Brooklyn cruise crowd

Recommended Posts

I was on last week of January and didn't notice any smells. And I can smell everything.  Rudeness was anything like the one 2 weeks prior with the fruit fiasco. I did keep a watchful eye and not give in to line cutters on buffet or elevators. This was after they got me trying to help someone with a wheelchair that had been waiting patiently.  All bets off when I see that crap.

But alot of this can be found on Carnival and Royal too. I can't say anything for NCL, but my son saw his share of the pot vaping when he last sailed.

move up to YC.  had well behaved kids, one was maybe 5 or 6, no issues. and it's just a fun place to be especially with the pool buffet. it's a wonderful place to be! we never have sat on any pool deck on any ship. just dont like that crowd no matter who makes it up. but i understand to most people being at the pool is the holy grail of cruise life. we did walk the deck once since it was our first Mera trip. seemed like every other cruise line.

my only real bad memory is at customs after we got off the ship one woman wanted to block the lane to wait for people behind her and the agent told her she cant wait there then they got into it really bad. . the passenger was definitely an inconsiderate person. it was a choke point and to stand there with luggage would be stupid. probably dangerous.

on the ship the only 'anomaly' i noticed is more of i think french speaking people. never remember so many on any cruise ive taken.

regarding here and on other forums, the super negative crazy passengers is just something i never noticed. maybe in september ill enter the buffet just to see what it's like. seems like a fascinating experience (insert mister spock eyebrow look here)

Ok, so I just saw a video of rowdiness on board recently. It was apparently a bartender on board pouring shots straight down passengers mouths leaning over the bar counter.

this is full-on, spring-break “girls gone wild”-level stuff. Not only that, it’s a health hazard to be sharing the same spout, and there was NO wiping it in between

Anyway, I’m not going to let that kind of horseplay ruin my cruise, and I wouldn’t be the one to say anything to food & bev, but SOMEONE should have

Was this on the Meraviglia? I would hope since it was posted online, someone at MSC would see it and discipline the bartender.

I will check it out next week when I am on board and see if it is a regular occurrence.

i really hope it isn’t, it was the epitome of hooliganism, I thought I must have been watching a video on carnival

Just because it's on the internet doesn't mean it is true.  In my over 30 cruises on practically every mainstream line, the majority being out of NY, I have never seen anything like this.  I think you are already in danger of ruining a big part of your cruise, the anticipation, with your worrying and over thinking.  Relax, breath and just try to enjoy looking forward to your vacation.

Just relax and enjoy your cruise. If something is not affecting you why bother?

i request cruisecritic apply AI so when anyone asks if shorts are allowed in the MDR or YC, that AI automatically inserts your quote 🙂

Inquiring minds want to know. How was your cruise?

LOVED IT!!! Yes there was probably a bit more F-bomb and N-word music than I would have liked at the late night club, and I’m also not used to being on such a ridiculously packed ship but all in all it was a great cruise, I am looking forward to MSC again! I will hopefully post a review at some point

- pro’s: non-stop activities and parties and a younger crowd,

gorgeous ship, aft balcony cabin was spectacular, awarded everyone $200 OBC bc of late port arrivals (OBC eligible for casino spend), water and red bull included in drink package, lots of good cho’s in the theatre (probably saw about 6 different ones, sat front row centre each time), status match gold with NCL platinum, plenty of lounge areas in the main chandelier area and concourse to watch the parties if you don’t want to get into the crowd, app was generally good for chat and bookings, value for dollar was almost unrivalled in all my cruises, 2x day full room cleaning

- con’s: very busy, cruise staff seemed unengaged at times, not The kind of crew that remembers names, not a great variety in the buffet, pizza was good but sometimes hard to self-serve, (but all food was generally good), floors were humid and slippery in too many places, no free food on room service, weak solo traveller meetups and awkward seating for solo eaters, truly difficult finding seating in the buffet at times, less line dancing than other cruises, spa didn’t feel too clean and lacked tranquility, paper menus and dailies were a challenge to request, TV channels were poor, elevators too busy and slow and no aft elevators, free ice cream hours were limited

Glad to hear you had a good time! I have definitely had staff remember my name many times on MSC, but I definitely tend to get into a routine and go to the same bars/lounges at the same times every day. I think the solo traveler meet-ups are very sailing-dependent. I have had both good and bad luck with them on MSC. What do you mean by "awkward seating for solo eaters"? Do you mean table assignments in the MDR?

What was as the reason you were late on your cruise? Lots of pot and doors constantly slamming this week on Meraviglia.

Thanks for the write-up. I always appreciate hearing from someone that provides both sides of their experience with actual examples.

Can I ask what experience you had (Bella, Fantastica, etc) and your seating arrangements? I ask because as a solo traveler I was sat alone at a two-seat table (my preference) my first two times when I had Fantastica and I was sat at an 8-top my last cruise when I was Bella and it was awkward for a number of reasons. No idea if it was related to my "experience" or just coincidence. I am on a casino comp in September, but upgraded to Fantastica; will ask the maitre d' to change my seating or will just use the buffet if they stick me at an 8-top again.
