getting cash in the casino

I've heard you can used your sign and sail pass to get cash in the casino.

Has anyone here done it? It just gets added to your onboard charges?

Just want to make sure it isn't posted as a cash advance.....those interest

charges will kill you.....

They are right - just comes on seapass as a normal purchase would. However, they told my husband the only way he could get cash was to sit at a table and play. He sat, got his cash, played a hand, and left.

I've always gotten my cash advances on RC ships at the cashier cage. What if you don't play the tables but like the slots. DW has gotten cash for this.

There was one cruiseline we were on that did the cash advance at the table but it wasn't RC. It may have been Princess.

You will have to get it at a table. The cashiers do not give cash for table games and are hesitant to give a large amount for slots. They are trying to crack down on people getting cash for the points, especially on RCCL credit cards.

Also, make sure you get money on one of the first couple days. I waited until the next to last day and they really questioned me because I had not been taking out "large" amounts throughout the week.

Other than that, yes you can get cash and no it will not show up as a cash advance.

It may depend on the ship but in Nov. I definately got cash from the casino cashier on Legend of the Seas. I wanted to use up the large OBC we had for this cruise since we didn't take any of the ship's excursions. We only did private ones so I used the OBC for my casino stake and won a little to boot.

I got a cash advance from the cashier's cage on Legend of the Seas only a few weeks ago. There was no interrogation and I could have, had I wanted to, put the cash in my pocket and walked back through the casino and right out the door. As it was I put $20 in a slot machine and walked out with $90 in addition to the money I had put on my seapass card ( FWIW: it was the only time I won during the entire week).:)

No problems in January 07 on FOS. We were able to get out $2000 per day. We took $10K out over the week and deposited that in our bank when we got home (not all at once) and promptly sent it to our credit card company when the bill came. It gave us 10K points on our Amex Rewards.

You're always telling that story.......reasons like that is what is going to ruin it for the rest of us ,who occasionally take a hundred bucks out....they just might change their policy..

This is a good point. Many years ago I used to work for American Express Platinum and we had a policy of advancing emergency funds but it would be transacted as a charge, not a cash advance. The abuse became so rampant that it attracted the eye of Federal regulators and this service was terminated. Bottom line: be discreet about this kind of interest-free float.

We have not had problems getting money from the cashier & we have never been questioned about where we were going to gamble away the money. We usually get between $100 & $200, play the slots for about 45 minutes andd then back to whatever else we wanted to do with xtra cash in our pockets,

Have done it many times. Just don't make it obvious if you're not going to spend it in the casino.

Sorry, forgot to answer part of it. Yes, it goes on your seapass - no CA charges.

And if you pay your bill with a RCCL VISA you get double points!

In two cruises, out of two so far, I have gotten cash at the cashier cage each time. On Voyager and Majesty. I was told at the Customer Service desk after I missed the deadline to put tips on my charge.

So does this mean that I really don't need to bring cash with me? I can use a CC to set up the sea pass acct and then go to the casino to get real money for gambling and shore purchases? Would love not to have to carry a lot of cash if we don't have to. Also, will the casino cashier exchange travelers checks?

Exactly!!!! Someone always has to take advantage of the situation and ruin it for others.

Guest Relations will usually exchange traveller's cheques. There's usually an ATM onboard as well.

Sure will. I do it in the casino all the time on my cruises instead of going to purser's desk where there is usually a line up of people.

On the Radiance last month we received a cash advance in the casino. We were asked if we wanted to play slots or at the table. When my husband said table, we were directed to the black jack table and told to get the advance there. I immediately said to the cashier I wanted $100 to lose at the slots, so she gave me $100 (I signed for it at the cashier) and he got the other $1,900 at the table (he signed for it there and was given chips).

There is nothing to prevent you from cashing in later.

We actually use the cash to play in the casino but ended up breaking even and taking the cash home at the end of the cruise.

There were no extra fees, it was just charged to our credit card as a RCCL expense.

I guess I will find out in nine weeks as we will be on Radiance. Even if this is the case, it isn't a problem for me as I always play some Black Jack. It is easy to play for one shoe or say 15 minutes and if you play correctly you shouldn't lose too much and maybe you will win a bit.
