I m looking at this cruise for Jan 7 2017 and can t seem to find any threads or reviews here. Perhaps new itinerary for O? Anyone take this, or similar,?Even other ships, etc.

Have been on 3 O cruises,so know ships and company etc. Always happy with them.

How about any of the ports,,,Loreto, Mazatlan,La Paz, Topolobampo? Many don t have port excursions listed on O site yet.Was interested in Copper Canyon rail tour.

Any help or info?

we did a similar cruise on Princess

I would check the ports of call forum for the port stops & things to do at each

La Paz has an amazing museum (well to us it was)

We did this cruise with Azamara several years ago. We loved the itinerary and would highly recommend it. HAL used to do this cruise (maybe still does) and I found lots of info on ports and excursions on their forum.

did look at you tube of Copper Canyon train ride, but too long for me.Would love going there, but hate train ride back and forth. My DH will do it.Wish they would have it as 2 day trip.

Rachel, I remember your posts from other sites. If I m right, you re a Dr.So we d have a lot to talk about as I m a retired RN and DH is also Dr. Are you worried about Zika?Figure I ll just use spray and take my chances.Have it down here in FL,from travelers, but not in mosquitos,,,,YET.

Still researching this cruise, had to cancel my last 2 due to family illnesses. So sort of leary, may look into cancel for any reason ins.Tired of losing deposits.

Looked at other cruise ships for this itinerary, like Azamara,Crystal, etc.but most are 14 days,or expensive for what you get. This seems like good choice.Plus price seems fair and time right for us.

So did we.. good trip but long train ride to Copper Canyon. Would do it again,

Can I ask you a few questions, how long did train take?how long at canyon, see aerial tram in video,,did you take it or available?Did you review it anywhere?

My DH wants to do this, too long for me plus hate trains and heights.

Talked to Oceania, they still don t have this down on website for port exc.

Put a hold, but may cancel if not inc.in port stop, as see no other reason to go to that port.

Said they d have exc. listed in 1 mo,seems odd to have to make cruise choice without all info.Have been on O 3 times, but this is new itinerary,it seems.Have to sept 8 to cancel and get deposit back.

It was a few years ago. Holland America. We left early (it was dark), and returned late(it was dark). Don't remember a tram. About 2 hours at C.C., including lunch. Train and bus rides must have been at least 3 hours each way.

Yes, I am a gynecological surgeon, specializing in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. Look forward to meeting you for sure. My son's mother in law, who is going to be in our group, is a retired L&D nurse (that is how we met, when our kids who are now married were only 5 years old).

Not worried about Zika. Will use insect repellent if mosquitos are an issue, but I have been all over Mexico probably in excess of 20 visits, and I don't think I have ever gotten a mosquito bite there.

  • 1 month later...

I booked a Baja cruise for Jan.7, 2017 with the sole reason of one excursion, the Copper Canyon train. I was assured at this time, althought NOT LISTED under shore exc.area, that it WAS offered. Have tried on numerous occations after 180 day supposed publishing date, not there.Have called MANY times to O and my TA also. Well, last nite my TA called to say finally listed,so early this AM, TRIED to book...of course,,,said sold out ,closed. Called O AGAIN and told would put on wait list,,,WHAT???? Not acceptable, told agent and O this was the REASON we booked cruise, if not resolved will have to cancel before penalty starts.

Very upset with how O has handled this.TA did her best ,it seems . O agent even tried to shift blame to HER,,said ,,,why didn't agent book it last nite for you...hey, she DID call and who knew it would be Unavailable next AM??

Any further ideas?

Posted this above,,and also on roll call section.

The Copper Canyon exc. was reason I booked and now, after a few hrs.it seems,,has SOLD OUT...No way.

May cancel cruise, if waitlist, not activated or put on before penaly period.

Poor customer relations,,,by O agents.

Have another cruise for next yr.with them, and may reconsider, due to this.

Hope O management reads these posts.Have expressed my feeling s to O agents and my TA.

Ok....take your energy and apply them to research. Find the port and look up taxi or transportqtion options to the train. Contact the railroad its self.....ask if you can get seats yourself for the date? Ask the train people their suggestion for getting from port to rail road. O may have a bus and it got filled... Be creative, dont get frustrated get creative... start your own group and get a driver/guide. Dont beat a dead horse.... If not in the port check adjcent cities the economy in mexico is in the toilet...people will flock to a gringo with $$$$$$ trust me on this People will drive 100 miles to pick you up..... Go get em

Ask to be put on the wait list and also go on your roll call and try to get other people to sign up for that shorex and ask to be put on a wait list.

we were able to add another van to an ATW16 excursion because it was popular but they didn't know if there would be enough interest to add a 3rd van. They did!

The problem with doing any cruise because of one port or one excursion is that cruises can offer surprises. Some you know about before the trip and some come up later. Ports are skipped or the time is changed. Sometimes it's weather, sometimes (as in Ketchikan) it's that another ship destroyed a dock a few days ago. Or the weather is fine but the waves are too high for tendering, etc.

Sounds like a private group onboard may be using this tour, which is why, when it showed up, it was immediately full.

Another thing to keep in mind is that excursion could be cancelled by O just before your cruise date. There have been several excursions cancelled for my upcoming cruise that leaves next week, one of which I had booked. At least you have plenty of time to find alternatives. My suggestion would be to: 1) find out if there is a private company that offers that tour; and 2) go to your roll call and see if anyone else is interested in joining you in the tour. My guess is that a private tour would cost less and have less people.

I am hoping that someone who has taken a cruise tour to the Copper Canyon will respond. For a tour that leaves before dawn and returns very late at night (relying on 2 buses and a 6 hour train ride), I don't see how a private tour for this particular place would be possible. Who would take chances on a tour that takes 17 hours under ideal conditions?

Sorry you were disappointed, Alexandra. I hope they will set up a second group.

A "cruise specialist:"sent email saying they were working with tour operator to get more space, and HOPE those on waitlist can be booked. Her name is Jennifer Pane,if you want to contact her also.Did send copy of this to my TA,since she is also TRYING to work with her rep.at O to resolve issue.

Odd thread was moved here, since it was issue with O in general about shore exc.probs.Not just THIS CRUISE.Others may be interested.

The brochure oddly has picture of train with cruise,,,plus hi lite of trip,,etc.

Sort of false advertising,or someone really messed up.

Just cannot imagine trying to book this privately,,,you may ended up stranded in Mexico with broken down bus.No way.

If not resolved by Sept 9, my penalty date, will cancel.

In the last hr.since I posted above.Called O and found out, waitlist cleared and DH got on this exc.

Glad to hear its been resolved. You may want to book it early now, or see if your name has cleared waitlist. Don t want more to be unhappy.

Think it pays to voice your opinions, post onsocial media, call repeatedly,etc..
