Getting thrown off the ship?

Recommended Posts

Sounds like a bad start to a relationship, imho. [emoji53] If she tells him she is uncomfortable breaking the rules, and he does it anyway, it says a lot about him.

I'm sorry your friend is going thru this on what should be the enjoyable planning of a vacation.

I say, if he gets thrown off, not to let it ruin her trip. [emoji4] Let him know she is staying, and let him do what he feels he has to. Try not to worry about his choices.

Tell her I'm hoping the best for her.

But what happens if they throw her off, too? I have read where entire families have been booted for the bad behavior of one or two in their clan.

The reality is that, absent some new draconian enforcement, they won't deny him boarding or disembark him before sailing if they find his stash, unless he cops an attitude. Then all bets are off.

(I'm lurking on multiple lines' forums today and lots of people are going for the throat for no reason whatsoever. It was pretty obvious your post was sincere, people are WAY too excited to have a "gotcha" moment and score points against other people online. Sorry you were one of today's random victims.)

Thanks, no worries...one cannot help those who have nothing better to do. :)

Thanks for the responses, I am in agreement of this guy not being the best for my friend but if he does ruin her cruise in any way he will be history for sure :D. I spoke with her about my discoveries today and we kind of agreed it would be a good idea to give him the choice regardless of the policy:

1) Cruise with no smuggled booze

2) Don't bother showing up to port.

No one is thrown off for bringing alcohol on the ship. Keep in mind that the ship is often out to sea before the crew finishes having people come to claim their luggage -- how could people possibly be asked to leave? Plus, people who are thrown off the ship don't buy drinks and excursions, they don't gamble in the casino or visit the spa. The ship WANTS you to stay, even if you have broken a small rule.

I wouldn't care a hoot that he plans to bring alcohol, and his chances of getting it onboard are excellent; however, he needs to be prepared to say, "Okay, you found it. Enjoy it." and walk away without another word. People are sometimes thrown off for pitching a fit if they're caught.

Beyond this problem, I think the biggest concern is that she seems to be uncomfortable about his choices and is unwilling to talk to him about it -- sounds like he is ruling the relationship, and she feels somewhat inferior. Smuggle in alcohol, don't smuggle in alcohol -- so what? But the fact that she doesn't seem to feel like she can make her wishes known is a bad, bad sign.

So my question is, has anyone ever got thrown off a RC ship for Booze smuggling?

I don't think any of us can answer that question for certain, but many people have tried to bring their own booze onboard, and some get away with it, while others have the alcohol confiscated. I doubt they would disembark someone for that.

Now, if he got sloppy drunk and caused any kind of scene on the ship, and they found out he had been drinking alcohol he snuck on, that might do it.

People do get kicked off the ships from time to time - not in the middle of the ocean, but at the next port. But just having illicit alcohol is not likely to be the cause for being debarked. I heard it rumored that some people got kicked off our ship last week for being drunk and relieving themselves off the pier, next to the ship. Drunken behavior that is dangerous or reflects poorly on the company can get you put off, even if you've already left port.

If he does his research correctly there is less than a 5% chance of getting caught and even if he does there is zero chance of getting kicked off.

Enjoy and go for it, I wish him best of luck

I would tell her to do what she wants then deal with consequences if then. I have smuggled booze on many times and have never been caught. I have never seen a person being called to the naughty room. People are too busy vacationing to notice if a person is called down.

I thought the same thing. Smuggling alcohol may not be the only rule he wasn't too break.

A few years ago someone posted an angry thread, because they got disembarked with no refunds on embarkation day for smuggling cigarettes inside one of those fake cans that looked like shaving cream.

I don't understand, why would cigarettes be smuggled?

If you look at my past threads/posts they clearly show I am married and a Carnival cruiser at present with a Baltic cruise already done and dusted. If I wanted to cruise RCL my thread would be 'we want to sneak booze on RCL...how safe is it?'...Im not shy!

I asked for advice not random useless comments.

Nick and Karen thanks for the responses. Like myself my friend and her fella are UK citizens so Baltic cruises are very cheap as they often sail from these shores.

Sometimes people post some of the dumbest threads and make themselves look foolish....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yes, absolutely people are kicked off the ship -- but not JUST for bringing alcohol onboard.

Yes, that's pretty much what I said. It just seemed from your previous comment that you were suggesting they couldn't possible put someone off the ship after they were already out to sea. They most certainly could, and do, but it would be for more than just bringing alcohol aboard.

And I do think it's a valid warning that, if you get into any trouble related to drunkenness on the ship, having alcohol in your stateroom that you snuck aboard will certainly not endear you to the ship's officers and could put you over the line for getting kicked off. But just the alcohol itself, without any other incident, would likely result in no more than getting your alcohol taken away.

We have no problem creating a healthy bar tab onboard, or buying the convenience of the $$$ beverage package.

However, we do enjoy a post excursion cocktail on our balcony but not wanting to get dressed twice before dinner, just to run down to the bar.

We have used Rum Runners (do a google search) with success on RCCL,

but someone in my family used them on Carnival Liberty last summer and

had to go to the naughty room, where they opened his luggage and

discarded his booze. Unless someone is being belligerent about it he

is unlikely to be disembarked if they find it. :)
