shoreguy Posted May 13, 2006 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2006 I just got an email with a link to itinerary options for the Gem. It seems they are focused on 7 day Florida and Bahamas. The real question which of the following whoud you choose. Foe me give me a 10/11 day but I selected option 1. In the Fall of 2007, Norwegian Gem will begin offering a brand new 7-day Bahamas and Florida itinerary sailing roundtrip from New York. The proposed itinerary will feature two popular ports of call - Port Canaveral for a full day visit to Orlando, and Great Stirrup Cay, NCL's private island in the Bahamas. We need your help in determining the additional ports for this itinerary. 4) Please review the following three itineraries and select your preference:* Itinerary Option 1Itinerary Option 2Itinerary Option 3 APortArriveDepartSat.New York , NY--4:00 PMSun.Freestyle Day at Sea ----Mon.Orlando (Port Canaveral), FL10:00 AM9:00 PMTue.Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas9:00 AM4:00 PMWed.Key West, FL9:00 AM 6:00 PMThu.Freestyle Day at Sea----Fri.Freestyle Day at Sea----Sat.New York, NY10:00 AM-- APortArriveDepartSun.New York , NY--4:00 PMMon.Freestyle Day at Sea ----Tue.Orlando (Port Canaveral), FL9:00 AM8:00 PMWed.Miami, FL9:00 AM6:00 PMThu.Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas8:00 AM6:00 PMFri.Nassau, Bahamas7:00 AM 1:00 PMSat.Freestyle Day at Sea----Sun.New York, NY10:00 AM-- APortArriveDepartSatNew York , NY--4:00 PMSunFreestyle Day at Sea ----MonOrlando (Port Canaveral), FL10:00 AM9:00 PMTueGreat Stirrup Cay, BahamasNassau, Bahamas9:00 AM8:00 PM4:00 PMOvernightWedNassau, Bahamas--Overnight until2:00 AM ThursdayThuFreestyle Day at Sea----FriFreestyle Day at Sea----SatNew York, NY10:00 AM-- Option 1 Option 2 Option
bragstarr Posted May 13, 2006 #2 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Yep, hubby and I both got also. Picked option #1 solely on the basis that it included a port day in Key West for a 7 day itinerary, and eliminated Miami and Nassau, both of which I've been to many times! foursum Posted May 13, 2006 #3 Share Posted May 13, 2006 I picked ! also to include Key West. It's a fun place with lots to do.
Cosmopolitan Posted May 13, 2006 #4 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Wish they'd SKIP Orlando and do Key West for 2 days!! I KNOW...Orlando is popular but they could do Key West for 2 days when the kids aren't on holiday and skip Orlando:rolleyes:
DaisyL Posted May 13, 2006 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2006 I picked option 1 with Key West also, just because it's new... been there, done that... with the other options.. Shoreguy, I agree with you on the longer itineraries, we did the 10 day S. Car. 2005 and looking into the 11 day S. Car. April 2007... Once you experience a 10 day, you're hooked.. Having said that, we'll be back on the Dawn -7 day Bermuda/Bahamas next week (booked 3 weeks before). It was cheaper than doing any other local trip; Atlantic City, CT casinos, Lake Placid, Ocean City-MD (our other faves outside of cruises). Bermuda (and the cost) was the determining factor on this cruise over the other cruises offered late May.
annie m Posted May 13, 2006 #6 Share Posted May 13, 2006 We too picked option one. We can't do a 10 or 11 day due to vacation time and the kids in school. I would love them to eliminate Port Canaveral. We wanted to do Bermuda/Bahamas on the Dawn this year but were unable to work it in. The Spirits Thanksgiving cruise last year had a great 8 day itinerary of St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Bermuda and was hoping the Gem would do something like that but we will live with Key West!! tinkerbelldee Posted May 13, 2006 #7 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Great Minds think alike. Key West is a great stop, but I would rather have a day at sea than stop at Orlando.
Planer's Edge Posted May 13, 2006 #8 Share Posted May 13, 2006 I am sorry to see a brand new ship placed in New York. Oh well, maybe they will move the Dawn to Miami so some of the rest of us can try her. PE
Dolphins Posted May 13, 2006 #9 Share Posted May 13, 2006 I am sorry to see a brand new ship placed in New York. Oh well' date=' maybe they will move the Dawn to Miami so some of the rest of us can try her. PE[/quote'] The Dawn is scheduled to reposition to Miami when the Gem replaces her in New York. As for the 7 day options above, none appeal to me. Like Shoreguy, we prefer the 10 and 11 day itineraries currently offered by Dawn.
