burtshell Posted August 27, 2004 Author #28 Share Posted August 27, 2004 i posted this list on a few cruise line message boards. this message board(princess) had so far the best responses. we are glad that many people are really enjoying reading the list i drew up. i'm burt and my wife is shelley=burtshell we are both retired new york city school teachers who are now for the last 6 years are living in florida. there was a study made in the 1940's by two famous scientists, dr.olson and a dr. johnson that laughter can cure many ills. for those of you who do not know what an 'egg cream" is i feel very sorry for you. you must have had a miserable childhood growing up in an area outside of new york city. you missed out on the dodgers, charlotte ruses, black and whites and knishes. i would like to add a few more nobody asked me but........ alaskan cruises are way overblown. how could anybody stay on the deck for 8+ hours watching the ship go thru the panama canal. on a tahiti cruise we met a couple whom we haven't seen for 20 years. on the same tahiti cruise we met the owner of a fish restaurant that is 3 miles from our house in boynton beach, florida none of the combative threads on these message boards faze us since we taught in new york city for over 30 years. why do people get so argumentative re:clothing on a cruise. burtshell

DoniaG Posted August 27, 2004 #32 Share Posted August 27, 2004 51. Having 2 TV's in a 300 SF minisuite is very bizarre. Who's goes on a cruise to watch TV? 52. Who cares what movies they're showing in the theatre or on your TV? I can go to the movies at home!
Northender Posted August 27, 2004 #33 Share Posted August 27, 2004 I was so busy this morning, I was thinking of drinking my lunch. This posting made my day. Now I can catch my breath and wait until later this afternoon to start drinking. burtshell - one of the best in a long time. And the answers were fantastic. Steve, ol buddy, ol pal, I am going to get to use this line this weekend, I just know it. Company coming that say things like, I wish I could go on trips like you guys, you are so lucky, glad that someone in the family is doing so well. (Of course, if they would get there as*es out of bed, they too could take a trip or two, but I am trying to become less cynical. So Steve, I think your line will work out great when the situation arises and IT WILL. :) Some people live two lives theirs and yours. - by srphnx, August 2004

Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted August 27, 2004 #35 Share Posted August 27, 2004
11-i love to read comments written by the fashion police, especially the one where they told a cruiser that sneakers are not allowed on embarkation night Some people live two lives theirs and yours. 23-where can i get an "egg cream" on the ship from a chicken with a cow for a friend
Definitely gets my vote for funniest post of the day!
17-a sad sight is when you see the luggage lined up in the hall the night before disembarkation Unless you are on a back to back
And the vote for truest! Nliedel Posted August 27, 2004 #36 Share Posted August 27, 2004 1-i do not care who the cruise director is Unless they feel compelled to include me in everything.. I will join when I am ready ; ) 2-i do not care who the captain of the ship is As long as he has never run anything aground. 4-i do not like "baked alaska" It is an odd dessert... Cheesecake and Tiramisu please. 5-there should be escalators on ships And people to escort you on them when you are too drunk to get back to your cabin by yourself. 6-why do people eat the scrambled prepared eggs at the buffet instead of the ready to order eggs. Because some people, my husband included, are pre-programmed to order scrambled eggs. 7-going to your dinning room table the 1st night is like going on a "blind date" And just like a blind date a medical "out" is always a good thing to have.. "pardon me, I would stay for the entire dinner but I am pregnant and apparently in labor, would you excuse us please?" (OK you cannot be that pregnant on a ship, but if they are really drunk maybe they will buy it). 8-the two most important people on the ship will be your waiter and cabin steward. True!!! 11-i love to read comments written by the fashion police, especially the one where they told a cruiser that sneakers are not allowed on embarkation night I dress for the code baby... you wanna hang your excess whatever out.. well that is just fuel for conversation with my husband.. Someone dressing in a ripped shirt and painted pants etc on formal nights is at risk for being complained about in public (ie the cc board) so be warned!!! Other than that, while I would love to see people dressed up I cannot control it. 12-the escargot appetizer is great Yep it is... if you won't eat snails then more for me!! 13-desserts look better than they taste And are frequently not worth the calories. 14-european cruises are more exciting than caribbean ones EVERY cruise is exciting!!! It could be going to Podunk, Florida and I would be thrilled. 15-we always eat breakfast and lunch in the buffet area Breakfast in the Dining room... none of the aforementioned "powdered eggs" (shudder) 16-my wife does not gain any weight on cruises Your wife should therefore be keelhauled!!!!! or made to walk the plank.. or she is adjusting the scale when you aren't looking ;) 17-a sad sight is when you see the luggage lined up in the hall the night before disembarkation Depressing 21-the first thing we do on embarkation day is to go to the library then the buffet Dining room to order the wine for the week and check on my seating. 22-it took 3 cruises to find out who the "friends of bill w" were I thought it was a group of people who just happened to be on every cruise I was on and it sounded like they were having a really good time. I actually found out what they were here.. I was so embarassed. 23-where can i get an "egg cream" on the ship I never did get the "egg cream" thing... Sort of like the soda vs. pop debate. 24-why is ice coffee not as popular as ice tea Because cruise ship coffee, by in large, is nasty!! 25-why do kilts take the place of a tuxedo and not a pair of short pants Hmmm men in kilts... hmmm.... I can live with that.. 26-why do the women, not the men, always select the seating in the theater Because men don't care where they sit.. 29-i never asked anyone what they paid for their cruise Me either... I have also never been asked.. You just don't discuss something like that. 30-the funniest line i heard on a cruise was on a day where the ship was rocking and rolling, someone yelled out "will the honeymoon couples cut it out" Oh wow.. That is hysterical
stoneharborlady Posted August 27, 2004 #37 Share Posted August 27, 2004 You really have me going now!! First the egg cream (chocolate of course) and now the charlotte rusche. They came in a little round cardboard thingy. I remember spending weekends at the beach at Far Rockaway, and having a potato knish for lunch on the boardwalk. Been living in Pennsylvania for the last 40 years, and havent heard anyone speak of these goodies in that many years. What fun! THANK YOU!
Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted August 27, 2004 #38 Share Posted August 27, 2004 6-why do people eat the scrambled prepared eggs at the buffet instead of the ready to order eggs. Because some people are husbands. It's us wives who want to take the time to go to the dining room and see hot, fresh food being served by someone other than ourselves. bruce-r Posted August 28, 2004 #43 Share Posted August 28, 2004 As a matter of fact, wearing a kilt on a cruise is pretty good way to meet other passengers, especially the ladies.
