Average age on Celebrity?

Age demographics depend on the length of the cruise. The longer the cruise...the older the passenger.

I'd agree with that. Destination and time of year too. I've been on Caribbean cruises where I've felt quite old (I'm 44) and a Panama Canal cruise that had me feeling like a young buck again:)

On our 13-day repositioning/Alaska cruise in May 2007 the average age was much higher than usual. You could count the children on one hand - literally! Our adult kids (early 20's) were with us and they loved it, so we've quit worrying about it!

I'm thinking about sailing on a Celebrity Cruise and wondering what is the average age on this Cruise Line. I'm 45ys.old.

Thank for your response.

Time of cruise, destination and length play a big part in all cruiseline's demographics.

45 is a great age on any line!!!

!

That's true. On our November 2007 cruise to Panama etc. for 11 days, for the first time in 6 cruises, I felt that there were a lot of folks much older than I. (I'm 62, and now that I recall, I felt quite young and spry in comparison!)

As a point of reference I was in my fifties for all of our Celebrity Cruises.

Alaskan Cruise on Infinity - we were older than most

Baltic Cruise on Constellation - we were very typical, but there were more people younger than us than older than us

Mexican Riviera Cruise on Mercury - We were much younger than most people on that cruise where typical passenger was between 75 and 90

Caribbean Cruises on Century, Constellation, Millennium - With the exception of Constellation most of the passengers were between 75 and 90.

On Constellation, which was during Thanksgiving week, passengers were much younger than our other Caribbean Cruises but older than the Alaskan and Baltic ones. However, the passengers on our Holland America Cruise the following Thanksgiving were much younger.than Celebrity's passengers.

Your cruise will be what you make of it - go and have fun. Older people can be as much or more fun than younger ones!

As others said, it very much depends on length of cruise, time of year, and location. Have been on spring break cruises in Carribbean where the crowd probably averaged 30-50 with some kids (although never an extraordinary amount in my 20+ Celebrity experience) to probably average of 60 on a 10 day Mexican west coast cruise in November. We had fun on all - have been cruising for 20+ years and my now 22 year old son has been on most. Celebrity is never a party ship, but there are always cruisers of virtually every age (except children in some cases):)

Yes, I must admit I've wondered this as my hubby and I will to a TA on Solstice in April being 28 and 30. I'm wondering how many other people our age we might see.. Clearly no one school-aged, as school is in session..

Hi,:) not necessarily....you probably won't have many kids

but there are many different school options these days....

lots of folks home-school their kids, while others take them

out even while its in session.

LOL.. just realized my statement might have inferred that school-aged kids were my age.. not so much..

I didn't think that:) I was thinking you were wondering about

school aged kids.....from elementary/middle school up to High School.

I saw you posted you are 28 and 30.;)

I am also 45. Just got off the Millennium a 14 nights Alaska cruise. The average age was 60+. Granted, on cruises over 7 nights the average age on any cruise ship regardless of the cruise line in question goes up. However, on this ship it was not the average age that was the problem but the total lack of energy. (People can be old without being OLD) I have been on cruises with the exact same age demographic that was much more full of energy and far less stuffy. The bars and casino were always dead. The CD Dru and his staff were great, they tried hard to get things going (Liars club was a blast!) but you can’t get blood out of a turnip.

A couple of examples: For the Newlywed not so Newlywed game, the "Just Married" couple had been married 33 years! They are friends of ours and when they said they were going to put their name into the bucket to be drawn for the game, I even said ”I bet you will be the couple married the fewest number of years” I sure got that one right! When the always asked question in this game came up “Where is the strangest place you have made Whoopee”? The answers other than the one our friends gave (which was rather interesting) were of the likes of “In a back seat of a car when we were dating” and “up stairs in my mother’s house when we were dating” Ummm, both of these couples had been married 40+ years and that was the best they could come up with…..! Are you getting the idea …?

Then there was the variety show from the Italian guy via Australia and Vegas, (A claim to fame, he once performed with Wink Martindale, yes that Wink, of TV game show fame.) Lets just say it was a one man version of a mix of a bad day of Lawrence Welk meets a off the strip Vegas show. You know the kind, the show where it is in the middle of the day and they gave away free tickets to entice you to go to a timeshare presentation. I will cut to the chase and say the audience went wild (I am NOT Kidding) when he did Volare. (Sing with me…. Volare, oh oh, cantare, oh oh oh oh) Of course there was also Amore. (Again, sing with me….. When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie That's Amore…….) However, it is when he asked if anyone had ever heard of Van Halen and the audience went graveyard quiet except for the handful of us under 50 and then preceded to play Zorba the Greek in the style of Van Halen I started to look for a pistol to shoot myself with but could not find one, so I vowed to go to church ever Sunday and make sure I make it to Heaven because I now knew what Hades was.