TBear416 Posted May 13, 2006 #10 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Option 1 for me too. I hope they will still alternate with the 11 day western carib. during the winter months.
claudie Posted May 13, 2006 #11 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Yup, me too for option 1. I've never been to Key West so that's the draw.
seahorse Posted May 13, 2006 #12 Share Posted May 13, 2006 I think that this is great! I would love option 1 too. I hope that they listen to us. NCL cruisers out ot NY that have been on the Dawn IMO are tired of the same old......same old. I wouldn`t do the Gem if it did the same old. B4andAFT Posted May 13, 2006 #13 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Same for us! Option 1 without a doubt. So glad the Gem is coming to NY. I love the Dawn, but we're ready for a change.

Oh well' date=' maybe they will move the Dawn to Miami so some of the rest of us can try her. PE[/quote'] That is the plan - Gem to NYC, Dawn back to Miami for winter 07,08. After that it will be musical ships. just noticed Dolphins already provided the same info.

madelinerose Posted May 13, 2006 #16 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Although none of the itineraries really wow me, I'd choose #1 also. I'm thinking of booking the Gem, as we love leaving from NY and NCL will be our next line to try. shoreguy...Any idea when we'll be able to book the Gem? cruizinwithkids Posted May 13, 2006 #17 Share Posted May 13, 2006 I'm kind of torn. I really like the idea of Key West where I would get off the ship because like so many others I haven't been there; but there are too many days at sea. I like to be in port and stay on the ship when everyone else gets off. Number two, same old, but plenty of days at port. Number three, last choice. Same old but with extra time at sea. logcabin Posted May 13, 2006 #18 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Option 1 for me also. Orlando, you can always find something to do.. GSC bores me. Been there 3 times and that's enough for me. Last time we didn't even get off the ship. Nassau is no big deal. I'd rather see an overnight in Key West and skip GSC...
DroopySails Posted May 13, 2006 #19 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Whew, these are all rather insipid itineraries in our view...guess we'll go with the Spirit if she offers the same or similar southern Carib routes in the future. It does make sense that NCL's two ships in NYC should have markedly different itineraries, and I know a lot of other people will enjoy these options. Carlakuch Posted May 13, 2006 #20 Share Posted May 13, 2006 I choose the number one option as well, having been on the Dawn 2ce and going again, this will be a nice, but small change instead of the usual. I hope a lot of people have chosen this itinerary!
judyf Posted May 13, 2006 #21 Share Posted May 13, 2006 I also voted for Key West but I don't care for the itinerary with Orlando & Miami. Wish they would do something different with the new ship. I also like the 10-11 days sailings the Dawn offers. Glad to see a new ship coming.
QuickieGlenn Posted May 13, 2006 #22 Share Posted May 13, 2006 I too like the idea of Key West. I too like the idea of a 10 day. I don't enjoy to many days at sea. I would like to get to St. Thomas but earlier than 11:00 so we have more time(and not on a Sunday). Orlando is way over rated. I am in a wheelchair and GSC does nothing for me. I also would love St.Martin thrown in there too Thanks
Hatsoff389 Posted May 13, 2006 #23 Share Posted May 13, 2006 I think its great that NCL emailed us all this survey. I picked the Key West itinerary as well. It looks like this ship is going to do Key West going by everybody's responses on here. I think that would be cool. Does anyone know when NCL is going to make bookings available for the Gem? I cant wait to get on her:D
kimdave68 Posted May 13, 2006 #24 Share Posted May 13, 2006 Bring the Dawn to the Port of Baltimore. Gov. Robert Ehrlich has announced a brand new terminal (this is where the POH was docked two weeks ago) so no more dodging trucks flying down Broening Highway. $14M was put into this terminal sends a strong message that (Baltimore) is serious about bringing more ships here. Currently we only have RCI's Grandeur and cruises to both the Caribbean (9 days) and Bermuda (5 days) sell out very, very quickly and prices are HIGH! I checked with my TA regarding a cruise in September of 2007 and only ONE balcony was left! ONE! It was also more than a 14 day (7 B2B) on the Dawn THIS fall. Like I said we desperately need another ship. I'd prefer it to be NCL but I'm sure CCL and X are eyeing it up too. Our bridges over the bay offer 185' of "air draft" so no big ships but that is fine with me. They can keep those 100 kiloton+ beasts. ;)
Cosmopolitan Posted May 14, 2006 #25 Share Posted May 14, 2006 OK...I voted door No. 1 also. But I would prefer an overnight at Key West. No room for comments on the survey:mad: I also prefer a 10-11 day cruise. The way to go:)
