In early 2020, you could book all of the current fleet, including Rotterdam (then Ryndam).  Amsterdam, Veendam, and the former Rotterdam have since been scrapped.  If no new ships are ordered, capacity can not follow the graph as shown.

I am sorry but I have to chuckle at people here complaining about HAL prices. We recently booked 2 HAL cruises for Nov this year and August next year because of the great deals they offered compared to Celebrity. No casino deals for us either.

I agree. We currently have 2 HAL and 2 Celebrity cruises booked (and one with NCL and one with Princess). We are definitely paying a premium on the Celebrity cruises compared to HAL. HAL is pretty much coming out as the most affordable of those lines for us (we always looks at equivalent of HIA  and includes gratuities for our comparison).

We leave for what will be our first Celebrity cruise on Saturday, and curious to see if the premium is worth is for us. The other Celebrity we booked was due to limited options for single direction cruises to Hawaii (RCL or Celebrity).

The Casino discount is a bonus (we don't get freebies, but we do get a discount) so will continue to visit the Casino on future HAL cruises as the 'payback' in discounts is quite good for our level of play.

Unless you are booked in either Aqua Class or the Retreat with Celebrity, there is nothing "premium" about Celebrity anymore. On the new E class ships only Suites and aft facing verandah cabins get a real open traditional balcony, everyone else gets a window that opens, IV cabins, which cost more than a real balcony on HAL newer ships.

OP, have you been to a supermarket lately or bought gas for your car recently?  This is 2023 and not 2019.

Book the cruise (especially if you need a handicap cabin) it or leave it.

Exactly. Travelling is a "discretionary" expenses. If you can't afford (or don't like) the cost, don't book it and look for something else.

I really can't sympathize with people bemoaning "the holiday I want costs too much" . There are so many options out there, and if you can afford to be looking at holidays at all, then you are among the lucky.

We're booked in Sunset (Aft) Verandahs for both as we wanted to compare to HAL aft balconies which we have really enjoyed. Next week is Millenium (smaller/older than Edge guess) and then the Edge for Hawaii.  We got pretty good deals on those "afts"  though ....(we like to think)

This.  We are a family of four and know that there are many vacation type options that we can work with.  Our last cruise was 2018 on the Celebrity Equinox under what might be considered a "fire sale" due to hurricane damage in the area.  For the past few years our once a year vacations have been domestic/drivable--part of this was Covid, part of it was budget. We consider ourselves very lucky that we can get away for a week each year. I consider us to be blessed that we area able to cash flow a HAL cruise this summer.

I am still convinced that many people are receiving free or discounted cruises. For example, did you receive the 20-25% casino discount? I receive that off of all cruises that I book.

We booked Rotterdam TA in 2024 with HIA and Early Booking Bonus (more perks and pre-paid grats included) and received our 25% Casino Discount.  Extremely good price and  our shipboard account will most likely stay at zero.  That discount makes a huge difference!

Seems like a good deal for you .How long & how many casino deals will not impact the corporate bottom line is the question ?  These promos can not last forever . We do not see a really bright future for cruise line stocks

Our thought is to take advantage of the discount offered to us until HAL no longer offers it, which could be sooner than later.  If it ends, then we’ll just have to compare prices with the other lines.  We also get a reduced casino rate with Princess.  Time will tell.

The cruise lines are hyping bookings during the wave sales period .The real question will be at accelerated price increases where will the booking numbers come in at for succeeding quarters

Hal is famous for sky high prices out of the gate then they give away the farm closer to the cruise date.  I’m hearing that from a lot of cruise lines.  I’m still working so I’m stuck for now.  Can’t wait for the day I can cherry pick closer to the cruise date.  Unfortunately air usually is high so that takes away savings.

I agree with the sky high prices out of the gate.  I just looked at a popular discount cruise agency and for all categories the discount from established retail prices is only 5%.  You are right about cherry picking closer to the date; that is what we do and I find our fares quite discounted from HAL fares.  It's the same with excursions and if people want to take the HAL excursions for convenience, you just have to accept that convenience is going to cost more.

Take it while you can . We now will only look at HAL cruises closer to sail dates  to see what cabins are available & at what prices .

We live in a senior area  near the beach in San Diego with lots of recreation with eating out periodically it is as close to a vacation as we can get with out the driving .Our weather cooperates most of the year

You keep carrying on about your negativity and Holland America.  There are other vacation options. We have friends who love camping with a tent.  They are very happy.

Thank goodness I can afford something in the range between these two options.

I was speaking industry not single line.  This is truly a case where a rising tide lifts all ships😊
