Is there loud music all over the ship on Celebrity?

Questioner

Recommended Posts

I was talking to some about cruising the other day and she told me she would never return to Celebrity because there was loud music everywhere on the ship. Not just at the pool but in the casino, dining room, buffet, and in other ships public areas. She said it was mostly loud rock music and very offensive. She was in her 70s so may be more affected but as some over 30, I do not want loud music all over the ship 24/7 either.

On our most recent cruise, I did notice music in the Waterfall Cafe, in the late afternoons. I could only hear it because there was hardly anyone in there. If it was playing the rest of the time, I couldn't hear it over the conversations of the other people there.

Normally, it was muzak-type stuff, but one afternoon, it was rap music, which I found amusing, given the average age (pretty old) on our cruise. I certainly felt too old to appreciate it!:)

There was music every night in the dining room (live on formal nights), but again it was not loud rock music, more like gentle string arrangements.

And of course, there is music by the pool, but usually it's not very loud either.

Yes, the poster was talking about Celebrity Cruises. I was surprised and asked her if she meant Carnival, no she insisted it was Celebrity. She told me she complained to the office but they just laughed and said that they were trying to get younger cruisers to book on Celebrity, so they marketing people said crank up the music. The front office told her there was many complaints but it was all decided at the corporate office.

Ever notice how loud music is getting in shopping malls and many eating establishments?

I will have to agrre with the others. On 9 cruises, I've never heard loud music all over the ship. Disco yes, but you want it there. In the evening in Rondezvous Lounge music at a nice level when the entertainers are there. The only music I hear in the casinos is from the slot machines. As to the pool area, it's a little loud when the band is playing, but that is an hour here and there, not all the time.

She is either confused or was on a different line. X is so concerned about keep unnecessary noise down, they have one announcement a day and it's at noon when the captain address where the ship is and the weather.

In the words of Captain Lekkas, Galaxy, Bye for now.

The only place I'd think "loud" music was being played was at the pool for about an hour and a half each day. And I say that because that's the only place I really noticed the music. Other than beautiful soft string music during dinner.

Was she talking about the "shows" in the lounge. There, of course, sound was really pumped up. I noticed some pax turning down their hearing aids :)

The lack of loud p.a. announcements and annoying music is why my husband and I enjoy Celebrity. Hmmm...I don't get it.

I often find that those not close to the cruise industry confuse Celebrity with Carnival. In name only of course. We are sailing on Galaxy this Friday and a friend was asking me which cruise line we were taking. I responded "Celebrity" and her comment was, "Isn't that a bit of a party ship? I hear they get a lot of college kids?" I said, "Are you sure you're not thinking of Carnival?" She said, "Oh yes, Carnival is the party ship, my mistake".

I have only been on 4 cruises, NCL, Celebrity, P&O and Princess and of all these we found Celebrity to be the most sedate in terms of loudness of music. It is also the only one of the 4 without a conventional nightclub disco so to have drawn such a comment is extremely odd. It has been the quietest line we have sailed with and we actually think it could easily turn up a notch.

Questioner "Are you making general enquiries about noise levels on cruise ships and are hoping to find out here about how the music levels are viewed ?"

The music on Celebrity has never been loud - at least for the 3 cruises I have taken with them. In fact, I sometimes find the music not loud enough - could barely hear the music they were playing on our recent cruise - you actually had to be right on the pool deck to hear it. I would have liked to have heard the music on the Skydeck.

I've been on the Mercury twice and never had a problem with loud music. As others have posted the only loud music is in the afternoon by the pool. It was great for walking off those incredible meals :D

Questioner,

I was talking to some about cruising the other day and she told me she would never return to Celebrity because there was loud music everywhere on the ship. Not just at the pool but in the casino, dining room, buffet, and in other ships public areas. She said it was mostly loud rock music and very offensive. Loud music in public areas?

In nine Celebrity cruises, there are only a couple places on the ship where I have heard loud music.

>> 1. On a couple of my cruises, the music (?) in the disco was much louder than it should be. On one cruise, it was so loud that it one could not carry on a conversation in the stair and elevator landing three decks below the disco. It should be loud enough so you can hear it without straining, but not so loud that you have to yell to carry on a conversation in that room.

>> 2. On a couple of my cruises, the sound system in the Celebrity Theater was much louder than it should have been during the production shows.

>> 3. Once or twice, I have heard loud music in the pool area. But, as another poster noted, the party band plays there for only an hour or two at a time.

But I have never heard excessively loud music in any other area of any Celebrity ship.

I know that "Celebrity" and "Carnival" are not all that similar, but for some reason many people do confuse them. When I hear somebody make a statement about either line that seems so totally incongruous, I ask the person to name the ship. In most cases, the person will name a ship of the other line.

Again, ask her which ship. Chances are that she will name one of Carnival's tubs.

I go to the malls quite often, and have not noticed a change. In fact, the malls around here (New England) are trying to discourage young people from congregating in groups. Here's a typical "TXT" on changeable signs in the local malls intended to communicate the new policy:

U YELL

U CUSS

U GROUP 5+

U R OUT

And the mall security people are enforcing this.

I have noticed louder music (?) in a few chain restaurants. The message is clear. They obvioiusly do not want my business, so I take my business elsewhere with pleasure.

I am not fan of Carnival by any means, but even there I don't remember loud and offensive music EVERYWHERE. In fact I only remember music by the pool for a couple of hours during the day.. and not that exciting. I was expecting more fun from fun company Carnival.. :D

Costest,

Hmmm, they have music in the dining room??? I recall pool music - live - but don't recall much noice anywhere else. Might be time to look into a hearing aid.

Yes, Celebrity often has some kind of music in the dining room during dinner, especially on the "formal" evenings but often on other evenings as well. It may be a string enseble or a classical pianist or perhaps on occasion a classical guitar, but it's the same sort of subtle background music that you might find at a classy restaurant. And in reality, many people are not conscioius of it because it's never loud enough to interfere with normal conversation.