(Just for the record, I like Dean, and Frank, have several CD’s of both, and Dean and Sammy will always be the gold standard for cool, but I also like Van Halen too!)

So in my opinion, if great service is what you seek and do not care about the energy level of your fellow passengers on the ship; Or, if talking about medical conditions and grandkids (rotten teeth, dentures and how poorly they fit seemed to be fav topic) is your conversation topic of choice and you like bland food,Celebrity is a great choice. (Other then the food served in the Olympic, which was wonderful, the food in the Dining Room was truly awful) Otherwise, you may want to look at Princess or Carnival, or even RCCL if you must.

I am not a cheerleader for ANY cruise line; I always call it like I see it. I pick itinerary first, then ship/cruise line then price. I find cruse line cheerleaders where 'Their' cruise line of choice can do no wrong and all the other lines stink, just inane and silly.

Rouge Wave,

I think you just restated the point ( in a rather unflattering way) that we mentioned earlier..longer cruises draw an older crowd. (And since you went when the families were back in school, add more seniors. ) I have found too that Alaska cruises/tours ( as well as the Panama Canal) draw an older crowd. Destination too determines age group.

Try Celebrity, or any line, in the summer or Christmas/ Easter break and you'll see a big difference. On the other hand, if you go on Carnival for 2 weeks in the fall to the Med, you'll have a totally different experience as compared to their "fun ships" pr.

We enjoy Celebrity's food and service much more than the two lines you mentioned. But food is a subjective discussion. X is consistently ranked by Berlitz and others as the best of the Mainstream. And we certainly have had enough to choose from as to not go hungry.

Entertainment has always been a weakness on X. Ranked lower than most. We skip the shows we know we wouldn't be interested in. Find other things to do during those evenings. ;) Tastes differ there too.

We can honestly say there wasn't a cruise we haven't enjoyed...no matter the line or age of the passengers. We have spent time with some really neat, well traveled seniors who were more entertaining than someone half their age.

Sorry you had such terrible time.

I had a great time, loved the cruise. Boring fellow pax and lousy food in the dining room and lame enteraiment does not a cruise make. The weather was sunny, blue skies. The ports a blast, Alaska is wonderful. The excursions were top notch. I’d do it again (CC, 8th deck) even with Millennium's serious flaws because I cruise for the ports and the view from my balcony. (However, I would dine more often in the Olympic, the food there was great!) The crew did a super job. I don’t blame the Room Steward for a poorly maintained ship nor the Dining Room waiter for bland food.

Regarding Panama Canal, I did 15 nights through the Canal right at a year ago on Princess. In fact, several people from that cruise were on this cruise and had the same overall take on Millennium and the poor food quality and the lack of energy of the passengers as I did. On the Panama Canal cruise if anything, the average age was a bit older and there were more walkers and scooters and yet the overall feel of the ship had much more energy, the bars stayed open late, the Casino was busy and much more of a festive friendly atmosphere. The ship was in far better condition and the food in the Dining Room was much much better as well. I have stated longer cruise do bring a older demographic and also as I said, there is old and then there is OLD. One can be old in years and not old in how one lives life.

You projected far more into what I said than you should have. No need to fell sorry because you thought I had a bad cruise, yet to have such. However, that does not mean I see the world through rose coloured glasses either. I am sorry you take issue with my “unflattering” take on what Celebrity offered. It's just the facts as I see them Mam'm. COLOR]

I expect to get what I paid for and in this case it was far from it. Celebrity likes to say Millennium is a 5 star ship and she in her current state is 4 star at best. I do not think I should need to 'look" for something else to eat. I expect the food I order to be good. That there is a variety of bad food is not a plus. I am understanding about a kitchen having a bad night, but we had 10 bad nights in a row. Celebrity brags about the quality of its food and when a table of 8 all order a Avocado Caesar salad and only one of the 8 can find any Avocado (just two tiny tiny pieces) that is a problem. When the lobster is half of a split smallish tail that is so tough and rubbery most of it gets left on the plate by almost everyone at the table, that is a problem. When steak is ordered med-rare by 5 people at the table and all come out very well done, that is a problem. When BRITISH folks are saying the food is poor and bland, well that speaks clearly that there is a problem! I am not saying there were not some bright spots the Roasted tomato garlic soup was very good. But over all the food was bland at best and I heard such a point of view stated by many.

You can believe me or not, it matters not to me. Folks that want an unbiased point of view so they can decide how to spend their money may want to take my point of view into account. Cheerleaders will always see with blind eyes no matter how well illuminated the facts are.

By the way, if you don't like my point of view here on this thread you may not want to read my review which is backed up with Photos....

Also, I have 60 cruise days in just the last two years alone, I do have a valid reference point to which I speak from.
