Carnival Secrets they usually don't tell you about

Most all Carnival ships have what they call Fish & Chips restaurant, it's above the Lido deck. You have to walk upstairs to get to it. (Kind of hidden away). But I love their fried "oysters" sandwich. Most people don't know this.
Isn't that just on Conquest class ships?

I consider myself ''green in every way and educated as a botanist and I cannot see how taking a cheese sandwich off the ship (or even an apple for that matter, which you EAT) is going to affect the flora or fauna.

Ever heard of the Mediterranean Fruit Fly?

Impressed with the amount of people who think that there is a charge for room service. Room Service is free.

We were on the Sensation in August and although room service IS free it is posted in the room service book that gratuity is expected.

I had no problem with that but it should not take 1 1/2 hours to get a sandwich and it should be correct the first time. When it was wrong the second delivery person expected gratuity and I just don't feel like I should have to tip twice. I did in fact tip twice but not as much as I did to the first person.

Any suggestions on the proper way to handle this?

Too funny. My wife and I took our first (and only so far...) cruise on the Sensation 13 years ago. One of the things we still talk about is how we ordered room service 3 or so times and they got the order wrong EVERY time. But... the guy showed up ourside our door in what seemed like 2 min from when we placed the order. Fast... but wrong. :)

We never sent it back or tried to get it right. The stuff they did bring us was good enough.

If I had to send the order back, I likely wouldn't tip the second delivery. It's a difficult situation, because I've read that when you don't tip (or leave very small tips), the word gets out and you get slow service. I guess if it happened more than once I'd make a change to my tips...

Uh, I have NO memory card in my phone and I can SAVE pics to the SIM card, take it out and put it in another phone and GUESS what? The pics are there!! Did they magically just appear in the phone? I recently got an upgraded sim card from at&t and was told it would hold more numbers/photos.

actually obsidiansti is correct; you said specifically you're able to take your "sim card" out of your phone and put it in your computer. This isn't possible with any SIM card -- it IS possible with a MicroSD or Memory Stick Micro card, and when present in a phone, pictures ARE typically stored here. The SIM card is very basic memory, just as obsidiansti said, to store small amounts of data, and generally have a capacity of 64-128KB... a fraction of the filesize of the average picture taken with most current camera phones. The SIM card is what AT&T puts into your phone to make it work on your network... you can also put it in any GSM phone (which is either locked to the same network as your provider, or is unlocked) and use your phone number from that phone. Your memory card stores everything else.

I really wish they would have put fish and chips on the Dream.

From what I was reading on John's Blog Thingy, rather than the Fish and Chips they have a "Pasta Station" where you can indicate on a Menu Card all the possible combinations of pasta you want and they cook it right there in front of you.

Not sure if it's "better" than the Fish & Chips, but it definitely gives you a very wide selection of options than a fixed menu.

Still, I'm definitely looking forward to trying the Fish & Ships on the Conquest in January! *grin*

Having tried the fish & chips on 3 different ships and been totally disappointed on each, I don't care if its not on any ship. In each case I found it very, very greasy. MASSIVELY overcooked, and reeking of well past fresh fishy stink!

And I am OFTEN called a Carnival Cheerleader. Some of the offerings were good but the fried fish or squid were AWFUL! And I like both when fresh and done right. I'd say the fish I had on Valor was easily the worst fried fish by a wide margin that I've ever had in my long, long life.

Don't like fish & chips because they are greasy/oily. Guess that is why across the pond it is served in newspaper to absorb all the grease.

Freshly made pasta is more to my liking! Princess had it on the Caribbean Princess when I sailed with them in June. The aroma alone was a treat to the senses!:D

  • 1 month later...

My husband and I are taking our first cruise, for our 10 yr anniversary!! :D (we are taking the Fantasy to the Bahamas)...i've been wanting to go on a cruise since i was a lil girl, so you can imagine my excitement! ...i have LOVED reading all of tips and secrets people have posted. SO helpful, THANK YOU so much!!

I was wondering tho, as i was reading on the Carnival Cruise site, it says something about dinner in one of the restaurants being an extra $30 a person, each nite? What is this? From what I have been reading about all the wonderful food, and the formal attire, it all sounds so wonderful! But is being able to dress up, and eating all that wonderful food in the formal dinning room extra?

No - meals in the Main Dining Room are included - the $30 per person meals are in the specialty restaurant - a steak house not on every ship.

A Lanyard is the curly rope thing they provide in the casio for your Ship Card.

You do have to have it Punched with a hole and put the keyring on it.

So much easier instead of reaching into your pockets for that each time.

If you do buy one on land make sure it does have an easy disconnect so as for safety sake too.

Several posts down, Cotton wrote that in the casino they will give you a lanyard. What is that?

The Fantasy does not have a steak house on it... MDR is "free"... the only food that is for sale is coffee (and ice cream/pastries) at specialty coffee shop and saki when sushi bar is open... well you should tip for room service.
