Fuel surcharge?

I booked a cruise for 1 Mar 08 and just recently got my invoice from my TA. It seems that Princess has tacked on an additional $35 pp ($5 a day) to our bill for a fuel surcharge. Anyone else get this?

Yes. It was announced a couple of weeks ago. This is on all Carnival Corporation ships, including Princess. Other cruiselines are following suit. The surcharge is $5/day/pp for a maximum of $70/pp. The only surprise is that they didn't do it sooner.

Here's the blurbage that was typed on my invoice near the bottom:

 

11/18/2007 - Princess Cruises issued a fax stating a fuel surcharge of $5.00 per person per day has been added to your reservation. Please note a total of $70.00 has been added to your final payment.

Yes, my TA sent me a notice about this several weeks ago. Princess also has it on their website.

We heard about it while on our Diamond cruise which ended this past Sunday. There was some grumbling around but frankly I am surprised it took this long before the cruiselines increased the price. Our car gasoline keeps going up and up and so does the airfares so why not cruiselines.

early in 2008....saw $80 Canadian.

sorry, but that is not quite accurate.....it is only the case for Canadians that pay in Canadian $s....not the case for Canadian who pay in US $s.

Feel its fine for Princess to charge higher fuel taxes to Canadians if they pay in their own countries currencies?

Because Princess has to keep more beer on the ship for us, and that extra weight burns more fuel.
