LIVE from the SUN Princess - 9 Mar 2024 - 10-Day Mediterranean - Second Voyage

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Abbey,  The price for the Thermal Suite for the length the cruise can vary, possibly depending on the itinerary, length voyage, etc...  I have heard some mention that the pass for their 10 day voyage was about $200. or about 20.00 per day.  (do not remember if this was specific to the Sun?)

The price for a 5 night/day voyage seems to be $123.  if I am remembering correctly.

Day passes do not seem to be available before boarding...  perhaps these are on a first-come-first-served basis each day, depending on how many of the cruise duration passes are sold.  I have heard that the Thermal Suite is available (supposedly) for up to a certain limited number of guests.  This means that you might not be able to book a day pass until the day after boarding, the first full day of the cruise.

I hope to hear more about this from those who are sailing the Sun Princess!!!

This new ship could have their own unique system!

That ship has literally sailed unfortunately - we saved and saved for that stateroom and did really cheap cruises last year only for it to end up in disappointment.  Was going to try later this year but my work commitments have stopped that.

Thanks for still being part of the Sun experience. Have you thought about the Star next year?

My other half is not keen - doesn't have the same pull as could be just a clone. His absolute favourite was Majestic because it had so many differences. Mind you, I managed to get him on the Sky inaugural and we booked the original Enchanted inaugural lol

True. But the Sky was a little different from the Royal.

We were on the 7-day inaugural of the Majestic following the 3- and 4-day preview cruises. She was supposed to go to China after the shakedown in the Med, so we figured that was our only chance to sail on her. Then everything changed… you can find the link to my Live in my index.

Yes, we were on the preview and inaugural cruises for Majestic - loved it and led us to starting our blog.

Thanks for the Eatery pictures. Things look familiar. Have there been line ups? Do you have to go down a line at each of the stations or can you just pop in and say,  "I'll have one of those." ?

I haven’t really seen it at peak times but I’ve heard people say there can be a line at the more popular stations.

Obligatory Athens pics.

The setup with water and soda in The Landing. The staff member scans your medallion like any other venue. The fridges are not for passenger use.

The Presidential Mansion. The orange trees are very pretty and nobody picks them because they’re bitter oranges.

We got back at 3pm and there was zero line to board. By 4:30, there was a huge queue stretching outside the terminal building. The X-ray scanners and magnetrons were inside the port building. Nothing to do at the ship but scan your medallion.

Had lunch at Alfredo’s. My favorite dish, the veal-stuffed baked pasta, is no longer available. The Antipasto plate was good. If you ordered a more fancy pizza, it may be better, but I couldn’t tell the difference between the pepperoni pizza here and up on Lido. The Roman-style on deck 9 beats it, in my opinion. The cannoli was a horrible approximation of the cannoli we had in Sicily. One bite was more than enough.

Wow. That is the only reason I like to eat there! Is this fleetwide? We just had it in February on the Discovery. Sad.

@CanadianBurger - Thanks for the updates! I was wondering if you wouldn't mind swinging by the Spa and just taking a picture of the pricing for the Enclave for the per day and per week price. I've seen the pics/videos so no need for more unless you just want to take them, but I'm torn on whether I want the full week pass or the day pass (which I've never bought, thus I don't know the price). I've always done the full week but with the itinerary, I'm not sure I'd get enough out of a full week?!? I love the warm chairs and the thermospa for my aching body.  Thank you in advance!

You can book it through the app! I guess it depends on the length of your cruise; it gives me the option to book two 7-day passes for $149 each. No day passes on the app though.

I stopped by The Catch and Butcher’s Block to get the menus. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think the specialty dining is getting out of hand. I believe Alfredo’s and O’Malley’s are the only two casual dining spots left where you get two meals with the Plus package. I miss Planks.

Exactly. I knew the price for the week but thank you for replying.

What a difference a day makes. Dinner tonight was absolutely perfect. The pasta was excellent, and the pot roast was unbelievably tender and tasty. No knife required. Melted in your mouth. The desserts were to die for, especially the chocolate caramel torte.

Do you need a reservation to book O’malleys or Alfredos?

Hi @CanadianBurger, Cindy here from the 14 day Carribean Circle in December.  You kindly reserved my Sanctuary spot for me when my fligjt was delayed. I'm enjoying your live thread commentary, pictures and learning the ins and outs of the Sun. I'll be  interested in you final summary of pros and cons of this ship. Enjoy!

Great thread with lots of information, thank you for all you’ve shared with us. I saw you verified the aft decks with the stairs are public and accessible. Have you checked out the forward decks as well? It looks like decks 10-14 have doors leading out to them so I was curious.

Thanks vj. I have also been curious about those same forward outside decks on 10-14, as the Oceanview cabins in that location appear to have windows onto those decks.

@CanadianBurger We thought about upgrading from Plus to Premier so we would have unlimited Casual Dining.  I’ve been reading the Patters that you have been sharing (thank you). I’ve noticed that O’Malleys is only open for dinner so that only leaves Alfredo’s for lunch. We will not be upgrading. I thought that with unlimited Casual Dining there would be more venues open for lunch and dinner. SMH.

Also my cabin will be on Deck 5 towards the front left of the boat...is this a fairly "good" area to be in if I'm prone to motion sickness?

You're on the lowest deck of passenger cabins and I will infer you're possibly in an ocean view cabin as well.  This is good since you're low and if need be can look out at the horizon.
