NCL Mastercard FAQ

I have had my NCL credit card for some time about as long as this thread and a warning for those who have one yesterday I received a email letting me know my pass code was changed on the account. Well I hadn't been on online or changed the code, so to be sure this wasn't a scammer I called the number on the back of the card and sure enough the pass code was changed and when they asked me to sign in my account I couldn't . After some time and verifying who I was a new sign in and pass code was done . When I checked my account I did not see any charges that were not mine, however my points were gone. THE ROTTEN RAT STOLE MY POINTS !!! . This person stole and transferred a bunch of points to my account then added my points to his and booked a flight and hotel . I was on the phone forever yesterday and they are investigating this newest scam so be aware of your points, hopefully I get mine back I almost had enough for a free 7 night cruise. I am so upset

I am so sorry this happened to you. I have had my NCL MasterCard for about 18 months and I am on my THIRD card due to hacking. They were spoofing my home phone number ( now changed) and calling BOA to report foreign travel, then to get duplicate cards sent to an address in Brooklyn. BOA has been very helpful so far. I'm hoping the third one is safe. Even with careful password management they find a way in!

Meta upgrade- how does that work? I have enough charges on my card right now to add up to the 30,000 points but when will those points be on the card? Would I be able to use those points to upgrade on my cruise on July 7th?

They show as pending until your billing cycle. I don't know if you have to call a certain number of days before the cruise to use them. I'm sure someone else will be able to answer that part of your question.

At the end of your cycle they will be earned. Then call. You can call up to 3 days before.

But.....upgrade is based on availability.

Your cabin category must be available equally.

We have a NCL cruise coming up in Oct. I just seen our Final Payment is July 8th. I have the Mastercard for the purpose of reducing the price of the cruise and not to upgrade on the cabin. Can I make final payment and apply the amount of the points towards the price of the cruise before we go? What is the best way to get the most out of the points earned on MC?

Thanks!

You may not have gotten the card to obtain upgrades but indeed that is the best way to get the most value out of points earned on the MC. You can get $100 OBC in exchange for 10000 points but you can't use that onboard credit for gratuities or in Casino and you lose any leftover cash at the end of the cruise. You can trade points for cash but unless you have at least 25,000 points to trade in for $250 you will only receive a lower percentage of cash. But if you save at least 30,000 points you can trade those 30,000 points to upgrade an entire cabin from Ocean View to balcony. You could also use those points just to upgrade from an inner room to an ocean view but the price difference between an inner room and an ocean view is usually not very high so you're better off using cash to do that then use your points to make the jump from Oceanview to balcony. For instance our cruise next month currently costs $749 per person for an ocean-view guarantee but the balconies cost $1399 per person for a balcony guarantee. I just now accumulated 30000 points and I could trade those points for $300 cash. If I pay cash to upgrade our Inner Room to a balcony it will cost me an additional $750 per person or $1,500 total. Or I could pay cash to upgrade from an inner room to an ocean view for an additional $100 per person and then trade those 30000 points for an upgrade to a balcony. This would give my 30000 points a $1300 value rather than a $300 value.

Thanks! I have about 23,000 points. When we booked the cruise I believe the OV was the same as the balcony. Once we pay for the cruise, that I believe we owe $2000. on, that would equal about 4000 points?? So, possibly, by Sept. more then a month before we cruise, I'll have about 25,000 points. Can I ask for a credit of $250. back to my MC?

Can you upgrade from a balcony to a minisuite or a spa balcony or a suite?

No, I don't believe so. Balcony is the highest upgrade. With 30,000 points you can upgrade from inside to ocean view or from ocean view to balcony. For 60,000 points you can upgrade from inside to balcony

Your $2,000 balance would equal 6,000 points. It's 3 times the points for charges on NCL products. That's if the charge shows from NCL. The reason I say that is that when I book with a TA, there's a certain amount of the total cost that is charged by the TA and I get 1 point per dollar spent, and then the rest of the fare (which is most of it) shows the charge from NCL and on that portion it's triple points. If you book directly with NCL, then you'd get 3x the point on the entire fare.

I can't answer your question about a credit to your MC as I haven't looked into that--I got the care solely to earn points for upgrades. I usually cruise solo so I have to pay 200% of the fare if I book a double occupancy cabin.

Hmm. Maybe I should pay off our December cruise with the NCL card. I think we still owe $2500 (booked direct w/NCL) so that should be about 7,500 points, plus the 15,000 we got for opening the account. So if we just charged another $7500 over the next year we'd have enough for a balcony upgrade from OV.

Last year, when I got the card, we used it for $125 in OBC, which we put toward spa passes, but now my boyfriend got one, and I'm thinking the upgrade might be a better goal to save towards.

I believe you can get a $250 statement credit for 25000 rewards points. You were really lucky to get a balcony for the same price as Ocean View. I've seen the inner rooms about the same price but I've never seen a balcony same price as Ocean View! Someone asked about upgrading too mini-suite or Suite. The only time I've ever done that was before they started this new bid system. They used to just send you an e-mail offering an upgrade for a certain price but there was no bidding involved.

That's even better news, 3 x's the points! My TA, from what I seen, goes right through NCL. On my cc the deposit showed up from NCL. That isn't fair to you if you don't get the entire amount you pay for the cruise as triple points!

I could really see your point with using the points for the upgrade. Since NCL has some cabins on some ships for solo traveler's, how well are those cabins priced for a single? I guess they don't have solo cabins yet for a balcony:confused:.

I think for the most part that's pretty standard with TAs. That said, I've used only a few, as until about 5 cruises ago I typically booked directly with the cruise line. Since using a TA, in every case a small portion of the total fare was shown as charged by the TA and the rest by NCL. One of them explained it to me, but TBH I didn't read the whole explanation. LOL. The charge is from NCL for the majority of it and perks I get from the TA more than make up for the lose of a few hundred points! :D But, I agree, it's not fair!!

No solo balconies yet. I understand there are a couple RCCL ships with solo balconies. I've seen video of them and they look great. I've never sailed with them and I always buy FCCs on NCL, so maybe someday I end up in one of those balconies for solos. The pricing on NCL's studios fluctuates back and forth between being a good deal and at times being more than you'd pay if booked a double-occupancy inside! On my Epic cruise last year--10-night Canary Islands--I paid $904 and that included port charges and taxes. That was a fantastic deal! For the one this fall on the Epic (Western Med for 7 nights) I'm paying almost $400 more for just the base fare. So, like all other cabins on the ship, the fare bounces around. I've seen posts where people paid as low as $499 for a studio. I'd like to get one of those deals!:D
