How does everyone like the Star Princess What class is it in? We cruised the Golden and didn't really liked the set up. We cruised the Crown and loved it. How will we like the Star? We're also booked the Regal and the Ruby, which is the sister ship to the Crown. Hope it's not bad news!:(

Star Princess was the third of the original Grand-class ships, following Grand Princess and Golden Princess.

However there were a couple tweaks to Star's design, most notably not having the kids/teens room and the Lotus Spa right next to each other.

Star Princess also did not have the same refit that Golden did, moving the Casino to Deck 7 and adding Crown Grill and Window Suite cabins to Deck 6. There is a Crown Grill on Deck 7 of Star.

If among the things you loved about Crown Princess was the easier access to Skywalker's (not having to walk the ramp up to the 'shopping cart hande'), the larger midship Wheelhouse Bar with the Salty Dog pub menu, the Adagio lounge, and especially all the aft elevators going to all floors--well those features are missing on Star as they were for you on Golden. But Star does have the Vista Lounge rather than the clunky Club Fusion from the newer ships as the second showroom.

The Star is classified as a Grand Class ship and is a sister ship to the Grand and Golden. It has the "shopping cart" appearance with the disco hung over the stern. It has an additional pax deck added to increase its capacity. It was launched in 2002. The Star is scheduled for drydock on December 3 this year. It will be interesting to see if it undergoes the same revitalization as the similar Caribbean.

You have Star confused with Caribbean Princess. And actually Star has a few fewer cabins than Grand or Golden as it did not have the Window Suites added, nor the additional suites at the aft of Sun Deck that Golden has.

We very much enjoyed the Star on our trip to Alaska. There is a great covered deck at the bow of the ship that was perfect for our rainy day in glacier bay. Also, the star has a covered pool, which is perfect for cooler climates but I'm not sure how that would work out in warmer weather. Overall, I would have no issue going on the star again. We too loved the Crown, so I don't think you will be disappointed.

All this is correct, plus Star has a thermal suite, unlike Golden and Grand. But still, Star us more similar to Golden than any other ship. I consider that a good thing, but the OP didn't like Golden and we don't know why -- so can't really address any concerns OP has.

We're on the Star December 19th this year for the 15 Day Hawaiian Holiday. Where does it do the dry dock? Might have to find out what they are doing? We have only done the Regal and Royal on Princess, loved them both.

I think the Star is drydock from Dec 3 to 17 of this in Victoria BC.

I don't know where the dry dock is but I do know it is going into dry dock November 9 because we were booked on that cruise and it was cancelled as they had rescheduled it earlier than planned.

Hi,

I cruised aboard the Star Princess in January 2017 and enjoyed the ship. As noted above, it originally was very similar to the Golden Princess. However, there are now differences due to various refurbishments of both ships.

It looks like the Star Princess dry dock is scheduled for early December 2017 in Victoria (near Vancouver). According to the Princess website, the Star Princess does a three-night cruise from Los Angeles to Vancouver from November 29 - December 2, 2017. Also, the ship does a return cruise from Vancouver to Los Angeles from December 16 - 19, 2017.

Star is nothing at all like Regal or Royal. We sailed Star 15 days SF/Hawaii and 10 days SF/Mexico. Both were excellent cruises.

I just checked the Princess website & the Star is sailing a 5-day roundtrip LA on 11/9/17.

This unofficial but generally accurate website for Princess drydocks shows the ship in Victoria for 13 days from 12/3 to 12/15.

In the Cruise Atlas the original schedule--which did briefly open for bookings--was:

Oct 8-18: California Coastal R/T Vancouver

Oct 18-Nov 1 Gap in schedule for Drydock

Nov 1-4 California Coastal Vancouver to Los Angeles

Nov 4-19 Hawaii R/T Los Angeles

Nov 19-Dec 4 Hawaii R/T Los Angeles

Dec 4-19 Hawaii R/T Los Angeles

Dec 19-Jan 3 Hawaii R/T Los Angeles

Schedule was subsequently revised to:

Oct 8-18 California Coastal R/T Vancouver

Oct 18-25 Wine Country Coastal Vancouver to Los Angeles

Oct 25 Hawaii R/T Los Angeles

Nov 9-14 Cabo Getaway R/T Los Angeles

Nov 14-29 Hawaii R/T Los Angeles

Nov 29-Dec 2 Los Angeles to Vancouver (no intermediate port calls)

Dec 2-16 Gap in schedule for Drydock

Dec 16-19 Vancouver to Los Angeles (no intermediate port calls)

Dec 19-Jan 3 Hawaii R/T Los Angeles

So those who booked the original sailings between Nov 1 and Dec 19 found themselves cancelled.

We were on a 15 day Hawaiian cruise in March, 2017. While it was our first time on the Star, it was our 21st cruise with Princess so we've been on a lot of the fleet. We had a wonderful cruise, the ship was in great shape, and we loved Skywalker's with the fun walkway to get up there. It had great views over each port, and we spent more time up there than we have on any other ship. Although the Royal and Regal are my favorite ships I'd definitely book another cruise on the Star.
