Not everyone likes the 'real and free entertainment'.  We would never go to one of the shows in the theater, Sid's or the Comedy show.

We do like Bingo and my wife loves "Wheel of Fortune'.

I didn`t say that you shouldn`t go there if you like it. If you do,you can go.

I just said, as long as the people are going there although they don`t like it just because there is no other choice then these rip off shows won`t go away.

If in each of these game shows only 20 people are sitting in the theater and no one takes part then these shows will go away. Yes, these 20 people who liked it will be sad but i have the feeling that these people are a small minority.

NCL was famous for their great production shows and fabulous live music. they should be really careful not to lose one of its signature elements on board of their ships.

And if they want to keep all customers happy then they could have these rip off game shows AND production shows on their ships. Instead of 2-3 times the production show each week they could do 1-2 production shows and one rip off game show.

my point remains, not everyone loves those production shows.  There are many of us who couldn't care less if they went away entirely.

There is NO way to keep all customers happy. Zero. Anyone who has read this forum for 5 minutes can realize that.

I’d be happy with the casino being replaced by basically anything else, but how many people would be absolutely livid with that idea?

My opinion is no, it's not worth it, but someone else who won will say otherwise.

We found the show to be terrible and couldn't wait for it to be over. It's designed as a money-maker, pure and simple, just like Bingo, Deal Or No Deal and the pull-apart cards. The odds of winning are insanely low. Each round saw the highest point scorer get a water bottle and the overall highest points earner 'won' a $500 Effy gift card and the on-stage winner got to keep their game winnings in OBC, amounting to $465. I don't know for sure, but I'll bet it was non-refundable and, as it was day 6, they didn't have a lot of time left to spend it! When you consider the on-board markups, they were not really getting a lot. By that token, they sold a lot of cards, ranging from $25 for two, up to $50 for 10, so the whole thing really did come across like a money-making scheme.

As for entertainment value, there was little or none. I guess a more enigmatic Cruise DIrector (we had Roberto) would have improved the experience, but halfway through, my DW apologised to me for making me sit through it!

We had the same experience a few weeks back on Epic. I had written about it in my live review while on board.

Had some OBC to burn through so bought the 10 pack, only to find out it can't be used with non refundable OBC. So that was just an extra charge on our bill and still needed to use up the OBC.

The game froze twice and had to be restarted, then when they finally got contestants up there my screen was locked on my phone for round 1 so I got zero points. Maybe if we were bored and had nothing else to do we would sit in and watch, but never giving them a dime of my money again for that. It was a shame since Price is Right was actually a lot of fun, free to participate, and lots of chances for multiple guests to go on stage and play. Not with wheel. It's a complete dud and will probably be pulled soon if not tweaked. I don't understand why they can't change out the participants each round - that would at least give 12 people a chance to play and win a whopping ~$120 in OBC. What skin is that off NCLs back?

In my review of our trip on the Jade last week, I talked about the failure of this game.

There was a delay of over half an hour due to "technical difficulties", after which they ended up canceling the game altogether. However, the technical difficulties didn't stop them from begging for people to pay to play the game the whole time. Apparently, the suck---I mean players---who contributed money got refunds, but I can't verify it.

Also, the theater was only about a third full...which is an indication of what the cruisers think about this "entertainment" option.

Last night was the first Wheel of Fortune show on Getaway. It was a learning experience for the staff. Overall not a bad show, but doesn’t need to be a main theater attraction. Could easily be done in the atrium it’s like deal or no deal. Theater was only about 1/4 full. Most people on the ship didn’t know it was happening until they got the day 10 daily, we found out during the officers dinner earlier in the week. Fortunately Getaway still has Million Dollar Quartet and Burn the Floor production shows, but for how long?

Price is Right is more of a show instead of a money grab, and can pass for actual entertainment with some of the crazy games you see on tv. I’m interest to see which direction Press Your Luck goes.

I know.

But i dare to say that people like you are the minority.

The majority prefers some non-money making entertainment (e.g. live music, production shows, trivia, etc.) over rip off game shows.

Very important is the "rip off" at the beginning. If it is a serious game show with adequate and noteworthy prices than many people could live with it.

But at the moment it doesn`t seem so.

And if the locations remain jam-packed during the next years...well,then obviously NCL has done something right.

Maybe i should have said "more customers happy"

You are right, making all customers happy is simply impossible.

That’s fair.

On the Epic in November, my wife and I played Deal Or No Deal. She got picked to go up. She had an absolute blast (she used to watch the show regularly), and held out until the end. Some of the audience was cheering her on. We basically broke even between the price of my cards and her cards, and what she won (was like a hundred bucks for both of our cards, and she won about the same). I think we came out a tad ahead, but I can’t remember. In any event, it was a fun hour or two for us.

That said, probably a “one and done” event. We had fun, but been there, done that.

My wife and I go to the Deal or No Deal show but, other than the first time we saw the show, we never buy the cards.  The only person that has a chance of winning anything of real value is the person who gets called up on stage.

How do you know what the majority prefers?

On the Sky a few hundred people showed up for the game shows, the theatre was packed, every seat taken, for the Beatles and Queen tribute.  An indication.  Even the female vocalists had many more fans than Deal or No Deal.

10% full on mine, only 7 players signed up so they had to cancel (minimum is 20). They did reattempt it a second night, at least wedged in between the comedy act, but I didn’t bother the second go round to see if it got off the ground or not.

Just got out of elements, it was fully packed with the requisite standing ovation. Of course there’s a second showing.

I really feel like this time the guests are voting correctly and in unison. I just wish upper management had been on my cruise, a true indictment. At the very least they need to shuttle this to the bliss lounge or equivalent at 3PM on a Sea day and get it out of the main theater.

I really don’t feel like it is sticking around though, both from lack of interest and from guest issues. They are at least going to get metrics on paid uptake and not be impressed.

I’m not one for basing reality sheerly on anecdotes, but 7 versus 1000+ being the differential on Wheel versus Elements is pretty damning.

Now Price of Right is a Production show and is very, very popular. Wheel of Fortune is Bingo adjacent that landed in the wrong venue at the wrong time.D950631A-5C98-4418-9CE7-7B81DC6E5DC2.thumb.jpeg.6178a8bcc335c670510c0a963e45a2c2.jpeg

Exhibit B here - catching up on the Sun's entertainment via an excellent trip report -

looked pretty bad, sad ... short of being, pathetic - look at the 3 photos from Post # 807
