Does anyone have a price list for the spa treatments and gym classes on Explora please? Lots of brochures online but no prices. Also any feedback from anyone who has indulged would be really appreciated.

A related tale.  Last month, we met an Aussie gentleman (while enjoying a whisky in the whisky bar) who told us that he likes to have a daily massage.  When we boarded EJ1, in NYC, for an 18 day cruise, he went to the Spa to make arrangements for a daily 1 hour massage.  When they quoted him $4320 Euros for the massages, he told them he did not want to buy the ship, but only wanted massages.  He finally did meet with the spa manager and was able to work out a slightly discounted rate. He did tell us that the massages were excellent.

I was just sent the same price list for our upcoming cruise and needless to say I replied “no thank you”.  We are sailing to Cartagena, where one of the best 5* hotels in South America offers 1 hour massages at the equivalent of $80 CAD.  Contrast that with the cheapest massage on the ship at 220 EUROS which is about $320 CAD…. 4 x the price… I do realize (and have paid) that there is a premium for the convenience of going to the spa on the ship but 4x the price of a 5* hotel?!!! Insane and definitely not in keeping with the rhetoric, “we are not a cruise….”

Just curious if the spa is empty and excursions being cancelled on board? There may be some who are happy to pay these prices but we will not be booking “add-on” experiences at these prices.  One of the reasons we have embraced the luxury segment in cruising is so that we can pay what we agree to and then not have to think about money again.  It’s less about what you “can pay” than it is about not being made to feel you are just a walking dollar sign to the company and the people serving you.  For me anyway it takes away a lot of the enjoyment.

Just left the spa and it was very busy. I lived my massage and the wellness area is amazing. Most resorts I have been to spa services charge the equivalent so I am used to it. Yesterday, there was a good group size for one of the excursions as well.

We had a 22-1 massage today and it was empty. I don't know where everyone is SLspending their OBC. I had pedicure, massage and DH  a massage. Still have $$ oops make that Euros left.

I know there were five of us this morning at 8 am. Around 9:30 there were about 9-10 people in the wellness area. I am sure it is time dependent as well. I few people I spoke with have gone twice or earlier in the week. I hope you enjoyed!

I’m curious if they offered any discounted spa services for port days in the daily’s perhaps, as other cruise lines do.

Their daily is a one sheet, with zero advertising for shops, casino, or spa.

As Paul said, there was no mention in the short daily program, but we did come across this "port day" special when we were visiting one of the larger cabins.  We didn't see this in our OT cabin, so it may have been a targeted promo or just overlooked in our cabin, but perhaps it was also available at the spa. On some lines we've sailed they can put a discounted package together if you are having a few treatments, and from this promo it sounds like Explora might.  I did not have any of the spa services, but the free "thermal suite" area is great.  Like some things with Explora you have to dig or ask around compared to other lines.

Thanks for the info. Regardless of if they have port day specials it’s nice to know the thermal areas are available to all. We will be in a OT suite. Does the thermal areas include dry sauna, steam and hydro pool as well as outdoor relaxation deck?

Yes to all, plus there is a salt room and heated chaises.  Nicely designed space.  Here’s a few pictures of the thermal area from after we boarded and were exploring the ship.

My understanding is that the complimentary use of the spa facilities is only during certain times, early am and after 6 pm. Did you find this to be true?

On port days it was all day, and in general they seemed pretty relaxed about timing (maybe because it was a less than half full ship).

We indulged in a massage….only because we had a lot of obc. While the massage was nice I’ve had better ones. It was at best average and it would have been disappointing if we had to actually pay. Even worse was the $140 pedicure where you sit in uncomfortable chair with your feet in a bowl or in the manicurist lap! Most of people you see clogging the spa area are there to use thermal area.

*** I did notice although tips are included they do linger afterward we felt (we could be wrong) they were expecting a tip.
