Cruising With A Service Dog....everything You Ever Wanted To Know!

WooooHoooo Orson!!!! Luckily for Orson, Den didn't screw up!! ;)

Your so right Cindy! Luckily for us, they did the test at CCI in the hallways. So it was a watered down version of what they usually do at the mall. I even think Ocho could have passed the test. :D

When we retested 2 years ago, we had to drive to NH and they tested us at a senior center. Like you, it was kind of a quick version of the test they do at the malls. It was great!

How is the lovely Bella? Would love to see a photo of the "grown up" puppy girl! :)

Bella is getting to be a big girl. She is a somewhat bigger version of the same breed that Valentine was, a Japanese Chin just a little bigger with 100 percent more energy! I would love to show her off but i just can't get the hang of posting them. They either come out too tiny or too big to post. I'm just not too good on computers!

Thank you for posting information about cruising with a service animal. We just returned from a four day cruise aboard the Carnival Fascination out of Jacksonville with my husband's seeing eye dog.

We found the crew of the Jacksonville Cruise Terminal to be FANTASTIC! As soon as we walked into the terminal they immediately met us, walked us though the entire process and escorted us to the ship.

We then were handed off to a Carnival customer service representative on the ship. They too were absolutely fabulous. This rep escorted us to the customer service desk to make sure we had all of our paperwork, then escorted us to our room to drop off our bags and then escorted us to the relief area that was created for our dog.

The crew for the entire cruise were WONDERFUL. They were so excited to see a dog on board as it made them miss their dogs at home. Everyone was exceptional. The hostesses in the dinning room were great (We choose open table seating). They were always sensitive about where they seated us to make sure it was comfortable and with plenty of room from Brody. We even visited the spa for services and they too were wonderful with him.

Our dog Brody did great on the ship. We will definitely cruise with him again. I have included a picture of the relief area that was provided. It wasn't Brody's favorite, and he was glad to get to 'real' grass but he was a trooper and managed just fine.

We highly encourage cruising with your service dog. The crew told us that they had not seen a dog in over 6 months and others said they had never seen as service dog on any of the cruise ships.

We look forward to trying other Carnival ships and other cruise lines however we were completely satisfied with the Carnival Fascination as they exceeded our expectations.

Just a note to say Hi to all of you and hope that all is well.

Roz----Hope Morey is doing better.

I am up in Homosassa. I came up last week to see a friend and when I got here, they had just taken her to the hospital, she had a stroke. So, I have been running back and forth from my sons to Hospice. they don't think that she is going to make it. We had so many things to do, when I visited, now I sit and keep her company for most of the day.

Prayers are still headed to all of you that need it and I am thinking about you. Now we need some prayers for Mae.

Cindy---My sons dog makes me think of Wex---same kind of dog but brown and also so sweet. Not a service tho. Any word of Johns surgery yet?

Just wanted to say, don't have much time for the computer tho.

Just wanted to let you know I am thinking of all of you.

Bobbi: Welcome, and thank you so much for sharing your wonderful cruise experience onboard the Fascination with us. I'm so happy to hear that Brody was treated [as he should be] like a king!

Isn't cruising with your Service Dog so much fun? And, it looks like your pottybox set-up was perfect. It also sounds like you'll be doing it again. I hope we get to meet onboard one day.

The cruise ships are so smart to treat we, who walk with a Service/Working dog, very well. Most folks love dogs and are so impressed to see a Service Dog in action.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful experience with all of us.

Trudy, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. It's absolutely devastating to watch someone you care about in this condition.

Morey is not doing so well.......it's very difficult for me to even type this. He's taken several steps backwards because of certain brain "miss-firings" from his stroke, Morey is suffering with some dementia. Here's a very bright and articulate man who is so "stuck!" I love being with him but I leave him bawling like a baby all the way home in my car! It's exhausting!

He's refusing all medication and testing now and with his diabetes and high blood pressure it's been a nightmare for the hospital to take care of him. We have to get a court order to make sure he gets all his meds and he's in a special facility now that will address his needs.

I miss him terribly and I pray that he will come home to me, Brenny and Horty very soon.

Trudy - I am so sorry to read this news of your friend, Mae - I can only send you my prayers and thoughts for you both - I am quite sure Mae will take great comfort from you being with her.

Am I reading your post in that your son has a brown boy lab? We have a brown boy too - very sweet and loving, but totally goofy!

Roz - my Mum and Dad both suffered strokes and it is such a cruel, cruel thing to happen to anyone, so I do understand a little bit of what you are going through - it is truly heartbreaking and I am so sorry that this is happening to your Mr Morey. I continue to send you prayers and thoughts that he will be back home soon with you, Brenda and Horton. Big hugs Roz.

Again Roz, I'm sickened by this news about Morey. I know it's an awful thing to go through, but please remember to take care of yourself too.

Thank you for all your great experience/information. I have been on a cruise when I had vision in 2006. I am legally blind now, enough lost vision that I had to use a cane and just returned home from guide dog school in NY. We are a new team graduating in January. I am going on a disney cruise with my husband and 11 yo son, and my daughter and her new family (two year old twins and newlywed husband). This is technically a honeymoon with one set of parents. I am excited but nervous. I am weighing the pros and cons of taking my GD. I will be with my family the whole time so figured i could use them as sighted guide -I was looking forward to having my dog bond with me more and having the fun experience of cruising. But, there are so many circumstances that I think he would be crated like on excursions and Bahama Islands as their laws are significantly different than US-. I guess I am trying to figure out if the work or benefit to him/me is enough for the work. Can you help with the pro and con list? Thank you ~

To all my dear Cruise Critic friends, it is with enormous saddness that I tell you that my best friend, dear and loving husband lost his battle with his illness.

Morey passed away very quietly, in his sleep at 6:05 am, today, Thursday, April 11th.

My heart will be heavily burdened for a very long time. I adored this man with my very being and the burden that he bore of pain and confusion is now over and he can rest in peace.

It is very rare in life that you meet someone who is pure of soul........Morey was one of those people.....He NEVER had an unkind word to say of anyone and never met anyone that he didn't like. He had many friends with 3 wonderful children and 6 grandchildren. He lived a full and rich life. He traveled the world and we shared many wonderful experiences together.

Thank you for your kind words and prayers.

Your friend,

Roz

Oh dear Roz - I was absolutely dreading this news .... I too was thinking about you all day yesterday, maybe like Nancy, SS Cruisers we just .... well knew. I can't explain it.

You were truly blessed with such an honourable man in Mr Morey and I cannot imagine the pain you now must have in your heart. Mr Morey will be safe and at peace now in the arms of the angels.

Roz, I send you our sincerest condolences to you and your family and like Nancy, I am only sorry I cannot deliver these to you in person, but rest assured dear lady, they are sent with much love across that great big ocean in between us.

I am thinking too of Brenda and Horton - those guys will be a bit confused and especially Miss B will miss her dad so much. But they will I'm sure give you much comfort in the days ahead.

Take care dear lady and we are all here for you. God bless.

Roz,

I can't express the sadness I feel right now. But as everyone has said, Morey is at peace now. I can't explain it but somehow I knew just before I got onto this site that I would be reading this sad news. Stay strong and know that you have a cyber family thinking about you.
