Would you think this is rude?

so on our last cruise on the Valor on the final night of the cruise they have the Legends show. In the 4th row dead center a group of 4 people (2 adults and 2 teenagers) decided they thought it would be fair to take up half of the row by laying down a blanket over the seating to cover enough space for 8-9 others to sit. people would try to sit there and the group of 4 would give people dirty looks and say "cant you see these are taken" or "no you cant sit here these are reserved". I was sitting in the row behind them and kept debating to say something to these people but my wife forced me to put my foot in my mouth. The theater was packed and come show time no one was sitting in these seats they had "reserved" I even seen them turn down an elderly couple that had to of been in their 70's! finally about 2 mins after show time they had 2 more people sitting in their group...1 adult and a teen. Would anyone else have thought this was really rude? Would you have said something to the people? what if you were looking for a place to sit...would you have say there anyway? (I would have!). Just curious what everyone else would have done in this situation.

We've seen that happen too, despite the fact you are not supposed to save seats. My DH was incredibly po'd at the folks in front of us too, and got angrier every time they told someone the seats were taken... just as in your case, some older folks that really needed a seat.

He finally said something to one of the crew (after I held him back from confronting the passenger) and the crew member actually escorted some folks to those seats, enabling them to sit. No body else ever showed up for the folks who were saving the seats.

Anyway, yes, it was rude!!!

yes... very rude... and I think the best course of action in this situation is to contact one of the staff and make them aware of the issue, instead of confronting the rude pax directly.. clearly, they are not interested in what anyone else thinks or needs (turning away an elderly couple??? jeez... that's just more than rude, I'd say that's downright MEAN!).

On this one issue, I can't help by love how Disney handles it -- in parks especially... you are *required* (and will be made to, by a friendly, smiling cast member) move all the way to the left when entering a row of seats... no stopping to get the "prime" middle of a row.. and they make sure ALL the seats are taken, no ifs, ands or buts.. snooze and you STAND (or miss out all together)... if only all large auditoriums/theaters were so efficient! :)

Has anyone just sat down anyway? They are not allowed to save the seats so there really isn't much they could say... Just wondering.... I've done this at the pool when there was only a towel there and the people next to the chairs hadn't seen them and just say I'll get up if and when they come back... Only once have they come back. Around the pool it has stopped a lot since they are having you check out the pool towels and charging if you don't return them.. :)

The non-stop dumbing down of our society allows clowns like that to get away with garbage like that!

Same thing for pool chairs.

No need to confront, merely find any staff member, and if they give you the maybe, maybe not junk, ask for their supervisor.

The low life's use the excuse 'it's our cruise and we will do what we want'

Hey, it is your cruise too...Help them learn some manners.

That way, they get to take home something besides the soap, shampoo, ashtrays and anything else they probably steal...all because it is "their cruise and they will do what they want"

Yep, VERY rude, and yep, I've seen exactly that before. In fact, I DID confront the people trying to save the entire FRONT ROW, and informed them that they couldn't save a bunch of seats. I simply sat down where I wanted to in that row, and watched 'em steam. No Problem! Just before show time, several more showed up, and geee,,,what a shame,,,,there wasn't enough room for all of 'em. A few had to sit someplace else.....Pity wasn't it?

Glad to see its not just me who thought these folks were extremly rude. They even had their teenage son (looked to be 16-18) telling people that those were their seats...and he was the one giving people the dirty looks. I was baffled to say the least. I have seen people do that out at the pool as well. If no one is there and no personal belongings are there....ill move that towel to the floor and sit in that chair. I see all to often people doing the pool chair saving early in the mornings. Hardly anyone on Lido yet there will be like 10 chairs saved using towels.

Oh boy! A blanket laid over the seats to save them? YES, rude!

Rude...and TRASHY

Some people are better off staying home if they can't at least learn some basic manners and etiquette.

I know it's hard to confront idiots like the ones you described, but until someone starts confronting them, they'll keep doing things like this.

Oh I couldnt agree more. And I wouldnt have had any issue confronting these idiots...my job involves confronting people every day lol. My wife on the other hand was getting upset at me that I was about to get up and say something to these people. She felt like I was going to cause a scene and embarrass her or something lol

i would have told them that there is no seat saving, and to kindly remove their blackets and pillows.

Yes, very rude. Unfortunately today's society has turned out to be the "me, me, me" society, whether it's on vacation (yes, we witnessed a lot of this in Myrtle Beach last month), grocery stores, highways, malls, you name it. It's sad that many of the kids belonging these folks will grow up thinking this is acceptable behavior.

Short and sweet its a CD/ACD not doing their job, you will always have me , me, me, rude people on every cruise, some more then others. The only ship I have seen somebody checking for that kind of BS and stoped it was and is the CCL Pride. When Jamie and Kirk were the CD and ACD. They also stoped people from taking flash pictures. All the rest of the cruises we have been on its a go for it. Another policy that is not enforced by Carnival, but "they must do a better job", famous last words by JH. They have been trying to do a better job for 15 years.

On a Dream cruise two ladies got into a fight over saving seats in the front row, it was a shouting match...they met later in a hall and got into another argument...They were comfined to their rooms for the rest of the cruise....Dennis

On princess, they have the staff take you down to empty seats, and if they are saved they let the the people know the policy. One escorted us to some saved seats and told the lady, he didn't think her Pashima needed a seat of it's own. Of course, all through the show we were getting dirty looks, even though we did nothing wrong.

Another time, On princess it was early in the am and I wanted to go to to the hot tub, I was about to put my towel on the chair when a young lady came running at me that the chair was saved I asked her if she could read the sign, as I had forgotten my glass....no saving of deck chairs, she still didn't get it

I may have even gone so far as leaving our seats and moving up to that row to sit so those oler folks could have my seats. My wife would have been like yours though, holding me back, lol!

I have noticed when sailing on Carnival, poor etiquette by fellow passengers is practiced more so on this line than others. It seems it is better to put your foot in your mouth , rather than to confront. We are on vacation, we are all paying good money to relax and enjoy. Why make yourself miserable over others rudeness? You aren't going to change them anyway.
