$3.95 Service Charge for Room Service starting

Recommended Posts

If this is all about wasted food, or labor costs, as some suggest, I suppose the next step is to charge $12.95 for that second entree, or part there-of, that many folks request. Perhaps an additional charge of $10.95 for that extra lobster, or $5.95 for that extra desert. Perhaps an additional charge........Gee they could also reduce labor if the waiters didn't have to run for all that extra "stuff".

You know for those of us that don't order extra, why do we need to subsidize (in our cruise cost) those that do. Do I have that part of the argument right too?

Is that kind of like.....Why should I pay taxes to support a school department when I don't have any kids?....

Homerun....out of the park!

I think I'll write a note off to RCI saying I want my cruise fare kept low therefore I expect them to start charging folks for all the extra food ordered in the dining room. It should be one entree per person, one desert, and so on. If folks want that extra service, let them pay for it! Keep my fare low and reduce labor and waste (raising my pom-poms).

While your at it could you mention that they should charge $15 for each child in the kid zone per day! If people want babysitting service on a cruise why should I pay for it. Keep my fare low!!!!

BINGO:D

Also for those that think it's all about Free Loading...Move on if you don't like it.....blah blah blah.

I can cruise without the combined discounts, for Free as a Royal Casino VIP Player! I have turned down many of them free cruise's ( probably turned more down than some have cruised) , only becuase I will only cruise for 7 nights or longer). I am finally taking my 1st discounted Royal Vip cruise in 2 weeks on an 11 night Jewel Cruise! I have never opted for the Free 4-5 night ones and had many many offers!

I am not a person IF IT'S FREE IT'S FOR ME! I am a person that looks for discounts ( sorry for the ones who don't want to or have too, but I find that hard to beleive, that there are many pax that don't look for Sr. Diamond, combining etc. DISCOUNTS), I feel I earned a status with RC (understanding the policy can change at anytime), and with the other changes coming down the pike ( not neccesarily a $3.95 charge for RS). it's time to MOVE ON!:)

It might get there. There are some people in this world who want everything for next to nothing. This always make it hard for reasonable people. Some wake up thinking I am entitled, be it to homes they can't afford (US housing market) or vacation outside of their budget (why do I have to tip). How many of us can go into a restaurant, where people earn decent wages and order even one lobsters or a prime rib for every member of their family, 7 nights in a row. Someone is going to pay for the excess. The cruise lines are not a charity organization. It's going to be the staff doing more for less, while been stiffed by the some of the vacationers, paying extra for for little things, or the price of the trip reflects the true cost of the vacation on every sailing. No more $699 balcony special...darn:D I for one is happy while it lasted, grateful I could have done it, because change is coming!

Actually, if they can add on a few bucks to the price of the cruise and still sell the product they will do it whether the charge for room service is in place or not. Basic psychology? Nope, it is basic business.

I agree!, it is basic Business to make the biggest profit you can by setting you're prices the highest that you're customers and the current market will

accept,.......

However in this one move, (Room service late night surcharge), I don't think profit is the motive, but rather to cut down on food waste due to rising food cost from they're supplers. Yes it is still a Buisiness decision, but not one motivated from a profit standpoint, but rather one aimed at stopping loss instead.

Thay're Not purposely "Ripping" you, Thay're Protecting the Business.

You can say whatever you like about RCI, I am not cheerleading for them. Thay have thay're Good Points and Bad Points, Just Like Everybody Else.

(I've liked all my Cruises, RCI, Carnival, & Disney.)

Some of RCI's recent moves and decisions might be just an attemt to get all thay can from us or not, - I just don't beleive this one single issue was one of them.

Anyway,......I'm Done on this Subject, - I wish you the best cruise on whatever Cruise line you decide to Sail With.

I am already switching from NCL because of the surcharges. I am in a Villa Suite on the Jewel and expect the best service, but I don't feel that the food is any better in the "specialty" restaurants. The service doesn't match up either. If there wasn't a large cancelation fee for my suite I might already have done so. When I pay for something I expect value, not to be charged again, and again, and again, and again....ad naseum

If this trend continues I will just cruise less often but on a higher caliber line.

The purpose of vacation is relaxation. :)

Not so sure I buy into the theory it is to cut down on food waste. People that order room service at that hour are going to order it anyway....as most I think are feeling pretty good at that hour!!! And just may order more then they normally would since they are paying for it anyway. :D

On our 8 day on the Independence we were given an extra app, entree and desert everyday, and never once requested it. Our waiter was just falling all over us to make us happy and thought we wanted more of everything... That being said, I don't think it cost him a noticable amount of time to make that effort. However, I tend to agree that the extra food and kitchen cost probably adds up and we would have been happy to never have gotten the extras.

I am just sad that they dont add something worth eating to their late night menu at the same time they add the charge. a good business decision would be to expand the menu while adding the charge. it would reduce a lot of complaints.

That is a great point. And a charge for the Adventure Ocean program would be fine too. All these families with kids that RCI is marketing to could be a bigger gold mine than they ever expected!:D

Could you imagine the money maker if they charged a Daily Fee for their Sesame Waterparks on the Freedom class Ships? $10.00 for a Daily wristband sounds like a Deal to me!

Way less than what you pay for that on Land!:D

Yeah, and maybe they should charge for the ice skating show and those wonderful night time shows that we've seen a million times (same acts). Hey, they can probably get more $$$ for Orchestra seats and a bit less for us that can't afford it, so we'll be sitting in the mezzanine............LOL

Or better yet, guess we could always choose to watch them on TV for Free......or maybe at a reduced price...........LOL

I think the whole idea of charging for RS is ridiculous!!! And we don't order RS, especially at that hour but I still think it's ridiculous. And I certainly don't think that by them charging is going to lower any of our fares........that's just crazy thinking.

Excuse me but in a business it´s only the bottom line that counts and if your can raise your profit by expanding your income or by lowering your cost doesn´t matter, it´s always a profit move.

All of this is amusing but the people on the ship already paid for the cruise.

My idea would be to charge people to go ashore. I mean docking those ships cost a lot of money. They need to pay the people to put out and operate the gangway, they need a port agent, ..... I could go on and on with that list. In addition people going ashore don´t spend money on the ship. I might not even be interested in that certain port of call, so why should I have to pay for it. Some people might even be cheap enough to not book ship excursions. There needs to be a fee to use the gangway.

Better yet, how about a refund of the port charge for those of us that don't get off the ship. Why should we have to pay for something if we don't use it? I'd rather be at sea anyway.

Mr. Pete,

I like that idea!!!! I'd save some money every time we dock at OSJ and now even Dominica........being there once was enough for us!!! Being in OSJ tons of times is enough for us too!

Everyone is talking about changes that are coming and I'm afraid they are not going to be changes for the good........but no one is really saying what changes they are. Don't know if they know something more than the rest of us or not.

I was wondering what the difference was (if there is any) between an E1 or E2 balcony stateroom on deck 8? Also, how is the view from the balcony on these, are they obstructed at all? We would prefer to have a decent view, and be able to look down and see water and not a lifeboat or something. Thanks for any help!

I think you posted your question on the wrong thread!

The pillows are made out of hundred dollar bills and there are no lifeboats on that Ship!

RC is trying to keep their fares low, so now are eliminating somethings and adding others!:D
