Embarkation at Venice/Fusina

Recommended Posts

Our Regent statement for our cruise leaving Venice/Fusina next month says "All embarkation processes will take place at the Venice Cruise Terminal." Does anyone have any experience with where to go and how to get there?

Fusina itself is a truck ferry port, and doesn't have terminal buildings to handle cruise passengers.  My understanding is that for space and security reasons, passengers are checked in at the old Venice cruise terminal, sometimes called Marittima.  Passengers are transferred by bus (and luggage by truck) directly to the ship from there.

Marittima is at the northwest end of Venice proper near the causeway from the mainland and accessible by cab from the mainland or airport.  There is a "people mover" shuttle tram that can take you from Piazzale Roma (where busses and vaporetto stop) to Marittima for a euro or two.  I'm not sure if a water taxi could land you closer than Pl Roma.

Is this transfer available to everyone? We have not taken the Regent

air or hotel ( We wanted to stay in Venice ‘downtown’.) if not available

to us, can we purchase it from Regent or can we find another transfer

program?

This is a map of the cruise terminal. From most places in Venice you can get a water taxi or the water bus (Vaporetto) to the cruise terminal so if you stay further into Venice it shouldn't cause you a problem. I would only say that not every hotel is on a canal and there are a lot of cobbled streets which don't make luggage pulling easy 😜

As you arranged your own air and hotel then the Regent transfers will not be available to you.

You will have to make arrangements to get yourselves & your luggage to the cruise embarkation check-in location identified on your cruise documents. You and your luggage will then be taken to the ship.

Any queries then speak to Regent.

Thank you Flossie

Regent confirms that they will transfer all to Fusina post check in. This

is a great relief as I was struggling w private arrangements to Fusina.

Of course I don’t expect transfers to and from our independently booked

hotel.

Jennefer, the Grandeur inaugural still lists Trieste as embarkation port; will this also be moved to Fusina? Just wondering if Trieste is not a good location for a hotel night before embarkation.

thanks,

Marc

The checking in procedures having to be done at a different location to Fusina would seem to be a huge pain in the you know what. I just want to get on and get off or perhaps I'm not as hardy as some of you.

The check-in process should not be a pain! You check in at the Marittima Cruise Terminal in Venice, as has been the process for many, many years. Your luggage is tagged and collected there; your boarding documents are checked there. The only change is that instead of then walking onto the ship, you walk onto a bus. The bus drive across the causeway to the industrial docks on the mainland and pulls up at the ship; you then walk off the bus and onto the ship. If disembarking in Venice, it's the same in reverse.

If you are just stopping in Venice for a port date, then you'll still use the busses from and to the mainland, and any excursions will depart from the Marittima Cruise Terminal, or you can head into Venice on your own. The only downside is the extra shuttle bus coming and going.

Why is it so difficult to reach Fusina Harbor as Taxis are going

What is the fastest way to get from Mira to Fusina?

The quickest way to get from Mira to Fusina is to taxi which costs €15 - €19 and takes 13 min.

So wondering of meanwhile the policy has changed with RSSC as we are cruising in october.

@yvesvn Please note the portion quoted above from RSSC staffer Jennefer Teegen earlier in this thread.

Everyone has to go to the Marittima Cruise Terminal in Venice for check-in and then Regent transfers us to the ship docked in Fusina.

And welcome to Cruise Critic!  There are roll calls for the trips out of Venice in October if you want to check them out and join.

@yvesvn There is a car park and a ferry terminal at Fusina — but that's not the dock where the cruise ships berth. Because there are no facilities at the dock for things like security, check-in desks, and luggage handling, cruise ship passengers go through the old cruise terminal in Venice. But if you want to disregard what a Regent staff member has shared, and what others cruising and and out of Venice have shared from their personal experiences, go ahead and believe what you want to believe. 😀

The poster is new to CC and possibly cruising. Maybe we can cut him some slack if he is new to the requirements of the various cruise-ship terminals. Otherwise he will really be in a world of hurt trying to board.😂

I just ask RSSC to

to change the reason not to go to Fusina Harbor : as there are no facilities to board
and not that taxies does drive there as there started my confusion.

So we do not have to change our booked Hotel as taxi will bring us to Venice Terminal Passaggeri instead of Fusina Harbor.

Well, taxis cannot go to the pier area where cruise ships berth, which is exactly what the Regent representative said above in this thread: "no taxis or private cars are permitted to enter the berthing facility."  There are other part of Fusina, including the ferry terminal, where taxis are allowed. (And in case anyone thinks perhaps you could taxi to the ferry terminal and then walk to the cruise ship; you can't. 😀) So there's no reason they need for Regent to change anything; you can't take a taxi to the area of the Fusina port where you board a cruise ship. So everyone goes to the Marittima Cruise Port in Venice for boarding, and ends up there when disembarking.
