Sail away rituals

We are newbies wondering what you do when the ship leaves (embarkation) port? Bottle of champagne, drink of the day? Quiet moment on your balcony?

Thanks so much for your advice, cruise critic is the best place for everything about cruises!

On the balcony

DOD and a fine cigar on back of Lido watching the city get smaller and smaller. Ports that come to mind, Long Beach CA, Galveston, San Diego

Even though we have a balcony cabin, we always go to the pool deck for sail-away, grab a drink with an umbrella and join in the fun.

I always like to be out on an open deck waving at those not fortunate enough to be joining us. I think this dates back to my early crusies when we had streamers and hundreds came to wave the ship off.

We always like to be on a high deck and as close to the front as possible, love the sound of the ships horn at sailaway, especially if there are others in port and they have a competition to see who is the loudest :D

It still happens, minus the streamers. In some cities, the port area has parks, and restaurants, and bars lining the shoreline, where you can watch the ships sail away. Everybody waves to each other, with some people shouting back and forth.

We always go to the pool deck for the sailaway party.....sometimes it have drink, sometimes without....I always enjoy the view of the city as the ship pulls away...

One of my favorite sail-a-ways was on Freedom of the Seas. You can go out on the very front of the ship (where Jack and Rose stood) and see the water smoothly pass underneath you. If I'm not mistaken, it was on deck #4.

My cigar, My cocktail and My better half. Not in that order.:D

Myself, and however many silly fools I can connive into it, will be on the foredeck (or the Observation Deck) of the Westerdam with bubble paddles making a cloud of bubbles.

If we can't throw streamers or confetti, we can at least put something into the air!:p

DH and I will be on the pool deck with a drink in hand (maybe a mojito) as we listen to the live music and watch as we sail by El Morro out of San Juan at night. LOVE IT!

DoD on our balcony (when we have one)... think I really want to try being on the deck for the sail away party this time, but no probably will still be out on our balcony.

Definitely drinks on deck or on balcony

1st cruise-Sail away from our friend's balcony.

2nd cruise- Sail away from our balcony drinking champagne and waving to the cameras--and completely went insane when my mum saw us on the webcam. She started crying and it made me sad because I wish my parents would get over their fear of boats and join us.

upcoming 3rd cruise-Probably the same as 2nd cruise. We have the suite next door to our last. :)

BUY OUR CHEERS CARD!!!!! We cruise out Saturday (1/31/2015) on the CCL Sunshine it will be our 20th!!!!! Greatest thing CCL has come up with!!!

We like the deck above the lido with the roof open to the pool, we get some of the excitement of the lido, but fewer obstructions for sail away pictures.

sailing from Baltimore (Pride) we love being up on the Sports Deck as we go under the Key Bridge - it always looks soooo close! When the horn sounds from up there you feel it through your very being :eek: ... it's the best!

I watch the ship push off from the dock as it sets sail.

I can see me being on the Lido deck for the sailaway party, drink in hand, waving like a loon :D :0 (first cruise)

I like to watch Castle Island go by as we head out of Boston Harbor!

One of my favorite places to sail out of was San Francisco. We love the Caribbean cruises, but Ft. Lauderdale doesn't compare to the Bay and under the Golden Gate bridge. We were all out on deck taking pictures.
