Moveover offer on Diamond Princess

Given the difficulty I've read about from many people trying to get legitimate refunds from Princess after a cruise, I wouldn't be assuming you'd necessarily get your money back.

Actually, we accepted a Move Over offer from Princess this past summer for our 14 day Mediterranean cruise on the Enchanted.  It was a total win.  The new date that we chose to sail had much better weather and the Princess representative that we spoke to found us a little larger balcony stateroom than the one that we originally had in the same section of the ship.  She also rebooked our EZ Air flights and Princess absorbed the increase in fares for the new dates.  We received our checks for the refunded cruise fare exactly when they said that they would arrive (approximately 6 weeks after the cruise).  We could not have asked for anything better and would willingly take another Move Over offer again if it was  ever offered in the future.  Realistically, good fortune of this nature is usually a one time thing.

We had that in 2017. Actually, we volunteered to "Move Over" from two cabins to one cabin for 4 (balcony) after seeing that they oversold and they accepted our offer. Four of us traveled free on that trip and money was back to our account.

How do you "volunteer" to "Move Over"?  We are on a cruise that has no Balconies, Mini Suites or Suites available.  I am sure they are overbooked in those categories.  I would do an inside for a free cruise in a heartbeat!

Initially, you don't volunteer; Princess picks you.  Not sure what the criteria is.  I suspect, it has something to do with your cruise fare relative to other cruise fares in the category and wanting to bump those who paid lower cruise fares.  Once, though, I was given a move over offer and the Princess rep assisting me slipped and told me it was to accommodate a group (probably still paying more than me).

The poster that you were asking about, how to volunteer…I would assume they may have volunteered, once OB.  I have heard some at GS saying they would volunteer to move over, if needed.

My only concern with this is where the inside cabin was located.   If the cabn was all the way forward or  aft there is no amount of money offered that  would make me take it.

They first offered me one in the mid deck but it was below the pool and cafeteria. Then there was one that was directly above the casino. The third one, which I took, was further aft but the decks above and below were all cabins, no public areas.

This is my first experience with an inside cabin, so we’ll see how it goes! When I have a window or balcony, I haven’t minded being fore or aft. We shall see!

Congratulations!  Inside isn't as bad as it seems.  The Diamond Princess has plenty of open deck areas to hang out.  Like you said, you could camp out at the Sanctuary all day, provided that you can get reservations.  Another thing to consider is to put your refund towards another cruise.

Congrats!  Glad you were able to get in a quiet inside.
Just keep thinking, you’ll get another cruise out of this!

The thought of being in an inside cabin has brought on all kinds of anxiety when we’ve considered it before. Not crippling anxiety- I can deal with lifts for a short time for eg. But still true panic when considering length of time spent in a cabin without windows. not just feeling a bit uncomfortable.

but the thought of getting an almost 100% refund on our 16nt pricey Greenland & Iceland cruise next year??

To enable the whole family to go away again not having to worry as much about the cost-

well, there is nothing like a free holiday to motivate 😂

I’d certainly know for sure if I could do inside again.

seriously though. What an amazing offer. I’m really pleased that although you had a guarantee balcony you got to choose where your inside cabin was. Brilliant!

Demi, Supervisor,Commercial Operations facilitated our move over last month. dmihalovich@princesscruises.com

as mentioned earlier the cheque envelope looks like cheap junk mail. The return address is from

c/o Bottomline Technologies,Paymode-X

For Princess Cruise Line Ltd

I believe don't ask don't get. Go for it.

Did you just call in to PCL to volunteer or did you ask OB?

Just curious.
Doesn’t look like you are the poster who volunteered.
We were called by PCL in Santa Clarita and asked if we could move over/downgrade and given a choice of 3 cabins.

We were contacted four days prior to our Alaska cruise asking to move over to another date. Our choice within two years. 100% refund as a refundable OBC, all out of pocket expenses (hotel). We booked a later cruise which worked much better for us. The cabin we chose was less money and they refunded the difference within two days. Also our excursions had increased and the difference was added to our OBC.

A total win for us. Except with so much OBC we spent more time in the casino than we should have.

You could also bid for an upgrade . Might get it for a few hundred $. My daughter did on her move over cabin.

Ours was not a bid, so they did not pick us. What happened was I watched how the cabins were selling,, through different venues and noticed that they were over-sold and have been asking passengers to move over. Called my agent and had her contact Princess that the four of us in two balcony cabins were willing to share a cabin if they can find one for us and make room for somebody else, if the incentives were attractive enough. That was how we ended up with a free cruise for all four of us to our surprise. I don't think that happens too often though.

Excellent news!  We’ve taken move over offers a couple of times and really enjoyed the free cruises that we got.  I always keep my fingers crossed to get one of those emails.
