This sounds great! Was this something Carnival did or were you thinking about a different cruise line.

I know I've had it on other lines.

And I'm almost certain Carnival did way back, when we could even take guests on when we embarked.

They are very tight lipped. Had the same thing happen to me but only getting off the ship. Called me down to guest services at 7am, said I needed to get off the ship immediately and to follow one of the Carnival reps.

Took us off the ship handed my I.D. to somebody in the terminal, he looked at it, shook his head no and told us we could leave.

Once they called me nobody would say anything. They just saying go with the rep.

No apology, no breakfast, nothing.

I imagine my name matched somebody with a warrant or something but I'll never know.

Bill

Same thing happened to my father-in-law. His name is Bill, too.

Checking in for today's sailing on the Paradise. They looked at my passport, asked us to take a seat, and said they would escort us onto the ship. Any idea what is going on? Three cruisers and I have the most days with 28, so it's not a VIP thing. I'm obviously not upset, just mystified. I've tried asking several staff for more info, and no one is saying anything. Anyone experienced this or know the story?

Glad it worked out. No one in the terminal would have the information because they are not Carnival employees and aren't in the loop. They are just told what guests are flagged, not why.

Glad it was a non-event. If there was a real issue with you or your group, I doubt they would have escorted you onto the ship.

Yeah, I left this out of the OP for simplicity, but their original response was "Please have a seat in the red chairs* and we'll come talk to you in a few minutes."

*red chairs = u-shaped spot behind cordons, with zero other people there. My adrenaline shot through the roof, thinking someone had stolen my identity and used it for felony money laundering. (Like I said, deviation from the plan = IndyGirl panic mode.) The revision to "Just go have a seat [in the non Red Chairs of Doom section], and we'll escort you onto the ship." calmed me down as it made the mistaken felony charges less likely, but I was still anxious enough to post the question!

The only time we were escorted onto a ship was when I booked one of the two penthouse suites, also known as the Owner's Suites, on the Ecstasy. See link to pictures in my signature below. Glad to hear the mystery is solved. Have a great cruise!

Hey Jim,

Your link doesn't seem to work. Can you post an updated one so I can check out the penthouse suite?

The Owners Penthouse Suites are on Fantasy class ships and will not even show on most booking engines. If you google them you might be able to find some. We stayed n one on the Ecstasy, very large, over the top and on the top floor over the lobby area with blacked out windows that over look the main pool area from the living room and bedroom of the suite.

This is *so* me. Mind jumps to worst possible conclusion.

We were disembarking a Carnival ship years ago and were pulled aside after our last swipe of the S&S card. We sat there watching everyone else leave the ship until an officer came and escorted us to customs, no idea what was up and getting scared and pissed at the same time. Come to find out someone had entered my husbands passport number wrong and it came up as stolen. As soon as the lady saw his passport she realized the error and we were let go, but it was most uncomfortable for a while.

This one sure hits close to home... The morning of debarkation of our wedding cruise last November, someone from our group was called down in the morning. This person did have a warrant and was picked up. It wasn't the best way for us to conclude our wedding week.

Glad this wasn't the case in your experience, although it's a bummer that they didn't do anything or at least apologize when it wasn't you.

Thanks, Jimbo!

Not sure that I would ever want to stay in something that drew so much attention to me, to be honest. Appreciate the description!

Actually pretty cool rooms, you also had an actual key to open the door, wish we were cruising with others as we had no one to share it with.....

They don't even show on most deck plans...just a greyed-out space. (!)

And not every Fantasy-class ship has them, either.

I'm almost certain they're only available for booking by phone...and I wouldn't be surprised if the callsite employee wouldn't know what you were asking for when you called. :)

Among my (many) bucket-list cruising items is a stay in one of the OS's on a Fantasy-class boat. Unlike most suites on Carnival, it REALLY looks like it lives up to the hype.

Glad it all worked out, but I don't like them leaving it a mystery. I would have been absolutely freaking out. They could have given you some sort of explanation so you don't freak out.

I wasn't thrilled about that part either. But to be fair, I worked retail for a decade, so I totally understand what it's like dealing with a meltdown. I can see them not wanting to deal with one in the terminal. For the record, even if we hadn't been able to get into the suite until dinner time or whatever, I would not have pitched a fit. I'm just not that person; I would have dropped the carry ons in the Inside cabin and gone about our day. But they don't know me and didn't know that; I'm guessing they've seen and heard it all when it comes to this kind of thing, kwim?
