan on doing and how active they are. Example-if your excursions are on a bus all day you won’t need as many layers etc. And if you’re going to be outdoors all day then different story . What to expect: if you visit Arizona specifically the Phoenix area in the summer months expect hot weather. But Alaska weather in my opinion can be anything , I have been to Alaska twice ,once in July and once at the end of August and they were very different weather wise. Rare cruisequeen4ever Posted February 27, 2023 #11 Share Posted February 27, 2023 Pack layers that would prepare you for anything from 40s in the rain to 60s in the sun and everything inbetween. You may even get a day in the 70s. The most common temps are 50s-60s, though.
eclue Posted February 27, 2023 #12 Share Posted February 27, 2023 You can expect anything. Check the weather a few days before you leave and pack accordingly. WE have been 9 times and going again in June. WE no longer take the ugg boots and heavy jackets....last year it was in the high 70's to 80's at the same time in JUne/ WE always take umbrellas and/or rain jackets....we really have been lucky with sunny spectacular weather every time we went. Rare SuzieQ521 Posted February 27, 2023 #13 Share Posted February 27, 2023 Echoing everyone else...Be prepared and layer! We went in late September a few years ago...Juneau was only the real drizzly/foggy port so we had our rain gear there, but Ketchikan and Skagway were pretty mild and sunny. We bought water resistant shoes and rain jacket to layer over warmer clothes. We're going in mid-May this year so will see how that goes!
