soohoo Posted July 21, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 21, 2004 What magazines do you enjoy reading? I just got Cruise Travel in the mail today. I enjoy reading about the ships and services (not that this board couldn't fill an entire rack). Stacy
Adamcruises4life Posted July 21, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 21, 2004 Porthole is a good magazine about cruiseships ... I also like National Geographic Traveler and also Conde Nast Traveler ... you get some great information about destinations around the world from those magazines! johnql Posted July 21, 2004 #3 Share Posted July 21, 2004 I subscribe to both Cruise Travel and Porthole. I prefer Cruise Travel. Porthole is ok, but overall I find it glossier with more ads than substantive.
dosi Posted July 21, 2004 #4 Share Posted July 21, 2004 :) Although not specifically cruise related I have learned almost as much from this magazine as I have from these boards.
mii Posted July 21, 2004 #5 Share Posted July 21, 2004 I thoroughly enjoy Cruise Travel. I just renewed my subscription. When I decide where I am going to cruise I will go to the bookstore and find a really good book about the area, like Frommer's etc. Marilyn
RvrCrzr Posted July 21, 2004 #6 Share Posted July 21, 2004 Thanks! I just subscribed to CRUISE TRAVEL for one year. It was less than $10! Can't hardly wait to see the first issue! My next cruise is not for a looooong time, and I need some diversion!
SharkieRools Posted July 21, 2004 #7 Share Posted July 21, 2004 Cruise Travel magazine for me! :)
Rare Coral Posted July 21, 2004 #8 Share Posted July 21, 2004 I have not used this website but came across a subscription to Cruise Travel for $5.95/year: http://www.discountmagazines.com/mag_cat_a_n_1.php
cjh Posted July 21, 2004 #9 Share Posted July 21, 2004 Well I subscribed to Cruise Travel sometime ago and the only issue I've got so far is April. I contacted them but haven't heard anything.

gatour Posted July 21, 2004 #11 Share Posted July 21, 2004 Specific to cruising, I subscribe to Cruise Travel and Porthole. Of the two, Cruise Travel is more like here (the letter's section will give you flashbacks to some of the debates here about formal night attire etc :) ) while Porthole is more fluffy (there Ombudsman section is a joke). In the general Travel category, I subscribe to Conde Naste Travel, and just dropped National Geographic Traveller and Travel and Leisure. I think Conde Nast give the most unbiased opinions and their Ombudsmen section is good. Plus some of their in-depth reports on airport security etc are interesting. I dropped NG Traveller, just because I have hit my limit on keeping up with my magazine reading and while I believe it is relatively unbiased, I don't quite make up its target audience. Travel and Leisure to me is the most biased and influenced my ads. Just look at the articles that are run as compared to the ads in the same issue. Also if you have an AMEX card, there seems to be a correlation with the offers you get that corresponds with the ads that are run.
Rare Coral Posted July 22, 2004 #12 Share Posted July 22, 2004 I receive: Cruise Travel National Geographic Traveler (Travel?) Travel and Leisure Budget Travel Conde Naste --------- I enjoy reading Conde Naste the most - it is pretty unbiased. I also enjoy the Osbudsman section. I do enjoy Cruise Travel but it is awfully thin and only bimonthly. Magazines seem to be only read while on a plane. I save them up and then take them with me when I fly. crusdiva Posted July 22, 2004 #13 Share Posted July 22, 2004 Here's my list: Cruise Travel Porthole Islands NG Traveler Travel and Leisure and... CN Traveler - which has a very interesting article this month on cruising. It's in the "Stop Press" section. Yikes! A half a dozen travel magazines...I swear I don't know where I find the time.... ;) Sharon
Pam in CA Posted July 22, 2004 #14 Share Posted July 22, 2004 I subscribe to Cruise Travel, Cruise Critic's newsletter and my favorite, Cruise News Daily (www.cruisenewsdaily.com), which I highly recommend. You get a cruise news fix every single weekday in your mailbox. Can't beat it!
Rare Coral Posted July 22, 2004 #15 Share Posted July 22, 2004 I forgot about Cruise News Daily! Definitely the one I read all the time.
Druke I Posted July 22, 2004 #16 Share Posted July 22, 2004 I currently receive Cruise Travel, Porthole, and National Geographic Traveller. I enjoy Cruise Travel and Nat. Geo. Traveller, but plan to let my subscription to Porthole expire - I find it too glossy, and too many non-cruise related articles and adds. I gave up on Conde Nast years ago - too slick for my tastes. Forgot about ITN (International Travel News) - we enjoy that also. Michael
neildean Posted July 22, 2004 #17 Share Posted July 22, 2004 I enjoy International Travel News. They have a few cruise related articles (this month has one about Star Princess), but most of the articles are about land based vacations. They'll send you a free issue so you can get an idea if its for you prior to subscribing. http://www.intltravelnews.com Neil
