Design a Princess ship: Let's have some fun

I believe they have resolved my wishes with the Sphere class. Larger showers with glass doors and no tubs, sofas, and lots of electrical outlets. Deeper balconies would be nice as well. Drop the charge for Alfredo's. It's only pizza! Lower the noise level in the piazza.

I don't know if I will ever sail on a Sphere class ship though. Definitely not in one of those goofy Cabana mini suites. What a waste of space!

You are SO right!!!   On our upcoming sailing, all categories from interior to Deluxe Balcony and Mini-Suites are almost sold out...   NOBODY is booking those cabana deck deluxe balconies. (aka pretend mini suites).  Most of them are sitting un-booked.

Princess night just find out what a huge mistake they made with this one.

On the larger ships, Princess needs to open up the public center area and have it span a longer distance.  The Piazza looks too crowded and cramped on the Sun Princess.  Royal Caribbean pioneered this with their Royal Promenade concept and it really works to disperse the crowds.  Carnival followed suit on their Excel Class and it works.

I am not sure about this one...  The thing we enjoyed when we first started sailing Princess was the Piazza.  They could change the design a bit...  and limit the louder entertainment...  (one hour per night....).   But, we totally enjoy the concept of the one centralized attractive Piazza, with comfortable seating, etc.

IMHO, just from photos and videos... it seems that the big open Piazza on the new Sun Princess has lost the character.  And, really...  another 'screen'....   Is there NO escape.

With no adult only area, we could be considering cancelling our booking on the Sun.

Regal has been one of our favorites....

Changes...  Large Sanctuary.  (they made it smaller on the newer ships)

Find space for another great dining venue.   (NOT a part of the buffet)

All of the other aforementioned things, like the cabins and bathrooms should be more like the Sun.

I do not particularly care for the extra things like rides/spellbound/etc..  when cruising.

Never visit a casino.    I know that this is a money-maker...  but location and smoking issues have to be resolved.

Thanks to everyone who have chimed in (or lurked).  Too many great posts to "like".  Maybe Princess will listen to our requests?  We can always dream.

I wish they would go back to separate dancing areas that don’t involve children running, hopping and generally being a nuisance, you know, just being kids. Yes I understand parents think their little ones are the best, but not everyone does.

Here is my wish list:

 - International cafe is brilliant - just add a green salad option.

 - Full, open Promenade - on a low deck.

 - (enough) Sea view Loungers on an open low deck.

 - (Quiet) Library, more than just a bookshelf in the future cruise office.

 - Card/game room.

 - An "if your butts not in it, it's open" enforced policy.

 - Oceans Now delivery that actually delivers somewhere other than your room.  I can tell you 9 places on the Sapphire that it won't. Frankly if I'm at a bar I can order in person.

 - Significantly improved wine by the glass options.

 - Fully enclosed casino for smokers, if you're going to let them smoke inside.  (And I'm fine with Churchill's just close the door.)

 - Staffing/training enough to provide a more "classic?" experience in the main dining room.

 - I want a chocolate on my pillow!

 - The "made up" "premium" desserts are laughable. Much rather have photo download, or ???

 - Free sauna/steam room on the Sapphire was nice. I understand not all ships have that.

 - Lose the self service buffet.  (not the buffet, just people)

 - "Dating myself" old school flambe´dessert  (sea conditions considered)

 - Turn down the volume

 - Smaller ships.

Wrap around Promanade Deck.  Completely, not partially, not mostly.

I completely agree.  My favorite thing to do on a cruise ship is to walk around the promenade deck for miles. That is why I liked Holland America. Unfortunately, they have cut way back on their entertainment.  That is why for my next cruise I will be returning to Princess.

My favorite promenade deck is on the QM2. Three and a half times around is a mile. It also has the classic ocean liner wedding cake design where there is public outside space on multiple decks at the stern. Crystal also has a design like that but its ships are much smaller

A wrap-around promenade! Turn up the volume a bit on the MUTS for movies. Ditch smoking indoors (it's 2024 for goodness sake!). Make sure to include the Irish Bar!

And while we're designing the ultimate Princess ship - can we chuck in a suggestion for the itinerary. Spend more time in the ports! This nonsense of 6-8 hours in a port and then slowly cruising to the next annoys me. Give us longer in each port.. or heck, even overnights in the ports! 🙂

Above anything, get rid of smoking indoors (if I had my way there’d be no smoking anywhere indoors or out where it can waft on to other people and I’m not just talking cruise ships here)

Slightly modified to sense when you are just about to get thirsty, then orders your favorite tipple for you.

Can they set it to beep when they have just put out your favourite cake/cookie in the IC or buffet?

asking for a friend….

That is the Australian way - no smoking indoors on Aussie based Princess ships (and other lines). Just avoid booking aft starboard balconies to steer clear of the waft.

I need some help from the more veteran members of CC.

After seeing the title to this thread, a couple of the useless cells in my brain started to move around. Does anyone remember a college student, I believe he went by MarineArchitect here on CC, that used to post fantastic designs of cruise ships? A few of us always thought he should be snatched up by either a cruise line or shipbuilder. I am wondering what happened to him. This was around 10-15 years ago.

Posted (edited)

A dedicated lounge that is open all the time for Platinum and Elite members. Model it after the Diamond Lounge, now called the Crown Lounge on RC ships.

Totally agree about all inside smoking.  No new ship design for that. A new policy, note in the Princess Patter and signs will take care that, fleetwide.

From me - no room available for rock climbing walls and water slides.

I agree. I would prefer to have a dry ski slope instead

And the UK.

the one thing I don’t like about sailing on Princess and other US based ships. The smoke in the casino 🤢 I don’t even play BUT the smell travels out of the casino and if I need to walk through it, it’s horrid.

I’m sure they think that as it’s the only indoor place you can smoke it keeps smokers by the machines playing more. But I think we are at a point, in 2024, where it puts off more people than it keeps there

In the uk we’re just not used to it I guess. Smoking is banned in all indoor places. All hotel rooms, all pubs and restaurants, everywhere

One "Quiet Zone" lounge, preferably the panoramic Crows Nest type, that doesn't give you dawn till dusk inane music blasting from every nook and corner of the ship.

As a neurodivergent person I LOVE this idea. Or at least various lounges having designated quiet times listed in the patter

Or they could offer wireless headphones where you control the volume. I’m not saying make MUTS quiet, and only have headphones, but have enough headphones to help out those who want it louder
