Ktuluorion Posted August 14, 2023 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2023 Anyone ever try asking the butler to bring you something like a lobster tail snack every day at 3pm? I would think it's not a crazy request since they have them already at the haven restaurant.
goldmom Posted August 14, 2023 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2023 My guess is that you can ask for it but it would only be available when the Haven restaurant is actually open for dinner. I forget the exact hours, but doubt 3pm would work. Enjoy!

I did read somewhere that someone was able to get them to accommodate giving him a lobster tail at lunch or breakfast.. so they may be available outside of dinner. Sand and Seas Posted August 14, 2023 #4 Share Posted August 14, 2023 (edited) OK, since they are available on the menu.... I've read that some ships pool side lunch menu has Tempura Vegetables? I would want Tempura Lobster & vegetables😋 Edited August 14, 2023 by Sand and Seas
Rare BirdTravels Posted August 14, 2023 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2023 We have steak (used to be filet, now NY strip) and eggs brought in the morning. We’re in the Haven later this year. Not sure I would want to come back from an excursion to find a cold lobster and congealed butter on the table.
Rare cruiseny4life Posted August 14, 2023 #6 Share Posted August 14, 2023 It's not exactly "far" as it's room service, but we did work with our butler to have Shanghai dim sum served to us. We didn't want to wait in line so talked with the butler. He told us to give him an hour notice. Well, we did. In an hour we had hot and tasty dim sum without standing in that atrocious line! So worth the price of admission!

I've "heard" somewhere on these forums that someone requested the filet (which I believe is available at dinner) and they were able to do it. Yes, you can do this. My husband requested one. He received two! You should do your best to make your request at least a day in advance.

kasimir Posted August 14, 2023 #10 Share Posted August 14, 2023 Such a great question since our first Haven cruise is coming up in three months, we were wondering the same thing. Specifically, my wife and I don't want a huge snack (like sandwiches), but something small and nice to enjoy for a moment together in between meals without getting too full. We would actually love to receive 2-3 macarons, with some chocolate covered strawberries/fruits delivered to enjoy with a coffee or tea on a daily basis. Maybe I missed it, but haven't seen macarons as snack option in the Haven yet. Is that realistic and is it an extra charge?
CatBoiler Posted August 14, 2023 #11 Share Posted August 14, 2023 We sailed on the Epic during the Super Bowl in 2017. It was a sea day so all the bars & common spaces were packed. They set up a super bowl party in the atrium and had free snacks (popcorn, pretzels, etc). We figured getting a real meal during the game would be a HUGE hassle, so we arranged for food delivery with our butler. We ordered a couple pizzas to be delivered around halftime. We kept our room phone with us and he called us when he was in the atrium and we were able to find him easily. We were able to keep our seats at the party and still have a full meal. People around us were SO jealous. As I understand it, you can get pretty much anything that's available on board with enough advanced planning. Want a lobster tail every day at 3pm? Probably doable if you ask on day one.

Is that realistic and is it an extra charge? This was 6.5 years ago but we did get a macaron once. We didn't ask for any specific snacks, just took whatever he left each day. The savory snacks were smaller most days, more canape size than full sandwich. I believe these sandwiches came with potato chips too. You could definitely ask for something like macarons, chocolate covered strawberries, etc. We did get a giant fruit plate one day and when we embarked there was a bowl full of fruit already in our cabin (apples, pears, oranges, etc)
janice2348 Posted August 14, 2023 #13 Share Posted August 14, 2023 We wrote our butler a letter in advance with a list of afternoon snacks that we wanted. We also ordered off of several specialty dining menus. I’m sure with advance notice you could be accommodated. It depends on the butler. Some are more willing to do what you ask than others. It’s certainly worth a try.
Rare graphicguy Posted August 14, 2023 #14 Share Posted August 14, 2023 I wonder what they'd charge to have a Lobster Tail delivered daily as a snack?

We recently asked for chocolate dipped pineapple to alternate with chocolate strawberries. Both are favorites with us. They are a tasty late night 'light' dessert. We first received the choc pineapple from the casino. After that, asked our butler and he was able to get them for the following day. I haven't received macarons, but I know they sometimes have them onboard for sale so perhaps they will find them for you?
Rare Traveling Fools Posted August 15, 2023 #16 Share Posted August 15, 2023 I wouldn't think shrimp cocktail to be extreme. We frequently request smoked salmon and when traveling with Grandkids a hefty snack waiting for them on return to the ship. Push comes to shove, you can always head to the buffet and bring something back..doubt it will be anything close to lobster.

Rare graphicguy Posted August 15, 2023 #18 Share Posted August 15, 2023 I recall my Butlers giving me a specific choice of snacks….M&Ms, nuts, canapés, finger sandwiches….never head off Lobster Tails. Would love to hear of anyone who got a Lobster Tail as an afternoon snack everyday at no charge!
Yinster Posted August 15, 2023 #19 Share Posted August 15, 2023 Having never tried but I suspect if it's on a menu, it will more doable than not. The worst that can happen is no they can't accommodate. Whatever happens, do remember to tip well
Rare graphicguy Posted August 15, 2023 #20 Share Posted August 15, 2023 Maybe only at dinner time. And, probably only as part of the surf and turf on the menu, which means they’d had to do dinner set up in your room. Every time I’ve tried to deviate from the snacks they bring in the room daily, it’s usually only a minor change they can accommodate. Like getting chips instead of M&Ms. Even there, when I told the Butler I didn’t want snacks in the afternoon, he delivered them anyway. So, I guess you can request anything. Getting it might be a different story.

We always let the butler know what we want, and that we would prefer to only receive what we request. Unfortunately, we do receive what we want, but we also receive the "standard" snack of the day. I'm going to be a broken record, but I'd really prefer to have a) no afternoon snack delivered, unless specifically requested, or b) a "menu" of items we can choose from. These would be the only items the butler would serve. Save NCL money. Save me some guilt for the waste incurred.

Concur, all too often our snacks go untouched and sometimes more than one source is delivering snacks daily. Often we'll return to the cabin to find the afternoon snacks, then food item from the GM (or other department), and sometimes even a third source. Mid cruise we returned to not only find three "gifts", but the fruit basket had been replenished! My experience in the past the butler was a little more responsive to our request to minimize food; however, on our last cruise the butler was the invisible man and didn't respond well to our request. Yep, the chocolate-covered strawberries ("the most overrated food on the planet," as I call them) start going bad from the inside-out as they lay untouched for a day or two. Please, no. That said, I'm not clear what they could bring on a routine basis, without your prompting, that would make your (expensive) room/trip feel special. It probably wouldn't be too difficult to have NCL develop a pre-cruise list of snack options, as part of check-in, to make your trip more enjoyable (and hopefully avoid waste). I know Princess Cruises does that for their suites. 2
JustAllie Posted August 16, 2023 #25 Share Posted August 16, 2023 The one time we got an upgrade to a cabin with a butler, I remember requesting M&Ms, gummy bears, and potato chips. That worked pretty well, but we still got canapés and sandwiches which we didn't really need. Not to say we didn't eat them anyway, but.... 😉 Potato chips are surprisingly difficult to find on NCL cruise ships, so if you can get them it's a real bonus. But see if can convince the butler not to leave them next to a moist sandwich for hours -- which will make them soggy.
