S.A.L.T. Kitchen destination themed meals on 14-day all-Norway cruise?

Soon-to-be first-time Silversea cruiser, booked on a 14 day all-Norway cruise later this year.  I see many glowing reviews of S.A.L.T. kitchen, which says it provides "destination themed meals" wherever the ship ends up being on any particular day.

I'm just wondering - on a 14 day cruise that starts and ends in Norway, and never goes anywhere but Norway (south to north and back again)... does S.A.L.T.  Kitchen really just do 14 straight meals of Norwegian cuisine?  Or do they have a special policy for cruises like this which spend such a long time in just a single country, to change things up a little?

I have sailed Moon and Dawn (not to Norway) but I always enjoy SALT. I can say (from my experience) sometimes the menu has specific items to the countries on the itinerary and sometimes they also offer items geared  to "the region"...If you eat there all 14 nights? You might see the same things but if you spread out the dining experience, you will probably find more options. I know SALT always has varying opinions as we all like different things. Personally, I love the concept and the food too🙂 but I don't think I would eat there for 2 weeks straight. Lots of other options are good as well🙂

Now, maybe there is someone who has done this itinerary while on this ship and can give you a first hand experience.

I hope you have a great cruise🙂

Hi, Lois!  We have not done, yet, the SALT concept and menus.  But, looking forward to it in February 2024 for doing Mumbai to Singapore on the Silver Moon. Realize, with all of the options on these ship, that you might only do it two or three times during our upcoming 18-day cruise.

Can you remember and offer a few examples for what you liked and enjoyed most with SALT on your Moon and Dawn sailings?  Any visuals?  Other tips and insights for maximizing the SALT experience?

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

Hi Terry, I am not a picture taker so I can't provide any visuals. As for the food, being totally honest, I sailed Moon back in 2021 and it was a Greek Itinerary so I know they had plenty of Greek dishes on the menu in SALT but I really don't remember the items. (it has been 2 years since that cruise). And even on my 2 Dawn cruises, I can't recall the menu. One was in Spain and it was the cruise I had hurt my leg (not sure if you remember that) but I didn't have a big appetite on that sailing. My most recent cruise on the Dawn was in January around the Caribbean. I think I ate in SALT about 3 times. One was a fish dish, one a pork and one a steak. I enjoyed all of them.   I will be on the Dawn again in August going to the British Isles. I have no clue what will be served in SALT.........Fish and Chips? Prime Rib Roast and Yorkshire Pudding?  Will just have to wait and see.🙂

I am currently on this itinerary on the Dawn but have only eaten in SALT once, I enjoy all the other options too. Particularly being on deck at Hot Rocks as I was last night in blazing sunshine - it felt like it ought to have been lunchtime - IMO it would have been a waste to be indoors at the solstice this far north, we are at Nordkapp today.

However I do look at the menus on the interactive app and it looks like about half the SALT menu is 'regional' and doesn't change much, and about half is 'local' and changes daily or every few days.

And yes, the dishes are all Nordic cuisine - that's the whole point of the SALT concept.

There are plenty of different dining venues if you want other cuisines.

P.S. the overhead heaters at the Grill and Spaccanapoli are fixed and working well.

Jollyjones - I'd love to see a pic of the current Norway-themed SALT menu if you're able to grab one!  Cheers, and enjoy your cruise!

Super appreciate these helpful follow-ups from Lois and jollyjones.  Very good details and background.  Keep it coming!!  Hopefully in the future, there can be posting for these SALT menus.  Realize the offerings will vary depending as to the regions being sailed.  For our February 2024 Mumbai to Singapore sailing, I would assume they offered varied items from India, Thailand, Malaysia, etc.

THANKS!  Enjoy!  Terry in Ohio

BTW I spoke too soon about the overhead heaters - they were fine but have just broken again.

A particular shame as I’m pizzaing at Spaccanapoli watching the northernmost coast of Norway go by - we’ll be at Nordkapp in 20 mins so while it’s not freezing, it’s a bit nippy.

Great that you are up, UP at the North Cape, enjoying the "Top of Europe".  Have great memories from being there in July 2010 on the Silver Cloud.  Yes, it can be a little cool up there.

Appreciate this additional SALT menu examples.  It does help understand much better the concept and offerings.  If any others have SALT menu examples from other parts of the world, it would be nice to see.  As always, I am addicted to "food porn" visuals and love to see those pictures.

Funny and cute!!  Yes, I will be very careful to just look at the food pix's and not trying any tasting or touching.  That keeps the calorie count low.
