Not Happy with Assigned Boarding Time

Give feedback on the post-cruise survey. Celebrity should be enforcing arrival times. I've sailed other lines that won't even let you enter the terminal building far ahead of the arrival time.

The thing is, Celebrity is not checking you in.  The person checking you in at the cruise port are employees of the said port in Florida, they don't care what your arrival time is, they just want to process you, and get the next person processed.

Midnight for what time zone?  Your own time zone or Miami time or ship time zone?

It is Midnight time in the port of embarkation.    I was able to do Check-In for our Singapore Cruise at 9:00 AM (PDT) the day before (there's also a date line).

For a Florida Cruise I can check in at 9:00 PM PDT.

I read and understand that people show up early and are able to "SNEAK" through.   They have staggered checkin time for a reason, to avoid bottlenecks for those that do have earlier check-in times.

I guess in today's society people don't like to follow rules  and then like to flaunt it.    They are also often are the same people that complain that others aren't following dress codes etc.  No fingers pointed just what comes to mind when I read of so many thumbing their nose at rules.

To me it is wold be like when the begin boarding an airplane and everyone runs for the gate and pushes their way past called boarding groups.  Chaos...

I agree, society is sad.

People arriving whenever they want  and expeting to cut line is just another sign of our  "ME Society".  Do what is convenient  for you and don't worry how it could inconvenience someone else.  The rules are for others and not for you.  I understand that if you have a later checkin time and an early flight you may not want to hang around the airport a few hours, but find something else to do or sit and wait until it's your time or the line is gone.  Assigned times are for reason.  Respect the time and respect the other passengers.

I'm not sure that you can blame the "Me Society" as much as the "Celebrity Society." I'm currently in the middle of a 14-night TA on Reflection and I've never run across so many self-centered, self-important people on a cruise. And it began with many people ignoring their assigned boarding times. And as reported by another cruiser, this was followed by people attacking the library like locusts and emptying the selves of books walking away with as many as they could hold.

And don't get me started on the people in the buffet. But I saw something this morning that put a smile on my face. It has been exceedingly difficult to find a place to sit down and eat because numerous (and once again, self-centered) people taking up space playing card games at the tables. I've even seen couples playing cards at four-tops and six-tops, oblivious to the people searching for a place to sit down and eat. Finally this morning as breakfast service was ending, I saw an officer going around placing placards on all of the tables which read: "Dear Valued Guest, We kindly request that you refrain from playing cards during our service time. It allows us to provide you and other guests with the best dining experience possible. We want you to fully immerse yourselves in the delightful ambiance and savor every moment of your culinary journey with us. "

I'll be curious to see what, if any, effect that has on the inconsiderate card players going forward.

My guess is it will have NO effect.  Please come back and let us know.

Assigned boarding toimes are there for a reason.

I'm sure they are and I respectfully urge you to abide by yours if that's how you feel.  But when they aren't enforced, that reason seems to be of less importance.

As I have said...I prefer to show up when I am ready to show up.  If they make me wait, that's fine and the wait time is on me.  If they let me on, then my cruise begins earlier.

And the fact that your presence at an unscheduled time causes other people to wait longer than necessary is of absolutely no concern to you whatsoever, right?

We arrived at 10:45 for an 11:30 boarding time at FLL.  Nobody asked about our boarding time.  We checked in and then sat in a holding area until the benches filled up.  Then we were escorted on the ship as a group.  Got on board in approximately 25 minutes from curb to martini bar.

Similar experience at Rotterdam boarding Apex.  Check in time was 12:30, but we got there around 11 because we have to take a cab from Amsterdam and the cab was driving quite fast without traffic.   I thought we will just go inside and wait but no one asked for check in time or names and we just got all way to the counters.  And they didn't care about check in time either, and we boarded before 11:30.

As I said, if I (along with the hundred(s) of others that arrive when they choose) am asked to wait, I will wait.  Since check-in isn't based on the honor system, and there are people checking you in, it's up to them to enforce it. If those people who do the checking in aren't instructed to enforce boarding times, then it becomes a suggestion, and not a mandate.

Have you ever been on a cruise where boarding times were enforced?  I have not.

I have. Shortly after the restart there were Tensa barriers creating separate check-in lines based on assigned time outside the port in Miami. It seemed to work pretty well. It avoided a lot of frustration.

Then it sounds like they can implement that when they feel the need, and those who show up too early can wait.

Yesterday was the first day we were allowed to complete boarding passes for our Nov 22 cruise on the Beyond.

Upon completion we were asked to select a boarding time and the earliest was 1:30 t0 2:00.

Kinda disappointed that this is the earliest available esp since we completed docs as early as possible.

Is it possible to change to earlier?

What happens if we show up earlier...will we have to sit and wait?

What happens if traffic is heavy and we are later than 2:00?

Check in earlier next time and not 17 days after check in began. The only person to blame for this late time is you. Sorry if that hurts but it's also the truth. All of that being said, I haven't seen Celebrity check anyone's time in my dozen or so cruises in the last two years so show up when you want and roll the dice. I booked a super last minute cruise last year and when I checked in, the only time available was 2-2:30. When I checked again at 1am the day of boarding, I saw an 11-11:30 available and just changed it via the app.

I took my nephew on a Royal Cruise in early '22 and they had about 3 queues for different time slots. We unfortunately got there early because I am used to Celebrity and we were forced to wait outside for almost 2 hours.....it sucked Royally.....pun intended!

As I said in an earlier post :

** By 1pm, anyone whose boarding time was later, was removed from the queue.

While this is true, there's always options. One option would be to put an X employee outside the terminal at the door and have them control the entrance. That's what Disney does at Port Canaveral, and it works well. They set up queue barricades outside the door with multiple queues with the next three port arrival times. Guests are checked before they enter the queue. They let those queues in at the appropriate time.

Here's your answer, lol. Lunch started at 12:00 and I took this photo a few minutes ago at 12:15, but before doing so, I stood nearby to make sure she spoke (and by inference read) English. The placard is right in front of her.

ETA: I should note that there is also a line item in today's edition of the daily newsletter that the Opus Main Dining Room is open from 10:15am until 3:45pm specifically for "Board Games & Playing Cards."

But I guess that rules and requests don't apply to the typical self-centered cruise passenger.

WOW!!!   I wish I could say I am surprised.  Thanks for the update.  It is hilarious seeing them doing this with the sign still on the table, LOL.
