Need swimsuit ideas

I have had my 2 swimsuits for well over 10 years, and I think it's about time for a new one. I haven't changed sizes, but I'm not as toned as I used to be, and the weight seems to have, uh, redistributed itself somewhat.

I just turned 55, so even though I wear a size 4-6, I don't want anything too young-ish looking. I am very, very flat on top (34AA) and not too curvy. I have a short torso and very long legs. I've always worn 2 pieces, but I'm thinking I may be wanting a one piece now.

I love love love the vintage look, but I need suggestions on where to go to get something cute, flattering, that will fit my flat chest, and not cost a fortune. I've been on 3 cruises and haven't once ventured into the pool or hot tub, and I don't swim, so function isn't too important. Ideas?

Modcloth is cheaper but they have some adorable vintage looks!

(what I love about modcloth is real buyers can upload photos of what they look like in the piece!)

http://www.modcloth.com/shop/swimwear

Love this stripey halter number http://www.modcloth.com/shop/onepiece-swimwear/lido-deck-lady-one-piece-swimsuit

This is a cute 2 piece but each piece has more coverage in that vintage look http://www.modcloth.com/shop/twopiece-swimwear/set-the-serene-swimsuit-top-in-pineapples

This gives me Gidget vibes ;-) http://www.modcloth.com/shop/twopiece-swimwear/fjord-your-information-two-piece-swimsuit

I love Tommy Bahama swimsuits - have a couple - if I were smaller chested, I'd LOVE a strapless (molded cups - but a neck strap is included!) http://www.tommybahama.com/en/Ikat-V-Front-Bandeau-One-Piece-Swimsuit/p/TSW54217P-199

Lands End always has a ton - I appreciate because they offer larger chested versions, lots of ideas for mixing & matching separates, as well as coverups, rash guards etc. I like the way this top can be adjusted to fit differently as needed http://www.landsend.com/products/womens-beach-living-adjustable-top/id_294717?sku_0=::HFX

I was actually looking at that red striped Modcloth suit; the halter may make the top fit better, but for someone who rarely wears a swimsuit, not sure I want to spend over $100. I don't have a pool, I never go to the beach; about the only time I wear a swimsuit is when I travel, and even then I don't always get to the hot tub.

I feel like swimsuit and bra manufacturers assume that most women are larger chested, and that flat-chested gals all get implants. It is far, far easier to get large size bras and such than it is really tiny sizes. Wish I could design and make my own, or have something made for me.

One of the ladies in my water exercise class found a swimsuit with ruffles like these. Hers is a one piece in jewel colors (she bought several). She is over 70 and on the slim side. Those swimsuits look great on her. I haven't seen her in while so I can't ask her where she bought them, but it was in Florida.

I'm a fan of Lands' End swimsuits myself. I'm not ready for a one piece, but am rather past my bikini days after multiple surgeries to treat cancer, and their tankinis are the perfect middle ground. The fact that they come in different lengths makes them that much better. I have a navy and white striped halter top style tank/swim top with navy bottoms that is my current retro-ish favorite. I have the opposite issue (I'm tall with a long torso), and after researching for weeks, they seemed to have the best selection. Good luck - finding a great swim suit is never easy!

OMG this is so far from the truth! As someone with a more than ample chest they may allow more fabric in the chest area of some suits they certainly don't have any support anywhere else in the suit to support the tissue that is supposed to fill out that fabric! Large chested ladies hate those suits too! Large chests don't naturally stand at attention like a porno! :eek:We need underwires and all over band support to keep those things somewhat upright!:D

I have had good luck with Freya swimwear in DD+ which is bra sized. If you are AA sized you don't have any need for support and literally can wear any little flimsy swimsuit without a need for support. Freya costs in the $70 USD for just the top but I buy inexpensive black bottoms from Target.

We are bathing suit twins, heh.

(Reading the first half of your post I was all set to recommend Freya, but you already knew! I do the same thing with Target bottoms, although I do have one Freya skirted bottom I like.)

And halter style tops just kill my neck, don't know how anyone stands it. I also don't know why more manufacturers don't make bra-styled tops with shoulder straps and underwires.

Where do you get your Freya? Near as I can tell it's not really stocked in stores in the states? I've bought through Amazon and HerRoom.

To the OP, if you're still around would you consider swim dresses? They are inexpensive (due to being imported, but fairly decent quality), flattering, and they run small (check sizes carefully, they are often sized for Asian frames and you may need to look at the measurements.)

These suits will often have photos of customers wearing them in their reviews.

I'll second the vote for Land's End Tankinni separates!

I love love love mine! I've had it for so long, that I honestly don't even know if they still carry the same exact style but the quality is EXCELLENT and it looks as good now as the day I bought it years ago ... I have other suits, but I always end up going back to it.

Of course, I can't chime in on the small bust issue ... I specifically bought mine because they offered styles for D and DD cup sizes.

Good Luck!

I love this suit. It's just what I would look for as well. I'm trying to finf Longitude brand suits which Marshall's and T.J.s used to carry. Sadly, I don't see it anymore.

I agree with the poster that recommended you check out Target. They have really really cute swimsuits for woman of all sizes. They have a lot of different styles and are very inexpensive. I love to wait till the end of the season and get them on sale. I've got several bottoms and tops at prices ranging from $4-$10 on sale. Check them out if you have one near you. Good luck finding what you want and need! Let us know when you do.:D
