Do you think I could make this flight?

Perhaps. Typically ship docks by 6:00 am The wild card is when the ship clears customs. Since so many ships dock, you might experience delays at airport also. I would feel very stressed if I took a flight before 11:30 AM. I would also suggest you carry off your luggage if your flight is early.

Good luck.

We did early walk off and were at the airport and through security before 9:30. We had an 11:30 flight and were just fine.

As long as there are no snafus with customs you should be fine, but have a backup plan and be prepared to pay change fees if your ship doesn't clear on time.

This is possible, but be ready for things to go wrong.

We walked off the Epic in March and were at the airport by 8:30 or so. A few things to note about this -- we were in the Haven, so we were escorted past all the people waiting in line to walk off (and it was long). We also hired a car service for just us, so there was no messing around waiting for a shared shuttle. We hit no traffic going to Miami, which may have just been lucky.

We were all TSA Pre-Checked, so we didn't have to wait in the regular security line, so that saved us some time as well (our flight was at 12:30).

I would consider booking an 11:00 flight, but I would be a bit nervous doing so. You can do it, but have some idea of a back-up plan just in case. You will need to be up early to get in line to get off the ship and I would definitely hire a private car.

While this isn't the topic, we will be sailing out of Ft. Lauderdale in January and was wondering the name and contact information of your car service. We prefer to hire a private car/van to and from the airport to the pier.

Thanks.

You are about one hour away from Ft Lauderdale airport without traffic. If you are coming in on a weekday, you will be in rush hour(s) traffic.

If you are arriving on a weekend with the other thousands of cruise passengers from Ft Lauderdale port, the backup for check in and security can delay getting to your gate.

I would book a flight for later then 11 AM.

Hey people the OP is asking about getting from POM to Fort Lauderdale an d not MIA. I would say your time frame is very risky, book a afternoon flight.

Sorry -- I didn't make that clear. We did go to FLL from POM with no issues and were there by 8:30 or so.

Regarding car service, if you visit the Florida home ports board, you will see tons of suggestions for car service. I will not recommend the car service we used this year because while they were on time, the owner/driver was not very professional. We use QLS last year and were very happy with them.

We walked ourselves off and made it to FLL in time for a 1030 flight. It is possible, but you have to decide what level of risk you are willing to assume. There is any number of factors that can possibly occur that will make it difficult to be there on time to catch your flight.

An 11am flight at FLL is definitely risky as ideally, you wanna arrive at FLL a lil before 10am to be safe. FLL airport is around 45 mins from Port of Miami although taxis are plentiful. It's doable if you leave Port by 9am or before but you are definitely pushing it a bit. Like others said, prepare for things to not go your way.

There are too many things that can delay you arriving into FLL in time to make that flight. Arriving Miami and flying from FLL earliest I would ever recommend is a 130pm flight. If you miss your original flight the airline is under ZERO obligation to honor that ticket and you could wind up paying for a full fare one-way ticket home, which is certainly more expensive than booking a later flight in the first place would be.

actually im not going to risk it - if it was mia i would probably do itbut since fll is further away, im afraid of missing and then getting stuck to pay for the next flight...

thanks for all your responses.

Leaving Getaway from Miami and getting to the airport (FLL) by 9am-10:30am??? (flight is at 11am) or cutting it close?

Miami airport, unless you hit some snag you would be fine, Fort L you will be pushing it. WE usually try to follow the rule: do not book a flight leaving before noon. NO, there is no set rule, but that is a good guideline. Have we booked an earlier flight? Yes, but I am more comfortable allowing a little extra time. If you want to carry all your own luggage off or you are part of a VIP early debarkation it is different.

the flights to toronto are either really early (like 7am and 8am - which is impossible), or super late which if I was going to do that, might as well stay a few extra days (but of course DW doesnt want that either).

Ok - how about making a 12:20 flight?

Better- However if you want express luggage service, you might not be eligible that early at another airport. But not really a big deal if you do not mind getting your own luggage. I would also suggest you take a cab or private car service.

Have you consider flying from Buffalo to FLL? It's usually a lot cheaper than flying from Toronto and timing might be better
