Advice on best way to proceed/options re change in people who can cruise

Recommended Posts

So best laid plans...we had planned a family cruise getaway for me, DW and two adult sons for early June (we are way past final payment date). As of today, it looks like both of our sons will have unforeseen commitments that will prevent them from coming on the cruise.  Can I get some advice thoughts on my options?

As I see them,

1) Cancel but with loss of 50% of cruise fare (about to go to 75% in a few days) as my insurance does not include a cancel for any reason clause

2) Change booking to just me and DW (but I believe I risk repricing for just two sailing -is that correct)

3) Name change the 3rd and 4th passenger (seems unlikely in our situation as not sure there is anyone else we would want sleeping in same room as us)

4) Continue with booking as is and have 3rd and 4th just likely no show (Is there any downside to this?  This seems like best way to proceed for me right now as it leaves the glimmer of hope that one or both of their situations change and they can cruise--again am I missing any downside?)

Thanks

#4 is probably your best option.   If they are "no shows" the port fees and taxes along with any items pre-purchased on cruise planner would be refunded.

Does this include the Deluxe Drink package and the Dining Plan?  We have one that might "no-show" for our cruise and we have these items booked for him so I have been wondering what to do about those.

Yes, you could leave those purchases as is for now and cancel them no later than 72 hours pre-cruise.

Refund maybe a little quicker to do this instead of waiting for royal to do on their own when processing a no show guest.

So, I could leave them in place and if he is a "no-show" Royal will refund the Drink Package?  This is my biggest concern as there is another person in the cabin with the Drink Package so not sure I can cancel it before hand without canceling the other individual.

How about emailing mbayley@rccl.com and ask them for help.  Wouldn't be surprised if the staff wouldn't have ideas.

Oops!  Ignore this.  Wrong place

Yes they will refund Drink pkg for no shows.

Yes, you will need to leave Drink pkg on the reservation for the possible no show person if there is another adult in the same cabin with Drink pkg.

Thank you so much for the answers - that's one less thing I have to worry about.

I'm sure you probably looked into this, but just in case.. if your sons have to cancel for work reasons, there are (or at least used to be) insurance policies that covered a work situation.  If you haven't checked the policy, and they're cancelling for work, you might be able to file a claim.

Outside of 30 days you might be able to get a refund for passengers 3 and 4. @Ourusualbeach can confirm.

Yes as third and 4th guests have a different cacellation policy however you risk being moved to a double occupancy room and repriced.

If they cancel only the fourth guest would they be apt to get a bit of money back with little risk of being moved or repriced?
