jimb98 Posted February 22, 2023 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2023 Cruising from Barbados next January, visiting St Vincent, St. Lucia, Guadeloupe, Tobago and Grenada Any suggestions on whether it’d be best for a balcony cabin on port or starboard, taking into account weather, views etc? Can’t get an Aft so need advice on which side is best.?
CruiserBruce Posted February 22, 2023 #2 Share Posted February 22, 2023 Doesn't matter. Most of your sailing will be at night, or away from land.
Harry and Lucille Posted February 22, 2023 #3 Share Posted February 22, 2023 The simple answer is YES.

jimb98 Posted February 22, 2023 Author #5 Share Posted February 22, 2023 Thanks, I accept most of the cruising will be at night. Our sea day will be from Guadeloupe to Tobago so any thoughts on which route it would take (obviously other than South) so that we’d get the sun on the balcony and do we sail close enough to the islands to actually see them en-route? While at sea you are rarely close enough to land to be able to see much more than a lump on the horizon a few mikes off - yes, you “see” the islands but not well enough to recognize anything. I suspect the route will be to the east of the string of islands, but not close enough to see much.
Rare Essiesmom Posted February 23, 2023 #8 Share Posted February 23, 2023 If you are sailing south, sun will be on port side in the AM, starboard I PM. So it just depends on WHEN you want to be in the sun. EM
sanger727 Posted February 23, 2023 #9 Share Posted February 23, 2023 (edited) I agree that it doesn’t really matter. In the Caribbean we have never been close enough to islands while cruising to have a scenic side. Edited February 23, 2023 by sanger727
Joebucks Posted February 24, 2023 #10 Share Posted February 24, 2023 People like to draw a line in the sand on how their decision is best. It depends when you want to be able to see what you want to see. I did one of each and rarely used either as I was up on the deck most of the time. Capt_BJ Posted February 25, 2023 #11 Share Posted February 25, 2023 do you prefer the water to go left to right or right to left? I tend to spend very little time on my veranda .... like to have one but can't say I sit out there much . .

ecs66 Posted March 4, 2023 #13 Share Posted March 4, 2023 If sailing out of Ft. Lauderdale we like port side for maybe a silly reason. As you sail from the pier, the ships pass the webcam and you can wave at the folks back home as you pull out, assuming they want to go online and watch. https://www.portevergladeswebcam.com/
